Sat Apr 2700:31Jake Burger Completes Full Workout Friday
Miami Marlins third baseman Jake Burger (oblique) completed a full on-field workout ahead of Friday's game versus the division-rival Washington Nationals, throwing across the diamond for the first time since suffering a strained left oblique. Burger still has to progress to batting practice on the machine, but it's encouraging to see he's improving in his recovery. The 28-year-old infielder was slashing .228/.281/.421 with three home runs, two doubles, 15 RBI, and eight runs scored over 64 plate appearances (16 games) before heading to the injured list, and he's tracking toward a minor-league rehab assignment in early May and a return to the Marlins sometime in the middle of May. In Burger's stead, Emmanuel Rivera has served as Miami's primary third baseman but isn't producing enough to warrant consideration for a roster spot in the vast majority of fantasy leagues.

Mon Apr 1512:01Jake Burger Going On Injured List
Miami Marlins third baseman Jake Burger (oblique) is heading to the injured list on Monday with a left-oblique injury. He compared the discomfort on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves to last year when he suffered a similar injury while with the Chicago White Sox, when he missed 10 days. The Marlins will call up infielder Otto Lopez, who was claimed off waivers from the San Francisco Giants on April 4. Lopez can play shortstop, second base and third base and last appeared in the big leagues in 2022. Hopefully for fantasy managers, the 28-year-old Burger only needs to miss the minimum 10 days on the IL. In his absence, Emmanuel Rivera is likely to see most of the starts at the hot corner for the Fish. In his first 16 games of 2024, Burger had three homers and 15 RBI despite hitting just .228 (13-for-57).UPDATE: Burger officially went on the IL with a left intercostal muscle strain.

Sun Apr 1416:16Jake Burger Leaves Sunday's Game With Oblique Injury
Miami Marlins third baseman Jake Burger left Sunday's game early after experiencing left oblique discomfort. The 28-year-old was replaced by Emmanuel Rivera after taking one at-bat. Burger will likely undergo further testing to determine the severity of the injury. Burger has been relatively productive to start the campaign with three home runs and 15 RBI, but his .228/.281/.421 slash line leaves a bit to be desired. Rivera and Vidal Brujan may see more reps if Burger misses time, but neither are interesting fantasy options.

Thu Apr 1100:48Jake Burger Up To MLB-High 15 RBI
Miami Marlins third baseman Jake Burger kept his foot on the gas during Wednesday's 5-3 win over the New York Yankees, cranking his second home run of the young season. Burger took Yankees right-hander Marcus Stroman yard to deep center to bring home Luis Arraez and Nick Fortes for a three-run shot as part of a four-run Miami fourth inning. Although Burger didn't hit well during spring training, he's up to a productive .260/.291/.480 triple-slash line with three taters and an MLB-high 15 RBI over 50 at-bats to this point. The righty-hitting infielder faces two left-handers and an underperforming Atlanta Braves rotation during a three-game weekend set with the division rivals starting on Friday, but all three of Burger's homers have come against right-handed pitching this season.

Thu Apr 421:26Jake Burger's Two Homers Not Enough In Loss
Miami Marlins third baseman Jake Burger blasted two solo home runs on Thursday, but it wasn't enough as his squad fell 8-5 to the St. Louis Cardinals to remain winless. Burger led off the fourth inning with a 421-foot homer to deep left center to knot the game at 1-1 before going back-to-back with Josh Bell and belting another long ball during a three-run Miami fifth frame that got right-hander Lance Lynn out of the contest. After a 9-for-46 cold spell during spring training, the 27-year-old St. Louis native is enjoying a hot start to the regular season with a .355/.400/.581 triple-slash line, two big flies, 10 RBI, and six runs scored over his first 31 at-bats. Now hitting .310 with 11 homers, 38 RBI, and 33 runs scored in 61 career games for the Fish, Burger is quickly developing into one of fantasy's better four-category contributors at third base.

Mon Apr 109:32Jake Burger Continues Hot Start To The Season
After a horrible spring training, Miami Marlins third basemanJake Burger is scorching to start the season. He is slashing .438/.444/.500 with six RBI and three runs scored while striking out only twice over 16 at-bats in 2024. Burger is looking to improve on his hot hitting from the end of the 2023 season with the Marlins (slashed .295/.343/.547 across 26 games in September), and he is looking primed for a career-best season in the majors. Burger is worth starting in all fantasy leagues against the Cardinals' weakened starting rotation for the upcoming week.

Tue Mar 500:59Jake Burger Off To Slow Spring Offensively
Miami Marlins third baseman Jake Burger is hitting just 2-for-13 with an RBI in early Grapefruit League play. The 27-year-old burst onto the fantasy scene last season with the White Sox and Marlins, slashing .250/.309/.518 with 34 home runs, 74 runs scored, and 80 RBI in 540 plate appearances. Despite his slow start this spring, Burger should have an opportunity to provide power to fantasy teams once again while benefitting from a full season in an established Marlins lineup.

Wed Sep 20 202321:09Jake Burger Removed With Injury
Miami Marlins third baseman Jake Burger (quad) was removed early from Wednesday's game against the New York Mets due to right quad tightness. While he should be considered day-to-day, it is something to watch, as leg injuries can be tricky and Burger has been a nice fantasy contributor since being traded to the Marlins. The 27-year-old has hit .310/.366/.524 with eight home runs over 44 games for Miami. Stay tuned to see if the team provides any updates and what they may be.

Sat Aug 19 202311:22Jake Burger Continues Red-Hot Start In Miami
Miami Marlins third baseman Jake Burger went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Friday's 11-3 blowout win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 27-year-old slammed a fifth-inning three-run shot as part of a five-homer attack by Miami in this one. In a limited sample size, Burger has immediately provided the slugging the Marlins were in desperate need of at the trade deadline. Since joining the Fish, the hard-hitting infielder is slashing .333/.397/.526 with two bombs, five doubles, and 11 RBI in 63 plate appearances. Burger leads the National League with 11.4 barrels per PA, so fantasy managers should add him if they need power numbers.

Mon Aug 14 202314:15Jake Burger Walks It Off Against Yankees
Miami Marlins third baseman Jake Burger was the hero on Sunday in the team's 8-7 walk-off win against the visiting New York Yankees. Burger went 3-for-5 on the day with two RBI and two strikeouts, and he provided a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to complete a five-run comeback over New York. The Marlins acquired Burger from the Chicago White Sox at the trade deadline earlier this month to give them some more offensive firepower, and he's done just that. The 27-year-old slugger has gone 13-for-41 (.317) with a homer, four doubles, six RBI and four runs score in 11 games so far for the Fish. Overall, Burger is hitting just .227 (76-for-335) on the year but with 26 long balls, 58 RBI and 48 runs in 99 total games played.

Sat Aug 5 202314:01Jake Burger Not In The Starting Lineup Against Texas
Miami Marlins third baseman Jake Burger is not in the lineup on Saturday against the Texas Rangers. This looks to just be a day off for the hard-hitting 27-year-old. Burger is slashing .213/.282/.515 with 25 home runs, 52 RBI, and one stolen base over 305 at-bats on the year. He is still looking for his first home run as a member of the Marlins but that should come soon enough. Jon Berti is staring at the hot corner and batting sixth against Jon Gray and the Rangers.

Wed Aug 2 202314:57Josh Bell, Jake Burger Making Marlins Debuts Wednesday
Miami Marlins infielders Josh Bell and Jake Burger are both in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Philadelphia Phillies and right-hander Zack Wheeler. The Marlins acquired the former AL Central players prior to Tuesday's MLB trade deadline as Bell will man first base out of the three-hole while Burger gets the nod at third base and will hit sixth in his Marlins debut. Bell, 30, hasn't had his best season at the plate in 2023 as he's hitting just .233 with 11 home runs and a .701 OPS across 97 games on the season. Burger, however, has enjoyed a fruitful campaign, hitting just .214 but also launched 25 home runs alongside an .806 OPS across 88 appearances with the White Sox.

Tue Aug 1 202317:03Marlins Acquire Jake Burger From White Sox
The Miami Marlins acquired third baseman Jake Burger from the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday in exchange for pitching prospect Jake Eder, according to sources. The Marlins were in serious need of pop in their lineup, and Burger will accomplish that while likely taking over as the regular third baseman from Jean Segura. Burger has plenty of pop (25 home runs in 294 at-bats this year), but he has a weak .214 batting average (63-for-294) with 102 strikeouts and just 22 walks in 323 plate appearances in Chicago in 2023. Burger's fantasy value should see a slight boost in terms of the lineup around him, but he's also leaving more of a hitter-friendly park in Chicago for more of a pitcher-friendly one in Miami.

Fri Jul 28 202306:37Jake Burger Homers Twice On Thursday
Chicago White Sox second baseman Jake Burger had a big night in a 6-3 loss to the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday. Burger went 2-for-3 with two homers, a walk, and three RBI in the losing effort. The 27-year-old infielder was the only Chicago hitter who could get to Cleveland rookie right-hander Tanner Bibee in the loss, driving in all of his team's runs via the long ball. Burger is now slashing .217/.273/.528 with 24 homers, 42 runs, 51 RBI, and a steal. He will look to stay hot against Cleveland's Xzavion Curry on Friday.

Wed Jul 5 202316:37Jake Burger Out Of Lineup Against Blue Jays
Chicago White Sox third baseman Jake Burger will start on the bench on Wednesday as the team takes on the visiting Toronto Blue Jays. Zach Remillard will get the start at third base and bat eighth in the lineup against Blue Jays right-hander Jose Berrios. Burger has a useful 18 home runs on the year, but that's about where his fantasy contributions end. The 27-year-old right-handed hitter has gone 8-for-61 (.131) with two home runs, two doubles, two RBI and 25 strikeouts in 17 games played since June 16 to drop his season slash line to .217/.272/.513 in 68 games in his third big-league season. If Burger doesn't start picking it up soon, he could begin to lose more playing time in the second half of the season.

Thu Jun 8 202314:39Jake Burger Back In The Lineup Thursday
Chicago White Sox third baseman/designated hitter Jake Burger is back in the starting lineup for Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader with the New York Yankees and right-hander Luis Severino. Burger should be well rested for Thursday's contest as he last saw game action on Sunday when he hit a walk-off grand slam against the Detroit Tigers. The White Sox were off on Monday and had Wednesday night's game canceled due to poor air quality stemming from the Canadian wildfires. At any rate, Burger has flexed plenty of muscle this season with 12 home runs, seven doubles, and a triple, good for a massive .341 isolated power and a .923 OPS across 145 trips to the plate.

Sun Jun 4 202320:13Jake Burger Blasts Game-Winning Grand Slam
Chicago White Sox third baseman Jake Burger came up clutch for the team during Sunday's game against the Detroit Tigers. His first hit of the ballgame was a game-winning grand slam in the final frame. It marked his 12th home run of the season in 37 contests. The 27-year-old has seen his playing time dip recently as he didn't start in the previous three games leading up to Sunday. Gavin Sheets has been seeing more action lately, but Burger is doing a little better with the bat right now. Burger won't be a reliable fantasy option going forward unless he can secure an everyday spot in the lineup.

Tue May 23 202317:00Jake Burger In The Two-Hole Tuesday
Chicago White Sox third baseman Jake Burger is serving as the designated hitter and is batting second in the lineup on Tuesday against the Cleveland Guardians and left-hander Logan Allen. Meanwhile, outfielder Andrew Benintendi is being moved down to No. 6 in the batting order against the southpaw pitcher. Burger was taking groundballs at second base prior to Tuesday's game as well, and manager Pedro Grifol said the 27-year-old could be an option at the keystone moving forward. The White Sox are looking for ways to keep Burger in the starting lineup due to the fact he's hitting .271 (26-for-96) on the year with six doubles, a triple, 10 home runs and 23 RBI in 31 games. He'll be even more attractive as a low-cost DFS commodity on Tuesday out of the two-hole.

Sun May 14 202311:54Jake Burger Reinstated From IL On Sunday
Chicago White Sox infielder Jake Burger (oblique) was activated from the injured list ahead of Sunday's game against the Astros. The 27-year-old was on the 10-day IL because of a left oblique strain and had recently spent time in Charlotte on a minor-league rehab assignment. But Burger will be back in the lineup on Sunday and bat seventh versus Hunter Brown in their first career encounter. In a corresponding move, Chicago optioned catcher Carlos Perez to Charlotte.

Thu May 11 202312:27Jake Burger Cleared For Rehab Assignment
Chicago White Sox third baseman Jake Burger (oblique) has been swinging without issues and is headed to Triple-A Charlotte to begin a minor-league rehab assignment. He is hopeful of being activated from the 10-day injured list when he's eligible this Sunday. The 27-year-old is dealing with a mild left oblique strain, so he should be back in the big leagues soon, barring a setback. However, with Yoan Moncada (back) expected to rejoin the White Sox this weekend as well, Burger may not be in line for much playing time at the hot corner. The team has been using Hanser Alberto at third base recently with both Burger and Moncada on the injured list. Burger is hitting just .224 (15-for-67), but he does have five doubles, seven home runs and 14 RBI in just 23 games.
