Sun May 1 202200:13Isan Diaz Traded To Giants
The San Francisco Giants have acquired second baseman Isan Diaz from the Marlins for cash considerations or a player to be named later. The 25-year-old has struggled to make an impact at the big-league level by batting a paltry .185 with nine homers through 145 games with Miami after showing some promise in the minor leagues during the 2018-19 seasons. Diaz is yet to make an appearance in the majors in 2022, and should stay off fantasy watchlists since he'll mainly serve as a depth piece in the Giants organization.

Tue Mar 22 202210:47Isan Diaz Designated For Assignment
Miami Marlins infielder Isan Diaz was designated for assignment on Tuesday to make room for the newly signed Jorge Soler. Diaz was getting a lot of spring playing time, leading some Marlins fans to believe the Marlins were going to give him yet another chance to play this season despite his career .185/.275/.287 line across 145 big league games. One of the prospects acquired in the Christian Yelich trade, Diaz proved to be a liability at the plate, on the field, and on the bases. He'll likely clear waivers and remain in the Marlins organization.

Fri Sep 3 202101:20Isan Diaz Continues To Be An Easy Out
Miami Marlins infielder Isan Diaz continued his season-long struggles in Thursday's game against the New York Mets. Diaz has played second and third base, both poorly, while hitting .187 with a .573 OPS. Those numbers are despite a recent hot streak. Diaz has seemingly played all season, but he did spend some time in Triple-A, where he also struggled. At some point, it may come time for the Marlins to admit that Diaz just cannot hit major league pitching. Right now, his only tool is a good eye, as he's drawn 34 walks in 239 plate appearances. His swing still has a ton of holes in it, and his BABIP (.252) is only slightly below league average, meaning his poor results haven't just been bad luck. He also seems to make nightly base running mistakes. Assuming the Marlins truly do try to improve this offseason in order to compete next year, these could be Diaz's last major league games.

Tue Aug 3 202123:55Isan Diaz Hits A Homer On Tuesday
Miami Marlins infielder Isan Diaz hit a home run in Tuesday's win over the New York Mets. Diaz went 2-for-4 with the solo home run, giving him an RBI and a run scored as well. His other hit was a single. The strong performance skyrocketed Diaz's batting average to .184 and his OPS to .598. Diaz has shown lots of upside in Triple-A but has yet to do anything at the major league level. This could be the start of a hot streak or it could be just another tease, but either way, it seems like the Marlins will keep finding playing time for the guy whose batting average has yet to reach .200 this season.

Sun May 2 202122:23Slam! Pollock 8 RBIs, Beaty 7 as Dodgers bop Brewers 16-4
MILWAUKEE (AP) — A.J. Pollock drove in eight runs and Matt Beaty knocked in seven, with both players hitting early grand slams in a startling power show that sent the Los Angeles Dodgers over the Milwaukee Brewers 16-4 on Sunday. Pollock homered twice and doubled while Beaty went 4 for 6 and scored three times. Their slams came against Alec Bettinger (0-1), who gave up 11 runs in his big league debut after never pitching above Double-A. This was the first time in franchise history that the Dodgers had two players with at least seven RBIs in the same game. The last time it happened for any major league team was on Aug. 22, 2007, when Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Ramon Vazquez each had seven RBIs for the Texas Rangers in a 30-3 blowout of Baltimore. The last time two Dodgers hit grand slams in the same game came when Adrian Beltre and Shawn Green did it in a 12-3 victory over the Marlins on May 21, 2000. Pollock’s eight RBIs matched the highest single-game total by any player in the history... [More]

Sun Mar 28 202117:35Highly regarded prospect Jazz Chisholm wins Marlins' 2B job
MIAMI (AP) — Highly regarded prospect Jazz Chisholm was declared the winner of the spring competition for the Miami Marlins' second base job Sunday, and he'll be in the lineup on opening day. Chisholm batted .268 with three homers and four stolen bases in spring training. He was competing with Isan Diaz for the Marlins' only open everyday job, and won almost by default. Diaz went 2 for 34 and will start the season in Triple-A. Manager Don Mattingly and general manager Kim Ng told Chisholm shortly before the final spring training game that he was heading south with the team. “It feels great when everybody believes in you,” Chisholm said. “I know I already have a lot of confidence, but it gives you confidence to where it's almost cockiness.” In 2020, Miami second basemen had an OPS of .602, last in the National League. Chisholm made his big league debut in September and went 9 for 56 (.161). Chisholm, 23, came to Miami in the 2019 trade that sent pitcher Zac Gallen to Arizona. “We look at... [More]
Tue Mar 9 202102:26Arihara settles into 2nd start for Rangers, 3 solid innings
Kohei Arihara finished what he started this time. The Texas Rangers newcomer bounced back from a shaky spring training debut, pitching three solid innings Monday in a 9-0, seven-inning loss to the Chicago Cubs. Arihara retired his final seven batters, setting down Ian Happ, Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant to end his outing. Overall, he allowed a run on two singles without a strikeout or walk. Signed to a $6.2 million, two-year contract after six seasons in Japan, the 28-year-old right-hander allowed a three-run homer in the first inning of his initial spring start against the Chicago White Sox last week. He worked two innings, both of them cut short before the third out because of high pitch counts. After his three innings against the Cubs, Arihara went to the bullpen to throw additional pitches to get him up to 50 for the day. All in all, a bit different than the adrenaline and excitement of his first game against big league hitters last week. Arihara said he was just thinking about doing... [More]
Mon Mar 8 202118:26Youngsters Chisholm and Diaz battling for Marlins' 2B job
MIAMI (AP) — Highly regarded Miami Marlins prospect Jazz Chisholm calls the ballfield his “happy place,” which is why he's always in motion, bouncing about even during monotonous spring training drills. Teammates tell him to chill. “All the time. Every day,” Chisholm said with a grin. “The veterans are tired of me. They tell me to stop moving, stop singing, stop dancing. It's fun to mess with the older guys. They hate me singing and whispering in their ear.” The vets might need to get used to it. Chisholm is competing with fellow prospect Isan Diaz for the second base job, the team's only position battle this spring. The outcome will help determine whether the Marlins can generate more offense this season. In 2020, Miami second basemen had an OPS of .602, last in the National League. Chisholm made his big league debut in September and went 9 for 56 (.161), and Diaz went 4 for 22 (.182) before a groin injury ended his brief season. The hope is one of them can provide more pop this year —... [More]

Sat Sep 12 202000:02Aaron Nola's 7-inning shutout helps Phils split with Marlins
MIAMI (AP) — Aaron Nola gives his seven-inning complete game victory an asterisk. As for the doubleheader nightcap, the Philadelphia Phillies' bullpen remains a big question mark.Nola struck out 10 and went the distance for the first time in his career as Philadelphia handed the Miami Marlins their worst drubbing in two days, winning Friday's opener 11-0.The Phillies went with a bullpen game in the nightcap, and their struggling relief corps had another rocky night in a 5-3 loss. Jorge Alfaro had his fourth consecutive two-RBI game for the Marlins, who scored on three relievers.Officially, Nola's performance went in the books as a complete game.“I don’t feel like it counts,” he said. “Nine innings is a complete game. But I felt good today. I’m glad I finished it out.”With the split, the second-place Phillies remained half a game ahead of the third-place Marlins in the NL East. Miami's split came two days after they got routed 29-9 in Atlanta.GAME 1Nola (5-3) didn't allow a hit until Brian... [More]
