Tue Jun 20 202314:39Matt Beaty Making First Start As A Royal Tuesday
Kansas City Royals first baseman/outfielder Matt Beaty is in the starting lineup for the first time as a member of the club on Tuesday night against right-hander Michael Lorenzen and the Detroit Tigers. Beaty had his contract purchased from Triple-A on Sunday and entered the game as a pinch-hitter, knocking a single in his lone trip to the plate. The lefty-swinging Beaty also appeared in four games for the Giants to begin the season after struggling mightily to the tune of a .093 average without a homer across 47 plate appearances with the Padres in 2022. Beaty has had decent success against right-handers in his career, posting a .736 OPS and 98 wRC+ against them across 543 trips to the plate. He'll be the designated hitter out of the six-hole Tuesday night in Detroit.

Beaty is now at the team's complex in Arizona, awaiting the next move. The 29-year-old has been on the shelf since May 7. Mon May 9 202209:24Matt Beaty Dealing With Shoulder Injury
San Diego Padres first baseman Matt Beaty (shoulder) was held out of Sunday's game against the Miami Marlins due to a shoulder injury. He first sustained the injury during Saturday's game while diving for a ball. Following Saturday's game, Padres manager Bob Melvin discussed Beaty, stating, "They're working on him right now, but it was obviously enough to where he had to come out of the game, so that's not a great sign." Beaty has seen a good amount of playing time in May, mostly due to the absence of Wil Myers (thumb). We should know whether a stint on the injured list is coming for him soon.

Mon Mar 28 202214:04Padres Acquire Matt Beaty From Dodgers
The San Diego Padres acquired first baseman/outfielder Matt Beaty from the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday in exchange for right-handed pitcher River Ryan. The Dodgers designated Beaty for assignment last week, and now he'll land in the same division with the Friars. The 28-year-old definitely need some more outfield help, but at best, the left-handed hitter could serve in a platoon in left field with Jurickson Profar in San Diego. In his third year for the Dodgers in 2021, Beaty hit .270/.363/.402 with seven home runs, 40 RBI and 35 runs scored in 234 plate appearances over a career-high 120 games. Consider Beaty a low-upside option for depth in NL-only leagues.

Wed Jul 21 202102:12Freeman, Braves spoil Darvish's return, beat Padres 2-1
ATLANTA (AP) — Freddie Freeman homered off Yu Darvish in the sixth inning, Touki Toussaint allowed one run and three hits in his season debut, and the Atlanta Braves beat the San Diego Padres 2-1 on Tuesday night. Toussaint, who missed the first 3½ months rehabbing a right shoulder strain, retired the first seven batters he faced before walking Victor Caratini in the third. He didn’t allow a hit until Manny Machado doubled with one out in the fourth. The Padres tied it 1-all in the fourth when Jake Cronenworth was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on Machado’s double and scored on Tommy Pham’s sacrifice fly. Freeman made it 2-1 by taking Darvish deep over the wall in left field with an opposite-field shot, his 22nd homer. Toussaint (1-0) walked two and struck out five in 6 2/3 innings. Darvish (7-4) was making his first start since July 8 after a stint on the injured list due to left hip inflammation. He allowed four hits and two runs with two walks and three strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.... [More]
Fri Jul 9 202101:29Rookie pitcher hits slam off Scherzer, Padres overtake Nats
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Rookie reliever Daniel Camarena hit a stunning grand slam off Washington ace Max Scherzer and the San Diego Padres overcame an eight-run deficit, finally beating the Nationals 9-8 Thursday night on Trent Grisham’s RBI single in the ninth inning. The Padres matched the biggest comeback in franchise history, helped by Fernando Tatis’ 28th home run and Grisham’s two-out hit. But it was Camarena’s blow that really jolted the crowd at Petco Park. Camarena, who went to San Diego’s Cathedral Catholic High, was called up earlier in the day for his second stint with the Padres. He replaced Yu Darvish starting the fourth inning and allowed Trea Turner’s second homer of the game, a two-run drive that gave the Nationals an 8-0 lead. With the Padres’ bullpen taxed in recent days, manager Jayce Tingler had Camarena bat for himself against the struggling Scherzer with the bases loaded and two outs in the fourth. The left-hander drove a 1-2 fastball into the right-field stands to send... [More]

Wed Jun 2 202102:33Yankees win on Frazier's homer with two outs in 11th
NEW YORK (AP) — Clint Frazier hit a game-ending, two-run homer with two outs in the 11th inning after making a game-saving catch in the eighth, and the slumping New York Yankees beat the rival Tampa Bay Rays 5-3 Tuesday night. The righty-hitting Frazier turned on a slider from right-hander Andrew Kittredge (5-1) and stood at the plate to admire the drive, capping a tight finish in which both teams came up short on potential rallies. One of those stalled efforts came in the eighth, when Frazier dove and needed every inch of his mitt to catch Joey Wendle’s soft-hit liner to strand two. New York ended a four-game slide and beat Tampa Bay in the Bronx for the second time in 11 tries since the start of last season. The AL East-leading Rays remained 4 1/2 games ahead of the Yankees with two games left in this four-game series. Thu May 13 202101:36Harvey cheered by fans, routed by Mets in Queens return
NEW YORK (AP) — Matt Harvey was greeted warmly by Mets fans in his return to Citi Field and harshly by New York’s hitters as the Mets beat the Baltimore Orioles 7-1 Wednesday. Harvey pitched against his former team for the first time and allowed Kevin Pillar’s two-run triple in a three-run second inning that carried the Mets to their seventh straight win. Wearing orange and black instead of blue and orange, Harvey (3-3) gave up a season-high seven runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings, and his ERA rose from 3.60 to 4.81 as the last-place Orioles lost for the fifth time in six games. Taijuan Walker (3-1) lowered his ERA to 2.20, allowing one run and four hits over seven innings as part of a five-hitter. Mon May 3 202103:13LEADING OFF: Luzardo hurt playing video game, Ohtani OK?
A look at what's happening around the majors today: ___ GAMER GONE Athletics left-hander Jesús Luzardo will be off the mound for a while. He might also be staying away from video games. Luzardo is out indefinitely after breaking the pinkie finger on his pitching hand when he thumped a table while playing a video game. The injury occurred before his start Saturday. An X-ray after a loss to Baltimore showed a hairline fracture and Luzardo was put on the 10-day injured list. Oakland manager Bob Melvin said he didn’t know how long Luzardo would be out. Luzardo wound up pitching three innings and allowed six runs, three of them earned. He is 1-3 with a 5.79 ERA in six starts this season. OHTANI’S TURN Shohei Ohtani is a question mark to make his scheduled start on the mound for the Angels when they face Tampa Bay ace Tyler Glasnow in Anaheim. Ohtani was hit on the right elbow by a pitch in the first inning of Sunday's 2-0 loss at Seattle. Los Angeles manager Joe Maddon said the elbow was sore... [More]
Mon May 3 202100:03Pete Alonso helps Mets top Phillies for wild 8-7 win
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Pete Alonso capped New York’s six-run eighth inning with a three-run double, and the Mets used a defensive meltdown by Philadelphia and a replay reversal to beat the Phillies 8-7 on Sunday night. Michael Conforto snapped a tie with a bases-loaded walk against José Alvarado, driving in Jose Peraza, and Alonso followed with a liner off David Hale that split the gap in right-center for an 8-4 lead. Philadelphia got a run back in the ninth on Roman Quinn’s RBI triple. After a Matt Joyce walk, Rhys Hoskins hit an opposite-field drive off Edwin Díaz that was initially ruled a tying three-run homer first base umpire Jose Navas. A replay review showed the ball hit the top railing of the fence on the out-of-town scoreboard in right, never clearing the wall itself. Hoskins was placed at second with a two-run double. Díaz then departed with an injury and Jeurys Familia struck out Bryce Harper on a high fastball, earning his first save. Didi Gregorius and Andrew McCutchen homered for... [More]
Sun May 2 202122:23Slam! Pollock 8 RBIs, Beaty 7 as Dodgers bop Brewers 16-4
MILWAUKEE (AP) — A.J. Pollock drove in eight runs and Matt Beaty knocked in seven, with both players hitting early grand slams in a startling power show that sent the Los Angeles Dodgers over the Milwaukee Brewers 16-4 on Sunday. Pollock homered twice and doubled while Beaty went 4 for 6 and scored three times. Their slams came against Alec Bettinger (0-1), who gave up 11 runs in his big league debut after never pitching above Double-A. This was the first time in franchise history that the Dodgers had two players with at least seven RBIs in the same game. The last time it happened for any major league team was on Aug. 22, 2007, when Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Ramon Vazquez each had seven RBIs for the Texas Rangers in a 30-3 blowout of Baltimore. The last time two Dodgers hit grand slams in the same game came when Adrian Beltre and Shawn Green did it in a 12-3 victory over the Marlins on May 21, 2000. Pollock’s eight RBIs matched the highest single-game total by any player in the history... [More]
