Engel doesn't have a hit yet, but he wasn't much of a threat with the bat in 2022, batting .224 with two homers across 119 games. It's better to stay off of him in favor of a better offensive threat.

Grisham struggled to make contact regularly in his third year with the Friars in 2022, finishing with a .184/.284/.341 slash line, career-low .626 OPS, career-high 17 home runs, 53 RBI, 58 runs scored and seven stolen bases in 524 plate appearances over a career-high 152 games played. The 26-year-old was a liability at the plate, but he did show some signs of life in the postseason and also won his second Gold Glove award on defense. Needless to say, Grisham's fantasy value has dropped significantly heading into 2023, and there's a good chance he'll be benched this year if he doesn't improve.

The San Diego Padres have publicly downplayed the possibility of trading infielder Ha-Seong Kim or center fielder Trent Grisham this offseason in order to acquire more starting pitching. However, industry sources have indicated that the Padres are open to discussing either player -- Grisham, in particular. The Miami Marlins are a team that could make sense as a trade partner, and San Diego has expressed interest in right-hander Pablo Lopez. He's not eligible for free agency until after 2024. Yu Darvish, Blake Snell, Nick Martinez and Seth Lugo can all test free agency after 2023. Grisham's value plunged in 2022 after he hit .184, including .199 against fastballs. Kim showed improvement from his first MLB season, but he's always likely to be known as a glove-first player.

He should be held onto in all deep leagues and NL-only leagues, but in shallow leagues, he can be dropped for a hot bat on the waiver wire.
