Sun Aug 7 202213:51Yermin Mercedes Optioned To Triple-A Sacramento
San Francisco Giants catcher/infielder Yermin Mercedes has been optioned to Triple-A Sacramento. Infielder Thairo Estrada was reinstated from the 7-day concussion injured list so Mercedes was sent down to make room. The 29-year-old Mercedes put together a .243/.338/.357 batting line to go along with one home run and eight RBI across 70 at-bats with the Giants. He could get recalled again at some point down the stretch.

Wed Jul 13 202200:56Yermin Mercedes Plates Four Tuesday
San Francisco Giants utility man Yermin Mercedes had a nice game at the plate in Tuesday's 13-0 win over the Diamondbacks. Mercedes went 3-for-4 with a single, a double, a two-run home run, four RBI, and a walk. The 29-year-old has had just 31 plate appearances with the Giants so far this season but has slashed an impressive .296/.387/.519 while seeing time at catcher, designated hitter, first base, and the outfield. It remains to be seen what Mercedes' role will be with the Giants and if he will earn enough playing time to garner fantasy attention, but his exciting stint with the White Sox last season makes him worth an add to fantasy managers' watch lists for now.

Sun Jul 3 202214:49Thairo Estrada To COVID Injured List, Yermin Mercedes Recalled
The San Francisco Giants placed second baseman Thairo Estrada (illness) on the COVID-19 injured list on Sunday. He is dealing with a sore throat and a headache, but he hasn't tested positive for COVID-19. To fill his roster spot, the team recalled Yermin Mercedes from Triple-A. Estrada has been a mainstay in the Giants' lineup this year. Over 70 games, he's slashed .256/.311/.386 with six home runs, 11 stolen bases, 31 RBI and 40 runs. Mercedes, meanwhile, was claimed off waivers by the Giants about two weeks back. He had a brief stint with the Giants, making two appearances, prior to being sent to Triple-A. This will be his second stint with the team and there's a good chance it's another short one.

Sun Jun 26 202213:41Yermin Mercedes Called Up, Brandon Crawford To Injured List
The San Francisco Giants have called up catcher/designated hitter Yermin Mercedes from Triple-A. In a corresponding move, shortstop Brandon Crawford (knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list, a move that is retroactive to June 25. Mercedes was claimed off waivers by the Giants a little over a week ago. He is known for being a lefty masher and we all know how the Giants enjoy their split-heavy bats. He is not in the starting lineup against Cincinnati Reds right-hander Tyler Mahle on Sunday. The team has Monday off, but we may see Mercedes in the starting lineup against Detroit Tigers southpaw Tarik Skubal on Tuesday. Crawford, meanwhile, suffered a left knee injury this past Tuesday and only played in one game this week after the injury.

Sat Jun 18 202218:09Yermin Mercedes Claimed By Giants
Designated hitter/catcher Yermin Mercedes was claimed off waivers by the San Francisco Giants on Saturday. Mercedes won rookie of the month in April of 2021, but hasn't been able to find that form since. In triple-A this season, Mercedes slashed .230/.376/.425 with four homers in 87 at-bats. The 29-year-old smashes left-handed pitching, and the Giants are known to use players in platoon roles, so there is a chance that he puts up some decent numbers. That being said, he will likely have very limited fantasy potential and should only be picked up in deep daily leagues where he can be put into and taken out of the lineup based on when he plays.

Sun Jun 12 202212:22Yermin Mercedes Designated For Assignment
The Chicago White Sox designated outfielder/designated hitter Yermin Mercedes for assignment on Sunday amid a flurry of roster moves. The team also placed left-hander Aaron Bummer (lat) on the 15-day injured list with a left lat strain, optioned right-hander Davis Martin to Triple-A Charlotte, recalled left-hander Tanner Banks from Charlotte and selected the contract of catcher Seby Zavala from Charlotte. Mercedes, an early season sensation last year, was hitting just .230/.376/.425 with four home runs, 13 RBI, 14 runs scored and five stolen bases in 25 games for the White Sox. If he's not picked up by another team, he could return to the White Sox and return to Charlotte.

Fri Mar 25 202218:41Yermin Mercedes To Miss Six To Eight Weeks
Chicago White Sox designated hitter Yermin Mercedes suffered a hamate fracture in his left hand and will undergo a CT scan on Monday, according to James Fegan of The Athletic. He will miss six to eight weeks with the ailment. Mercedes caught the league by storm at the beginning of last season, hitting .415 with a 1.113 OPS over his first 22 games. However, he cooled down drastically afterwards and was demoted in early July. The long-time minor leaguer finished with a .271/.328/.404 slash line in 68 games. The White Sox roster is loaded with talent, so even before the injury, it would've been difficult for manager Tony La Russa to give him consistent playing time. Fantasy managers shouldn't be drafting him in any format at this point.
