Sat Feb 1712:10Royals Acquire John Schreiber From Red Sox
The Kansas City Royals acquired right-handed reliever John Schreiber from the Boston Red Sox on Saturday in exchange for minor-league right-hander David Sandlin, according to sources. Schreiber, 29, missed almost two months in 2023 due to a shoulder strain and finished the year with a 3.86 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, one save, 25 walks and 53 strikeouts in 46 2/3 innings over 46 outings (two starts) in Boston. For a weak KC bullpen, he'll immediately become one of their better relievers and should work in high-leverage situations, making him an option in deep holds leagues while seeing an occasional save chance as well. Sandlin, 22, has some intriguing strikeout potential after fanning 88 hitters in 66 2/3 innings at Single-A and High-A in the Royals organization last year.

Wed Feb 1400:58Red Sox Willing To Listen To Offers For Chris Martin, John Schreiber
While the Boston Red Sox have been in trade talks for closer Kenley Jansen this off-season, they are also reportedly willing to listen to offers for setup men Chris Martin and John Schreiber. Martin had an excellent 2023 season but is due $9.5 million in 2024, so a potential trade would seemingly be for monetary reasons. Schreiber's salary is not as taxing and he will not be a free agent until after the 2026 season, so the impetus to trade him may be to potentially clear roster space. Both pitchers posted strong peripherals with notable holds numbers, so they could be fantasy-relevant in deeper saves-plus-holds leagues in 2024, regardless of what teams they play on.

Sat Feb 1012:07John Schreiber Arrives At Camp Early
Boston Red Sox right-hander John Schreiber (shoulder) has arrived to the team's spring training facilities in Fort Myers, Fla., early and has been working out since Jan. 11. The 29-year-old reliever says he's "fully healthy" after miss almost two months last season due to a shoulder strain. In his third year with Boston in 2023, Schreiber had a 3.86 ERA (4.52 FIP), a 1.41 WHIP, one save, 25 walks and 53 strikeouts in 46 2/3 innings over 46 appearances (two starts). He'll have a chance to again pitch in high-leverage situations in the back end of Boston's bullpen, especially if the team trades Kenley Jansen before the start of the season, but Schreiber will only be fantasy relevant in deep leagues that reward points for holds. He had a career-high eight saves for the Red Sox in 2022.

Tue Jul 18 202312:16John Schreiber Expected To Return Sunday
Boston Red Sox right-hander John Schreiber (shoulder) made another minor-league rehab appearance on Sunday for Triple-A Worcester, and manager Alex Cora said he will work on back-to-back days in the minors, most likely on Wednesday and Thursday. Schreiber is expected to return from the injured list on Sunday against the New York Mets or next Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves. He's been one of the team's best setup relievers the last two seasons, so getting him back will be a big boost to Boston's bullpen. The 29-year-old has posted a 2.12 ERA (3.19 FIP), 1.29 WHIP, eight walks and 21 K's in 17 relief innings. Sun Mar 12 202312:36John Schreiber Fans Two In Saturday's Outing

The 29-year-old right-hander faced five batters in his most recent spring outing. In his second season in Boston last year, Schreiber had a career-best 2.22 ERA (2.50 FIP), 0.98 WHIP, 22 holds his first eight career saves and a career-high 74 strikeouts in 65 innings over 64 relief appearances. Fri Aug 12 202200:46John Schreiber Notches Save Versus Orioles
Boston Red Sox reliever John Schreiber picked up his fourth save of the season on Thursday, retiring the last six batters of the ballgame to preserve a 4-3 win over the Orioles. The right-hander allowed just one single over his two frames of work while striking out two, tossing 17 of his 25 pitches for strikes. Mon Jul 4 202218:35John Schreiber Earns His Third Save On Monday
Boston Red Sox relief pitcher John Schreiber closed out the team's 4-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday to earn his third save of the year. He pitched the final 1 2/3 innings of the game and retired each of the five batters he faced, tallying one strikeout along the way. The team's primary closer, Tanner Houck, had pitched on both Saturday and Sunday so he was likely unavailable for Monday's contest. Houck is 6-for-6 in save chances since taking on the role in early June, so he's done nothing to lose his ninth inning role. However, Schreiber has been the team's most impressive reliever by most measures this year. He owns a 0.66 ERA and a 0.66 WHIP over 27.1 innings. He's compiled 15 holds and he's 3-for-3 in save chances. He's the reliever to look for if Houck stumbles or suffers an injury.

Wed May 11 202209:22John Schreiber Records Two-Inning Save On Tuesday
Boston Red Sox relief pitcher John Schreiber closed out the team's 9-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday to earn his first save of the year. Schreiber entered the game in the eighth inning while the team was up 6-4. He wound up pitching two straight perfect innings, striking out three batters along the way. The 28-year-old has yet to allow a run over five appearances and 6.1 innings this year. The Red Sox bullpen is a mess right now and Schreiber may have as good a chance as anyone of earning the team's next save opportunity. He's far from a must-add in any fantasy format, but if you're feeling lucky and want to take a chance on a potential saves source, you could do worse.
