Wed Nov 29 202318:08Royals Sign Garrett Hampson To One-Year Deal
The Kansas City Royals signed free-agent infielder/outfielder Garrett Hampson to a one-year, $2 million deal on Wednesday, according to sources. Hampson hit the open market this offseason after he was non-tendered by the Miami Marlins. The 29-year-old utility man saw action at shortstop, second base, third base and all over the outfield in 2023 for the Fish and was productive at the plate as well, slashing .276/.349/.380 with three home runs, 12 doubles, a triple, 23 RBI, five stolen bases and 30 runs scored in 98 games played in his first year away from Colorado. Hampson isn't an everyday player at the big-league level, but he could have a shot to play even more in 2024 with the rebuilding Royals. Hampson has only 29 career home runs with a .241 batting average in six seasons in the majors.

Tue May 16 202314:59Garrett Hampson Promoted To Leadoff Spot Tuesday
Miami Marlins utility player Garrett Hampson will hit out of the leadoff spot for just the third time this season Tuesday night against Washington Nationals right-hander Josiah Gray. Signed to a minor-league deal following his release from the Colorado Rockies, Hampson has managed to appear in 26 games with the Marlins this season while producing solid figures at the plate. The 28-year-old is hitting .262 with one homer, two stolen bases, and a .725 OPS across 69 trips to the plate. That production is 2% below the league average, as per his 98 wRC+, while Hampson has seen time at second base, shortstop, right field, and center field. He will man center field on Tuesday while taking on a pitcher in Gray who sports a 2.96 ERA but also a 4.36 FIP and 4.72 SIERA across eight starts.

Fri May 5 202312:21Garrett Hampson Starting In Right Field Friday
Miami Marlins second baseman Garrett Hampson is making the start in right field and is hitting ninth in the batting order on Friday against the Chicago Cubs and left-hander Justin Steele. Along with playing some right field while Avisail Garcia (back) is on the injured list, Hampson is also seeing playing time at shortstop in Miami with Joey Wendle (intercostal) injured. It's good news for the 28-year-old in NL-only leagues, but he doesn't have a ton of upside otherwise. Hampson is currently hitting .250 (13-for-52) with six doubles, one home run, five RBI, two stolen bases and eight runs scored in his first 20 games in 2023. He won't hold much DFS intrigue in the nine-hole on Friday.

Thu Apr 20 202312:51Garrett Hampson Steals His First Base Of The Season
Miami Marlins infielder Garrett Hampson went 2-for-4 with a run scored, a walk and two strikeouts in Wednesday's 5-2 extra-inning loss to the San Francisco Giants and also added his first stolen base of the season while starting at shortstop. Hampson could continue to see more starts at the 6 in Miami if Jon Berti continues to struggle with his glove. However, the 28-year-old Hampson won't bring a ton of offensive upside for fantasy managers in deeper leagues, especially at the bottom of the batting order. In his first nine games of the year in his first season with the Fish, Hampson has four hits in 18 at-bats (.222 average) with a double, home run, two RBI, one stolen base and three runs scored in 20 plate appearances.

Sun May 1 202219:47Garrett Hampson Likely To Be Activated On Monday
Colorado Rockies infielder Garrett Hampson (hand) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list on Monday. The young infielder has been sidelined since April 17 due to a right hand contusion. Hampson has been playing in the minor leagues without any issues, so it appears that he is ready to return to the MLB roster. Before the injury, Hampson was struggling at the plate, but it was a small sample size. He isn't someone worth holding in most fantasy formats while he's struggling with the bat.

Fri Apr 29 202221:20Garrett Hampson Will Begin Rehab Assignment Saturday
Colorado Rockies infielder Garrett Hampson (hand) will head to a rehab assignment with the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes on Saturday. Hampson is expected to play Saturday and Sunday with an eye on returning to the Rockies in time for their Tuesday game against the Washington Nationals. Hampson hasn't done much on the field this season, picking up just one hit in nine at-bats while scoring two runs and notching a steal.

Fri Apr 29 202214:05Garrett Hampson Could Be Nearing Rehab Assignment
Colorado Rockies infielder/outfielder Garrett Hampson (hand) took soft toss in the batting cages on April 26 and took batting practice on the field on April 27. It could take a couple batting practice sessions before he goes on a minor league rehab assignment. Hampson is currently on the injured list with a bruised right hand, but he could be close to a return to the Rockies if he doesn't suffer any setbacks on a rehab assignment. The 27-year-old was off to a slow start this year before his injury, getting just one hit in nine at-bats over three games with two walks and two strikeouts.

Sun Apr 17 202212:58Garrett Hampson Goes On Injured List
The Colorado Rockies placed second baseman/outfielder Garrett Hampson (hand) on the 10-day injured list on Sunday with a bruised right hand and recalled infielder Colton Welker from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move. Hampson has played in only three games so far this year, going 1-for-9 with a stolen base, two walks and two strikeouts in 12 plate appearances. It's unclear when he suffered the bruised hand. Brendan Rodgers will start at the keystone once again on Sunday and hit sixth against Chicago Cubs left-hander Drew Smyly. Welker will serve as infield depth for Colorado after hitting .189 with no home runs and two RBI in his first 40 major league plate appearances in 2021.

Wed Sep 22 202119:28Garrett Hampson Getting A Breather On Wednesday
Colorado Rockies outfielder Garrett Hampson is absent from the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Sam Hilliard is manning center field for the game while Raimel Tapia is leading off. Hampson has been the team's primary leadoff hitter lately and he's been producing some decent results. Over 16 games this month, he's slashing .264/.328/.509 with 12 runs scored. He ranks in the 99th percentile in sprint speed and he's stolen 17 bases over 24 attempts on the year. With his lack of power (.369 xSLG), he'll need to run more often and more efficiently in order to become a more attractive fantasy option. As it currently stands, he's only worth a roster spot in NL-only leagues and deep five-outfielder leagues.

Thu Sep 16 202111:20Garrett Hampson Absent From Thursday's Lineup
Colorado Rockies outfielder Garrett Hampson is penciled in on the bench for Thursday's matchup against the Atlanta Braves, according to MLB.com. Hampson is slashing .243/.298/.400 this season with 11 HRs and 17 SBs over 135 games. However, he has just a .636 OPS against righties this season, so with righty Ian Anderson on the mound, he'll hit the bench. Outfielder Sam Hilliard will play right field and bat sixth. Hilliard is hitting just .195 but is slugging .433 with 10 HRs in 66 games. He might be worth the stream in hopes that he can show off some of his raw power.

Tue Sep 7 202101:18Garrett Hampson Goes Deep In Loss To The Giants
Colorado Rockies outfielder Garrett Hampson went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a strikeout in a 10-5 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Monday. Hampson took Kevin Gausman deep in the bottom of the seventh inning for his only hit of the ball game. It was his ninth long ball of the year. Hampson has played sparingly over the last 15 games, logging just 39 at-bats, and has struggled with a .205/.262/.308 batting line over that span. It's been an underwhelming season overall for the speedy 26-year-old as he's got suboptimal .237/.291/.382 batting line with nine home runs, 27 RBI, and 16 stolen bases over 393 at-bats. Even with the stolen bases, it's hard to roster Hampson because he's a liability in every other meaningful category.

Sun Aug 22 202111:54Garrett Hampson Delivers A Clutch Home Run
Colorado Rockies infielder/outfielder Garrett Hampson went 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit, two-run homer in a 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday. Hampson wasn't in the starting lineup as Colorado went with Connor Joe, Charlie Blackmon, and Sam Hilliard in the outfield. Hampson was still able to make an impact in this game as he delivered a clutch, pinch-hit home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. The two-run homer tied up the ball game and Colorado would go on to win the contest in the bottom of the ninth, courtesy of another clutch long ball. It's doubtful that many fantasy managers were starting Hampson as he didn't start in this ball game but it's still nice to see him show some power. He's now homered in back-to-back contests and has his season batting line up to .240/.294/.390 with eight home runs, 25 RBI, and 15 stolen bases over 354 at-bats.

Sat Aug 21 202111:10Garrett Hampson Fills It Up On Friday
Colorado Rockies outfielder Garrett Hampson went 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBI, two runs scored, a walk, a stolen base, and two strikeouts in a 9-4 win over the D-Backs on Friday. Hampson had a nice little day at the dish, putting the Rockies on the board in the top of the second inning with a two-run homer. He would reach base again with a walk, swipe his 15th bag of the season, and score another run later in the game. The 26-year-old speed demon has been struggling over the last month so there's a good chance many fantasy managers weren't starting him, let alone rostering him, for Friday's big game. On the year, he's batting .238 with a .672 OPS, seven home runs, 23 RBI, and 15 stolen bases over 353 at-bats.

Wed Aug 18 202119:22Garrett Hampson Singles Three Times In Win
Colorado Rockies outfielder Garrett Hampson went 3-for-4 with three singles, a strikeout, and was caught stealing in a 7-5 win over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday. Hampson started in center field and hit out of the number two hole on Wednesday and reached base three times with three singles. It was his second multi-hit game of the month but he was also caught stealing. The 26-year-old speedster has just two stolen bases since July 1, which is troubling for a player that's typically rostered for his theft potential. He's slashing a lowly .237/.290/.371 with six home runs, 21 RBI, and 14 swipes on the year. His fantasy relevancy is hanging on by a thread these days as he doesn't play every day and can't hit for average.
