Tue Mar 1216:19Max Muncy, Gavin Lux Out Sick Tuesday
Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Max Muncy and shortstop Gavin Lux are both out of camp on Tuesday due to illnesses. Muncy has been out of Cactus League action for a few days and could miss another day or two while resting up. Both infielders should be feeling just fine for their two-game series in Korea against the division-rival San Diego Padres on March 20-21, though. The 33-year-old Muncy has become injury-prone in recent seasons and won't help fantasy managers with his average, but he can still produce plenty of home runs and RBI in a stacked Dodgers lineup. Lux suffered a season-ending knee injury last spring and missed all of 2023. But he's healthy now and will serve as LA's starting shortstop to open the year. The 26-year-old former first-rounder hasn't seen much success at the big-league level, but he has an opportunity to break out in 2024 if he can stay healthy.

Fri Mar 820:45Gavin Lux's Defense "Driver" Of Decision To Shift Back To Second Base
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated on Friday that infielderGavin Lux will shift to second base while Mookie Betts will be handling shortstop duties. Lux's defense at second base was a crucial driver in the decision to put Lux at keystone and move Betts over shortstop. He experienced issues throwing the ball during spring training. The move is "permanent, for now," said Roberts. Lux will play most of the season at second base and could sit against lefties. The 26-year-old played 129 games at second base in 2022 before missing all of last season with a torn ACL and MCL. He slashed .276/.346/.399 with six home runs, 42 RBI, 66 runs, and seven stolen bases over 471 plate appearances. His presence will provide stability at a position that the Dodgers juggled around in 2023. Lux has excellent plate discipline (10.1 BB%), an NFBC ADP of 260, and will look to bounce back in 2024 from last season's gruesome injury. RotoBaller has Lux ranked as the 28th overall second baseman, and he could be a late-round value if he can come close to his 2022 totals despite hitting in the bottom third of a loaded Dodgers lineup.

Fri Mar 808:38No Guarantee Gavin Lux Is Dodgers Shortstop
Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Gavin Lux has experienced issues throwing in his recovery from a torn ACL and that has led to the club being noncommittal to him as their starting shortstop. Heading into the spring, the Dodgers were convinced that the Wisconsin native would be their everyday shortstop, but now it is no sure thing. The Dodgers are fully loaded across their roster, but shortstop depth is one of their weaker positions. If Lux were unable to play shortstop or need more than the average day off, veterans Enrique Hernandez and Miguel Rojas would be the logical replacement. Rojas and Hernandez can be ignored for now and managers should proceed with caution in redraft leagues with Lux.

Fri Mar 800:58Dodgers Won't Commit To Gavin Lux As Primary Shortstop
Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Gavin Lux hasn't been penciled in as the team's primary shortstop quite yet, reports Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. While the club was adamant heading into Spring Training that Lux would be their starting shortstop, they have since become non-committal on the topic, largely due to Lux's throwing issues as he recovers from a torn ACL. Addressing the topic directly, manager Dave Roberts said, "I don't know what's going to happen, but I do know that it will be in the vein of whatever gives us the best chance to win." The Dodgers open their regular season schedule in less than two weeks, and as of now, it's unclear who will be patrolling shortstop. If Lux doesn't earn the job, look for veterans Miguel Rojas, Chris Taylor, and Enrique Hernandez to vie for the spot.

Thu Feb 2200:08Gavin Lux Expects To Play In Spring Opener Thursday
Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Gavin Lux (knee), who suffered a season-ending knee injury in spring training last year, said he expects to be in the lineup on Thursday against the San Diego Padres for the Cactus League opener on Thursday. Lux ditched the knee brace he had been wearing on his surgically repaired right knee last week, although he's still wearing a compression sleeve after having surgery to fix both his ACL and LCL. The 26-year-old has been fully cleared otherwise, though, and will be LA's starting shortstop in 2024. The former first-rounder was pretty mediocre in 2021 and 2022 for the Dodgers, hitting .261 with 13 homers, 88 RBI and 11 steals in 231 games. Lux has shown solid plate discipline and resides in an excellent offense, but hitting at the bottom of the Dodgers' lineup isn't going to give him a ton of upside, and he's probably not going to run all that much coming off major knee surgery.

Sun Feb 422:34Gavin Lux A Full-Go For Spring Training
Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Gavin Lux (knee) "is a full-go for Spring Training," according to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times. Lux tore his ACL last spring and missed all of the 2023 season, but he's healthy once again and is trending toward being the Dodgers' starting shortstop on Opening Day. The former first-round pick has a solid track record in the majors, including a .276/.346/.399 slash line from his last healthy season in 2022. He currently ranks 27th among second basemen (257th overall) in RotoBaller's latest fantasy baseball draft rankings.

Mon Dec 4 202316:15Gavin Lux Expected To Be Dodgers' Starting Shortstop
Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Gavin Lux (knee) is expected to be the team's starting shortstop in 2024 when he returns from a right-knee injury that caused him to miss all of the 2023 campaign. Manager Dave Roberts said that Mookie Betts will be the regular second baseman next year as well, so Lux and Betts should be working together regularly up the middle in LA. General manager Brandon Gomes said earlier this offseason that Lux is on track to be their starting shortstop, and the words from Roberts basically just confirms it. The 26-year-old lacks the power needed to become a high-end fantasy option at the premium position, but he'll have plenty of value on a Dodgers team with a developing hit tool and some decent speed if he avoids injuries next year.

Sun Nov 12 202320:16Gavin Lux Continues Making Progress
Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Gavin Lux (knee) continues to make progress in his recovery, according to Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes. The 25-year-old suffered a torn ACL, MCL, and right hamstring in early March. That is a tough blow, but it sounds like Lux is actually doing surprisingly well. He has progressed to infield drills and should be ready in time for the beginning of the season. The expectation is that Lux is going to be the starting shortstop in Los Angeles next season. Although, there is still time for the Dodgers to add another infielder into the mix. Regardless, Lux is expected to have a significant role on the team next season.

Wed Nov 8 202322:35Dodgers Plan To Give Gavin Lux More Starts At Shortstop
Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes said that the plan right now is for infielder Gavin Lux (knee) to log a good amount of starts at shortstop next season. Gomes also said that Lux is progressing in his rehab after tearing the ACL and LCL in his right knee back in spring training earlier this year. He started a running program in late July and could be fully healthy once spring training starts in 2024. With the 25-year-old in line to be the club's primary shortstop, the Dodgers are leaving open the possibility that Miguel Vargas and Michael Busch could play more corner outfield next year. Injuries have been an issue for Lux early in his career, but if he can stay healthy, a breakout season could easily be in the cards in a loaded Dodgers lineup.

Sun Jul 23 202311:01Gavin Lux Does Light Workout On Saturday
Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Gavin Lux (knee) was able to perform some light drills before Saturday's game against the Texas Rangers. The 25-year-old will not play in 2023 after tearing the ACL in his right knee during the spring, but it's nice to see the former first-round pick continuing his rehab and be with the team. Lux should be ready by Spring Training in 2024 after hitting .276 with a .745 OPS, six home runs, 42 RBI, and seven stolen bases in 421 at-bats in 2022.

Wed Mar 8 202318:05Gavin Lux Has Successful Knee Surgery
Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Gavin Lux's (knee) surgery on Wednesday "went well," according to manager Dave Roberts. In addition to suffering a torn right ACL in a Cactus League game on Feb. 27, Lux's surgery confirmed the damage to his LCL was "more than a sprain." The 25-year-old will miss the entire 2023 season, so fantasy managers in single-year leagues can avoid him. In his absence and with former shortstop Trea Turner in Philadelphia, Miguel Rojas and Chris Taylor are expected to split time at the position, with Rojas being the primary option at the 6.

Tue Feb 28 202312:10Gavin Lux Diagnosed With Torn ACL
Los Angeles Dodgers promising young shortstop Gavin Lux (knee) suffered a torn ACL in the Cactus League game against the San Diego Padres on Monday, according to manager Dave Roberts. The unfortunate injury is expected to sideline Lux for the entire 2023 season. Reports had been circulating Tuesday morning that Lux was expected to miss significant time, and now we know he won't play at all this year, which will likely force Miguel Rojas into starting shortstop duties for the Blue to begin the 2023 campaign. Lux also suffered damage to his LCL and will require surgery on his knee. Rojas, who the Dodgers acquired from the Miami Marlins in the offseason, is a significant offensive downgrade from Lux at the 6.

Mon Feb 27 202317:41Gavin Lux Carted Off The Field Monday
Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Gavin Lux (leg) had to be carted off the field on Monday during the team's Cactus League game against the San Diego Padres, and he wasn't putting any weight on his right leg. Lux went down near third base after hitting the base awkwardly as the Padres third baseman turned a double play. This didn't look good, but we'll have more information on the 25-year-old when it becomes available. Lux was set to be the starting shortstop in 2023 after Trea Turner left in free agency, so an extended absence could be troublesome for the Dodgers up the middle to begin the season. Fantasy managers should keep a close eye on Lux's injury prognosis in the coming days. If he's forced to miss significant time, the Dodgers could use Miguel Rojas at the 6.

Thu Feb 23 202317:31Gavin Lux Has More Bat Speed
Los Angeles Dodgers middle infielder Gavin Lux has shown more bat speed after working on his swing mechanics at Driveline during the offseason. Lux hit fewer fly balls in 2022 and finished terribly due to neck and back issues, but overall it was a solid season, as he finished with a .276/.346/.399 slash line, career-high .745 OPS, six home runs, 42 RBI, 66 runs scored and career-high seven stolen bases in 471 plate appearances and 129 games played. Perhaps his better bat speed will lead to an increase in fly balls and more home runs, but at the very least, Lux should provide fantasy managers with a nice hit tool with decent speed on the base paths in his move to the full-time starting shortstop job in LA in 2023. RotoBaller has the 25-year-old ranked as the No. 52 fantasy middle infielder.

Fri Oct 14 202216:37Gavin Lux Heads To Bench Against Left-Hander
Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Gavin Lux is not in the starting lineup for Game 3 of the National League Division Series on Friday against the San Diego Padres and left-hander Blake Snell. With Lux starting on the bench in this one, Max Muncy will man the keystone and bat fifth. Catcher Will Smith will serve as the designated hitter and bat cleanup, while Austin Barnes will do the catching and hit ninth against Snell. Justin Turner will play third base. Lux has gone 3-for-8 with a double, RBI and two strikeouts in the first two games of this series against San Diego. Muncy has swung the bat very well, going 3-for-7 (.429) with a homer, two RBI, two runs scored, a walk and two strikeouts versus the Friars.

Thu Sep 15 202216:22Gavin Lux Expected To Play This Weekend
Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Gavin Lux (back) will get live at-bats at Camelback Ranch in Arizona on Thursday and will rejoin the Dodgers on Friday. He's expected to play in the series against the division-rival San Francisco Giants this weekend. The 24-year-old hasn't played for the Dodgers since Sept. 1 due to a back injury, but he's nearing his return to the major-league lineup. With Lux injured recently, Chris Taylor has seen most of the playing time at the keystone in LA, with Joey Gallo getting more at-bats in left field. In 369 at-bats for the Dodgers in 2022, Lux is slashing a strong .293/.368/.428 with six home runs, 42 RBI, 62 runs scored and seven stolen bases in 418 plate appearances and 115 games in his fourth big-league campaign.

Fri Sep 9 202221:29Gavin Lux Unlikely To Return Until Next Week
Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Gavin Lux (back) is unlikely to return to action until the Arizona Diamondbacks series next week, at the earliest. Lux hasn't played in a week and needed to go for a cortisone shot on Saturday. The 24-year-old's sore back has been doing better since but he is still going to be out at least until Tuesday. Lux is hitting .293 with six homers, 62 runs, 42 RBI, and seven steals on the season.

Mon Sep 5 202219:53Gavin Lux Won't Play In Series Versus Giants
Los Angeles Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts said that infielder Gavin Lux (back) won't play in this week's series against the division-rival San Francisco Giants. Lux is still recovering from a cortisone injection that he received on Saturday. It means that the 24-year-old won't return until the start of another series against the San Diego Padres on Friday, at the earliest. The Dodgers have the National League West locked up, so they won't push Lux in the final month of the regular season. Mookie Betts is making a start at the keystone on Monday and is hitting leadoff against Giants right-hander Logan Webb. Lux is having a fine season at the dish in 2022, slashing .293/.368/.428 with six home runs, 42 RBI, 62 runs scored and seven stolen bases in 369 at-bats.

Mon Sep 5 202208:37Gavin Lux Could Miss More Time
Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Gavin Lux (back, neck) was out of the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the San Diego Padres. He has missed three straight games due to a lingering back and neck issue. The team did give Lux a cortisone shot on Saturday, so hopefully that helps him. The 24-year-old will likely receive a few more days of rest, but should return at some point next week.
