Mon Mar 415:21Cavan Biggio "Going In The Right Direction"
Toronto Blue Jays infielder Cavan Biggio (shoulder) is "still going in the right direction," according to manager John Schneider. Biggio hit in Sunday's simulated game in camp and has been doing full defensive drills as he recovers from tendinitis in his left (non-throwing) shoulder in spring training. It's not considered a serious injury for the 28-year-old, but the Blue Jays have been slow-playing him. It's unclear when Biggio will make his Grapefruit League debut, but as long as he doesn't have any setbacks with his shoulder, he still has time to be ready for Opening Day on March 28. Biggio should bounce around between second and third base for the Jays in 2024, but his bat has been underwhelming for fantasy managers the last three years. Unless he can make more contact, Biggio will merely be useful for infield depth in AL-only leagues.

Thu Feb 2213:27Cavan Biggio Taking Batting Practice Thursday
Toronto Blue Jays infielder Cavan Biggio (shoulder) is taking batting practice on the field at spring training on Thursday. Biggio has been dealing with left-shoulder tendinitis in camp, but the issue never sounded serious, and he has plenty of time to get ready for Opening Day in late March. The 28-year-old probably won't play in Grapefruit League games this weekend, but he should be able to join the lineup sooner than later in spring action. Biggio was the team's everyday second baseman down the stretch in 2023 and will compete for playing time at both the keystone and third base for the Jays in 2024. Plate discipline is probably Biggio's biggest asset, as he's proven to be a below-average hitter in recent seasons and strikes out far too much. As a likely utility player for Toronto, he's merely a middle-infield option in deep-mixed fantasy leagues.

Thu Feb 1516:21Cavan Biggio Dealing With Left-Shoulder Tendinitis
Toronto Blue Jays infielder Cavan Biggio (shoulder) is dealing with left-shoulder tendinitis in spring training, according to manager John Schneider. It sounds like more of a precaution than anything in mid-February, but Biggio isn't hitting off live pitching on the field just yet in camp. It was reported earlier on Thursday that Biggio, Santiago Espinal and Isiah Kiner-Falefa will be options at both second and third base this year for the Blue Jays. The 28-year-old Biggio could still be ready by Opening Day, but it's something to keep an eye on. He became the team's regular second baseman down the stretch in 2023 but has proven to be a below-average MLB hitter the last several years and will probably bounce around between second and third in 2024 when the team is facing right-handed pitching.

Thu Feb 1512:32Cavan Biggio In Mix At Second And Third Base
Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that infielders Cavan Biggio, Santiago Espinal and Isiah Kiner-Falefa will be in the mix at both second and third base this spring, calling it "a cool puzzle to solve." Meanwhile, Davis Schneider is going to focus on playing left field in camp as well as the keystone. The Blue Jays are going to have some options to mix and match at second and third, and the 28-year-old Biggio should see regular playing time at one of the spots against right-handed pitchers in 2024. He became the team's everyday player at second down the stretch in 2023 and finished by hitting .235 (68-for-289) with nine home runs, 40 RBI, five steals and 54 runs scored in a career-high 111 games. Biggio has proven to be a below-average hitter, but he can be useful in deeper fantasy leagues for his on-base percentage.

Fri Apr 14 202312:25Cavan Biggio Steals First Base Of The Season Thursday
Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Cavan Biggio went 1-for-4 with a run scored, his first stolen base of the year and two strikeouts in the team's 3-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Thursday. Biggio isn't an everyday player for the Blue Jays, and he won't have much offensive upside hitting at the bottom of the batting order. He's gone just 4-for-25 (.160) with a home run, RBI, stolen base and four runs scored in his first 10 games of the 2023 season. The 28-year-old can also play the outfield, but he's mostly a super-utility player for the Jays at this point, limiting his fantasy appeal to AL-only leagues for his speed.

Thu Mar 2 202311:25Cavan Biggio Expected To Play Infield And Outfield
Toronto Blue Jays utility man Cavan Biggio is expected to split his playing time in the infield and outfield this coming season. The 27-year-old spent the bulk of 2022 at second and first base, and the Blue Jays were pleased by his performance in the outfield. While he made just nine appearances in the outfield, Biggio has had success in the outfield before and he could be even more of a defensive threat in the outfield. At the plate, his bat isn't too resourceful and at the rate his career is going, Biggio won't be contributing much offense. In 2022, he slashed .202/.318/.350 with a 92 OPS+. His strikeout rate reached a career-high 28.1% mark, which is certainly a concern heading into the season. However, his defensive contributions have never been questioned and he may even secure his first Gold Glove award.

Fri Jan 13 202316:29Blue Jays, Cavan Biggio Avoid Arbitration
The Toronto Blue Jays and infielder Cavan Biggio avoided salary arbitration on Friday by coming to an agreement on a one-year, $2.8 million deal. The 27-year-old son of former second baseman Craig Biggio hit just .202/.318/.350 with a career-low .668 OPS, six home runs, 24 RBI, 43 runs scored and two stolen bases in 303 plate appearances and 97 games for the blue Jays in 2022. Biggio has regressed since his rookie season with Toronto in 2019 and has slashed a weak .213/.320/.353 with 13 home runs, 51 RBI and five stolen bases combined in the last two seasons. But he still will have fantasy appeal in deep mixed and AL-only leagues as a utility infielder in a strong Blue Jays lineup heading into next season.

Thu May 26 202218:47Cavan Biggio Recalled From Minors
The Toronto Blue Jays recalled infielder Cavan Biggio from Triple-A on Thursday and optioned infielder Vinny Capra to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Biggio is starting at first base and is batting ninth in his return to Toronto's starting lineup on Thursday night against Los Angeles Angels right-hander Shohei Ohtani. Biggio missed a few weeks while on the COVID injured list in late April and early May, and the Blue Jays sent him to the minors when he cleared the league's protocols. The 27-year-old went 1-for-23 with no homers and 10 strikeouts in 13 big-league games earlier this year, but he was hitting. 276 with no homers, three RBI and two steals in 10 games for Triple-A Buffalo before being called up. In a tough matchup against last year's American League MVP in Ohtani, Biggio is a fade in DFS.

Mon May 16 202218:56Cavan Biggio Reinstated And Sent To Triple-A
The Toronto Blue Jays reinstated infielder Cavan Biggio from the COVID-19 injured list on Monday. He has been optioned to Triple-A. The 27-year-old spent the first few weeks of the season in the majors before landing on the COVID-19 injured list. He struggled significantly during his time with the team, slashing .043/.214/.043 across 13 games. Biggio has failed to find consistency at the plate over the last three seasons and if he continues to struggle at Triple-A, there's a chance we won't see him in the majors again in 2022.

Mon May 2 202221:09Cavan Biggio Returns To The Field Monday
Toronto Blue Jays infielder Cavan Biggio cleared the league's COVID-19 protocols and was able to start baseball activities on Monday. Biggio has been sidelined with the virus since April 25 and could possibly embark on a rehab assignment before playing for the big league club. The 27-year-old is off to a slow start in 2022, hitting just .043 with two runs across 23 at-bats. Santiago Espinal has performed well filling in at second base and might not cede the starting job back to Biggio, even when the latter is ready to rejoin the Blue Jays.

Mon Apr 25 202218:49Cavan Biggio Lands On COVID-Related Injured List
The Toronto Blue Jays placed third baseman Cavan Biggio on the COVID-related injured list on Monday. The team called up right-handed pitcher Bowden Francis in a corresponding move. There's no word yet as to what caused Biggio to be placed on the injured list. Perhaps the Blue Jays interpreted his 1-for-23 start to the year as a COVID-19 symptom. Francis, meanwhile, is rated as the team's No. 15 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline. The 26-year-old has yet to appear in the majors. Last year, he went 13-7 with a 3.93 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP over 132.2 innings split between Double-A and Triple-A.

Mon Mar 21 202214:23Cavan Biggio Recovering From Elbow Sprain
Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Cavan Biggio (elbow) suffered a left elbow sprain in the offseason, which is why he hasn't appeared in a spring training game yet, according to manager Charlie Montoyo. Biggio is expected to make his spring debut later this week, possibly as soon as Tuesday. As long as he doesn't have any setbacks when he gets into games, he should be ready for the start of the regular season. The 26-year-old should be Toronto's regular second baseman this year after struggling to a .224/.322/.356 slash line with seven home runs and 27 RBI in 79 games in 2021. Biggio could be in jeopardy of losing his starting job at the keystone if he doesn't get off to a strong start this year.

Thu Sep 16 202108:50Cavan Biggio Hits A Grand Slam At Triple-A
Toronto Blue Jays infielder Cavan Biggio (elbow) had a big game at Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday. He went 3-for-5 with a grand slam, a walk, five RBI and four runs scored. The 26-year-old has been plagued with a number of injuries this year. He's only managed to appear in 77 games for the Blue Jays. He was diagnosed with a Grade 1 UCL sprain in his left elbow in August while he was in the midst of rehabbing neck and back injuries. He's been struggling overall during his current rehab stint, slashing .167/.286/.333 over 14 games, but maybe his big game on Wednesday can help get him back on track.

Wed Aug 25 202118:19Cavan Biggio Week To Week With Elbow Injury
Toronto Blue Jays infielder Cavan Biggio (elbow, neck/back) is being shut down from hitting for a week after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 UCL sprain in his left elbow. Biggio sustained the injury while diving for a ball during a game at Triple-A Buffalo, where he has been on a rehab assignment for neck and back injuries that sidelined him in early August. The 26-year-old was struggling at the plate prior to hitting the IL, slashing just .136/.220/.205 with six hits over his last 44 at-bats. Fantasy managers can move on from Biggio at this point if they haven't already.

Tue Aug 24 202107:36Cavan Biggio Injures Elbow At Triple-A
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Cavan Biggio (neck/elbow) suffered a left elbow injury after diving for a ball in a rehab game at Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday. The team is in the midst of evaluating the injury and we should know more about the severity of it soon. Biggio has been out since August 3 while dealing with back and neck injuries. During this current rehab stint, he has appeared in seven games at Triple-A, going just 3-for-22. Biggio was struggling at the plate in the majors before his initial injuries. Through 77 games with the Blue Jays this year, he has slashed .215/.316/.350 with seven home runs, 26 RBI and 26 runs. He can be dropped if you need to use his IL spot for another more valuable player.

Thu Aug 12 202121:23Cavan Biggio Begins Rehab Assignment Thursday
Toronto Blue Jays infielder Cavan Biggio (neck) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday. He's been sidelined since August 3 with back and neck discomfort. The 26-year-old has struggled this season, slashing .215/.316/.350 with seven home runs, 26 RBI, 26 runs scored, and three stolen bases over 77 games. Biggio is eligible to come off the injured list on Friday but might need a few games in Triple-A before the Blue Jays decide to activate him. The Blue Jays infielder has power and speed upside and could be a difference-maker in the final stretch of the season if he can turn things around.

Wed Aug 11 202121:42Danny Jansen Progressing, Cavan Biggio Still Hurting
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen (hamstring) is progressing well, is running the bases and could start playing in rehab games soon. Infielder Cavan Biggio (back), however, is still bothered by his back injury. Jansen was placed on the injured list with a right hamstring strain two weeks ago, but he's nearing a return. He was hitting just .176/.259/.336 with five homers and 10 RBI in 49 games this year before his injury, so he'll likely share catching duties in Toronto upon his return, in a best-case scenario. Alejandro Kirk and Reese McGuire have been splitting catching duties. Biggio was put on the injured list on Aug. 3 for an injury that he's been dealing with all year. The 26-year-old has seven home runs in 246 at-bats, but he hasn't helped much with his .215/.316/.350 slash line, and it's looking like he won't be ready to return when he's eligible.

Tue Aug 3 202117:05Cavan Biggio Placed On 10-Day Injured List
The Toronto Blue Jays placed third baseman Cavan Biggio (back/neck) on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday due to back and neck discomfort. The team activated outfielder Corey Dickerson in a corresponding move. Biggio has been dealing with lingering back and neck discomfort throughout the year and has really struggled at the plate all year. He's especially had a rough patch over the last month. He slashed just .175/.222/.263 in July. In shallow leagues, he's a drop candidate if you don't have an extra IL spot. In deep leagues and AL-only leagues, he's worth holding onto. He could be a valuable power and speed asset amidst one of the league's top lineups if he can get things together this year.

Sat Jul 31 202114:28Cavan Biggio Not In Saturday's Lineup
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman/outfielder Cavan Biggio is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's matchup with the Royals. This looks to just be a day off for Biggio, who has been struggling at the plate recently, slashing .208/.288/.292 with one home run, one steal, 12 RBI and eight runs scored over his last 30 games. He's been struggling all year long, and at this point there's no reason he should still be rostered in any format. With Biggio out, Santiago Espinal will get the start at third and bat eighth against Kansas City.

Thu Jul 29 202122:38Cavan Biggio Remains Cold At The Plate Thursday
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Cavan Biggio continued his recent struggles at the plate on Thursday night, finishing 1-for-5 with one RBI and a strikeout in a 13-1 win over the Red Sox. It was Biggio's second hit in his last five games, as he was slashing .173/.224/.269 with one home run, one steal, six RBI and five runs scored over 18 games in the month of July entering Thursday's matchup. Needless to say Biggio has been a disappointment this year with a .221 average and .682 OPS over 74 games. At this point it seems Biggio is doing more harm than help in fantasy, and it might be time to finally cut loose Biggio in most formats.
