Fri Mar 100:39Dakota Hudson Competing For Rotation Spot
Colorado Rockies pitcher Dakota Hudson is competing for a spot in the starting rotation at the MLB level, according to Thomas Harding of MLB.com. He worked around two walks and one hit to toss a shutout inning on Thursday. Cut loose by the St. Louis Cardinals this past offseason, Hudson posted a 5.06 FIP, 4.98 K/9, 3.76 BB/9, and 51.5 GB% last year. The former first-round pick hasn't quite lived up to his potential, but he's still in the mix for an Opening Day roster spot. He has logged at least two MLB outings in each of the last six seasons and should extend that streak to seven in 2024.

Fri Jan 519:15Rockies To Sign Jacob Stallings, Dakota Hudson
The Colorado Rockies are expected to sign free-agent catcher Jacob Stallings and right-hander Dakota Hudson to undisclosed one-year deals on Friday, according to a source. Both Stallings and Hudson were non-tendered by the Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals, respectively. Stallings should serve as the backup to Elias Diaz in 2024 after hitting .210/.287/.290 with seven home runs and 54 RBI in 202 games for the Fish the last two seasons. Hudson had a 4.64 ERA (4.60 FIP) and 1.47 WHIP with a weak 13 percent strikeout rate in his last two seasons with the Cardinals over 221 innings and 45 outings (38 starts). The 29-year-old has a good shot to open the 2024 season in Colorado's starting rotation, but Coors Field isn't usually a place where pitchers go to turn things around.

Tue Aug 15 202314:29Dakota Hudson Making Fourth Start Tuesday
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Dakota Hudson will get the ball for his fourth start of the season Tuesday night against the visiting Oakland A's. It's the 28-year-old's 10th appearance overall this season as he has spent much of the campaign at Triple-A. It's been tough sledding for the right-hander who posted a 6.00 ERA across 11 minor-league starts but he's also worked to a reasonable 4.31 ERA in the big leagues across 31 1/3 innings this season. Hudson's career started quite promising as he posted a 2.63 ERA across 26 relief outings as a 23-year-old rookie in 2018 before turning in a 3.35 ERA across 174 2/3 innings as a full-time starter the following season. He has a nice opportunity to lower his ERA Tuesday against an A's offense that sits in a three-way tie for last place with a .292 wOBA versus right-handed pitching this season.

Wed Jul 19 202300:32Dakota Hudson To Start Wednesday
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Dakota Hudson will start Wednesday's game against the Miami Marlins Wednesday, per St. Louis Dispatch's Derrick Goold. Sandy Alcantara will be the opposing pitcher. Hudson started the season with Triple-A Memphis and compiled a poor 6.00 ERA in 11 starts. However, he has turned in a 1.80 ERA over 10 innings of relief since joining the Cardinals in the beginning of July. While he offers little strikeout upside, Hudson has been a useful streamer at times throughout his career. However, given his opponent, his Minor League numbers this season, and the fact that he has not started for the Cardinals this season, fantasy managers should avoid him in this matchup.

Tue Mar 21 202320:11Matthew Liberatore, Dakota Hudson Optioned Tuesday
The St. Louis Cardinals optioned left-hander Matthew Liberatore and right-hander Dakota Hudson to Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday. The Cardinals will roll with Adam Wainwright, Miles Mikolas, Jordan Montgomery, Jack Flaherty and Steven Matz in their five-man starting rotation to begin the 2023 regular season, so Liberatore and Hudson will begin in the minors. Liberatore is the team's No. 6 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, but the 23-year-old southpaw will need to show better life on his fastball if he's going to have continued success once he gets another shot in St. Louis' rotation. Hudson, 28, will work on building up his velocity at Memphis before the Cardinals consider him a rotation option at the big-league level.

Fri Jan 13 202318:28Dakota Hudson Settles For $2.65 Million
The St. Louis Cardinals and starting pitcher Dakota Hudson avoided salary arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.65 million deal on Friday. It wasn't a great year for Hudson in 2022. In his return from Tommy John surgery, he recorded a career-high 4.45 ERA (4.34 FIP), 1.45 WHIP and career-low 13.1 percent strikeout rate in 139 2/3 innings over 27 appearances (26 starts). Heading into his sixth season with the Cardinals, Hudson is in line to open the 2023 campaign in the bullpen, limiting his fantasy appeal in deeper formats. He should eventually see some time in the rotation, but he's gone over 139 innings just one in his career and will have limited fantasy upside.

Mon Sep 5 202214:32Cardinals Option Dakota Hudson To Triple-A
The St. Louis Cardinals optioned starting pitcher Dakota Hudson to Triple-A on Monday. The 27-year-old has been a solid rotation option for the Cardinals this year, logging a 4.43 ERA, a 4.45 FIP, 72 walks, and 56 walks in 126 innings. He's given up three runs or fewer in six of his last 10 starts but will head to Triple-A to make room on the active roster for fellow starting pitcher Jack Flaherty, who was activated from the 60-day injured list on Monday. St. Louis' current rotation options include Flaherty, Adam Wainwright, Jordan Montgomery, Miles Mikolas, and Jose Quintana.

Fri Apr 29 202200:31Dakota Hudson Allows One Hit In Win Thursday
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Dakota Hudson was sharp in his outing Thursday as his club defeated the Diamondbacks 8-3. The right-hander surrendered just one hit and three walks over six frames of work, striking out four to improve his record to 2-1 on the year. The D'backs first hit didn't come until one out in the fifth as Hudson did struggle a bit with control by throwing 46 of his 84 pitches (54.8%) for strikes. He hasn't exactly faced the toughest of opponents through his first four starts of 2022, but his 2.75 ERA and 1.02 WHIP shouldn't be ignored by fantasy players. More could be had with his 14/9 K/BB, but Hudson still makes a viable streaming option in his next scheduled start versus the Royals next week.

Tue Mar 22 202216:31Dakota Hudson Throws Two Scoreless Innings On Tuesday
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Dakota Hudson started Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Miami Marlins and provided two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk while recording one strikeout. Hudson is expected to be a key part of the Cardinals rotation after missing almost all of the 2021 season recovering from Tommy John Surgery. The 27-year-old has an excellent fastball and figures to be a solid fantasy contributor in all formats, although his upside is limited by a lack of strikeouts.

Sat Oct 2 202102:20Dakota Hudson Pitches Well In His First Start
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Dakota Hudson pitched well in his first start of the season on Friday. Hudson, who missed most of the season while recovering from Tommy John Surgery, pitched five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out four. Hudson will likely pitch in relief in the playoffs, but should be in the plans to be in the rotation next season. He ended up with a no decision on Friday.

Wed Sep 8 202113:39Dakota Hudson Completes Third Rehab Start
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Dakota Hudson (elbow) threw 46 pitches in a four-inning rehab start on Tuesday, walking two and striking out one. It was his third rehab start thus far, and the team wants him to appear in at least two more, according to Derrick S. Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Hudson has missed all of 2021 after undergoing Tommy John surgery last year, but he may return to the club this season. If he does make it back to the Cardinals, it would likely be in a relief role as he tries to ease back into things. In 2020, Hudson pitched to a 2.77 ERA, albeit with 20.5 K% and 9.9 BB%. He has very little value as a reliever and should be kept on the waiver wire if he returns.

Sun Aug 22 202115:28Dakota Hudson Could Return To St. Louis This Year
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Dakota Hudson (elbow) could return to the Cardinals before the end of the season in some capacity, according to Jeff Jones of the Belleville News Democrat. General manager John Mozeliak said that Hudson has made significant strides in his rehab, adding that he looked good in a bullpen session last week. Mozeliak said that if asked a month ago, he would have said that Hudson was unlikely to return this season, but now it looks like Hudson could begin a rehab assignment sometime next week. Hudson is recovering from Tommy John surgery he underwent last year, and in eight starts last year prior to surgery he went 3-2 with a 2.77 ERA, 1.000 WHIP and 20.5 percent strikeout rate across 39 innings of work. If he does return, he could be an interesting guy to pick up in deep formats for a potential boost in the playoffs, but for the majority of managers he can be ignored until 2022.

Mon Mar 29 202112:25Cards to send Miklos, Hudson, Bader to IL to start season
ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals plan to start the season Thursday in Cincinnati with pitchers Kwang Hyun Kim, Dakota Hudson and Miles Mikolas on the injured list along with outfielder Harrison Bader. Hudson always planned to begin on the season on the injured list as he recovers from Tommy John surgery. Kim is dealing with a back injury, Mikolas with a sore shoulder and Bader has a strained right foreman that could keep him out a month, the Cardinals said Sunday. The Cardinals also reassigned pitcher Kodi Whitley and outfielder Lane Thomas and reassigned catchers Tyler Heineman and Dennis Ortego and infielders Max Moroff and Jose Rondon to the minors as they settle their opening day roster. The moves mean the Cardinals plan to keep utility man John Nogowski, infielder Edmundo Sosa, pitcher Jake Woodford and outfielders Austin Dean and Justin Williams on the roster they will submit Thursday to start the season. “It was a tough competition, there were some tough conversations,” Cardinals... Mon Feb 22 202114:44Competition is on for Cardinals starting rotation spot
John Gant had just settled into his seat, with those flowing red locks and rust-colored beard giving the St. Louis Cardinals pitcher an unmistakable presence, when he was asked about how comfortable he's become working out of the bullpen. He went 11-1 as a reliever a couple years ago and was nearly as dominant during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. “I would really like to have a chance at that starting rotation," Gant replied, “and get out of that bullpen role.” So much for that line of questioning. “If that's where the team sees me,” Gant continued, “that's where they see me. I can't do anything about that. But I really want a crack at that rotation and get some starts again. ... I want to get an opportunity to go deeper into games, and go out there and play baseball for a couple of hours instead of a couple minutes." The problem for Gant is that the decision does not rest entirely in his hands, no matter how well he pitches in spring training. The Cardinals have four starters relatively... [More]

Tue Sep 22 202018:54Cardinals put Hudson on 45-day IL, bring Whitley back
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals shut down Dakota Hudson for the season by transferring him to the 45-day injured list Tuesday while activating reliever Kodi Whitley and optioning Junior Fernandez to their alternate training site. Hudson left his start last Thursday against Pittsburgh after two innings with elbow tightness, and Cardinals president John Mozeliak said an MRI exam revealed a “flexor tendon issue.” Hudson was supposed to see Cardinals medical director Dr. George A. Paletta Jr. for another exam Tuesday but that has been delayed. The 25-year-old Hudson, who won 16 games last season, will finish 3-2 with a 2.77 ERA in eight starts this season. Whitley is the last Cardinals player that was part of the team's COVID-19 outbreak to return. The reason he's been out so long has been elbow soreness. He threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings in two appearances before he was sidelined. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports

PITTSBURGH (AP) — St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Dakota Hudson left his start Thursday night after two innings because of right elbow tightness. The Cardinals entered the night percentage points behind the Cincinnati Reds for second place in the NL Central, 5 ½ games behind the Chicago Cubs.
