Sat Mar 213:22Bobby Dalbec Could Be Pushed Off The Roster
After the Boston Red Sox signed veteran first baseman C.J. Cron to a minor-league deal this week, first baseman Bobby Dalbec's spot on the roster suddenly is insecure. The 34-year-old Cron has 187 home runs in 10 career major-league seasons. Dalbec spent most of last year toiling at Triple-A Worcester and he still has a minor-league option remaining. Pablo Reyes can also play all over the infield, including at first base, where he is getting more work in spring training, so he has much more versatility than Dalbec. Triston Casas is Boston's starting first baseman after he broke out offensively in 2023. The 28-year-old Dalbec was once a former top prospect in Boston's system, but it looks like they're moving on.

Fri Feb 1612:40Bobby Dalbec Taking Outfield Reps
Boston Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec is taking reps with the outfielders in spring training on Friday. Dalbec is trying to increase his versatility heading into the 2024 regular season. Perhaps it will help him see the field more often after he played in only 21 games for Boston in his fourth year in the majors in 2023. Dalbec went 10-for-49 (.204) with a homer and six runs scored, but he looked much better at Triple-A Worcester, hitting 33 home runs and stealing 17 bases. The 28-year-old former top prospect will back up Triston Casas at first base and will primarily be a bench bat for the Red Sox at the major-league level. There's still power in Dalbec's bat, but his high strikeout rate and inability to hit righties has kept him from a starting role.

Sun Apr 9 202319:31Bobby Dalbec Expected To Join Team On Monday
Boston Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec is expected to join the team in Tampa Bay on Monday. The team hasn't made an official move yet, but the expectation is that Adam Duvall (wrist) will be placed on the injured list. The right-handed slugger suffered an injury during Sunday's game. It seems like the team is leaning towards placing Duvall on the injured list, but we'll wait and see what happens. Dalbec does have plenty of power in his bat, but doesn't offer much upside outside of that.

Mon Mar 27 202317:29Bobby Dalbec, Jorge Alfaro Optioned To Minors
Boston Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec was optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Monday. The Red Sox also sent catcher Jorge Alfaro to minor-league camp. With Dalbec starting the 2023 season in the minors, it means that infielder Yu Chang will be on the Opening Day roster as a utility infielder. Dalbec hit two home runs in spring training, but he also hit only .235 (12-for-51) with five walks and 21 strikeouts in 56 plate appearances. He has some big-time power, but he needs to start making more contact if he wants to come back up to the big leagues and stick around. The Red Sox are rolling with Triston Casas as their regular first baseman to open the 2023 campaign. Boston is going with catchers Reese McGuire and Connor Wong at the position to kick off the season.

Wed Mar 15 202300:55Bobby Dalbec Starts At Shortstop Tuesday
Boston Red Sox corner infielder Bobby Dalbec started at shortstop in Tuesday's Grapefruit game against the Tigers. Manager Alex Cora said of the 27-year-old. "I think he's a plus defender. The more we can expose him at short, second if we have a chance, we'll do that." Dalbec struggled in 2022, slashing just .215/.283/.369 with 12 home runs and 39 RBI in 353 plate appearances. He is off to a hot start this spring, but he currently is on the outside looking in for a starting role in the infield. His power potential is still there, and if he can provide defensive value at a number of positions, he may be able to work his way into the lineup. Until then, fantasy managers will have to pass on Dalbec.

Thu Sep 22 202217:06Trevor Story Lands On IL, Bobby Dalbec Recalled
The Boston Red Sox placed second baseman Trevor Story (heel) on the 10-day injured list on Thursday with a left heel contusion. The move is retroactive to Sept. 19. The Red Sox were hoping that Story could return at some point this week after getting injured on Sept. 11, but that hasn't happened. With very little time remaining in the 2022 regular season, it's very possible we won't see the 29-year-old slugger again this year. Story will be eligible to return on Sept. 29. First baseman Bobby Dalbec was recalled from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move. He was demoted to the minors after hitting .211/.282/.362 with 11 homers, 36 RBI and 113 K's in 340 plate appearances earlier this year. Christian Arroyo and Enrique Hernandez should continue splitting playing time at the keystone with Story sidelined.

Fri Aug 26 202211:22Bobby Dalbec Drives In Two In Losing Effort
Boston Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec went 1-for-4 with two RBI, a stolen base, a run scored and a strikeout in a 6-5 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday night. It was nice to see from Dalbec, who hasn't been very successful at the plate of late. The 27-year-old should see much more playing time with Eric Hosmer (back) on the injured list, but he's hitting just .205/.277/.358 on the year with 11 home runs, 34 RBI, 36 runs scored and three stolen bases in 328 plate appearances over 107 games in his third big-league season. Dalbec has gone 8-for-36 (.222) with a homer, five RBI, seven runs scored and 16 strikeouts in 14 games played in August. He's struck out eight times in his last five contests.

Thu Jul 28 202211:37Bobby Dalbec Homers Twice In Loss To Guardians
Boston Red Sox first baseman/third baseman Bobby Dalbec went 2-for-3 with two home runs, five RBI, two runs scored and a strikeout in the 7-6 loss to the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday. Dalbec is now hitting .206/.279/.370 with 10 home runs, 28 RBI, 29 runs scored and two stolen bases in 272 plate appearances over 89 games for the Red Sox this year. The 27-year-old has plenty of power to spare and has hit half of his 10 home runs in the month of July while driving in 10 runs in 19 games, but there's too much swing and miss to his game to provide fantasy managers with a reliable batting average right now.

Mon Apr 18 202209:02Bobby Dalbec Getting The Day Off Monday
Boston Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec is out of the starting lineup for Monday's game against Dylan Bundy and the Minnesota Twins. Travis Shaw is getting the start at first base for the game. Dalbec started eight of the team's first nine games of the year. He hasn't settled in at the plate yet as he's slashing .167/.242/.300 with one home run and 10 strikeouts. The 26-year-old launched 25 home runs over 133 games in 2021. He should be able to reach that home run plateau once again this year as long as he can continue to see consistent playing time.

Thu Mar 17 202220:44Bobby Dalbec Homers In Spring Opener
Boston Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Thursday's spring opener against the Minnesota Twins. It was a nice start to the spring for Dalbec who is expected to shift between second base, outfield, and first base during camp to gain some versatility. Dalbec could be a solid cheap target in the later rounds of drafts this spring as he possesses a ton of power upside in a potent lineup.

Thu Mar 17 202210:31Bobby Dalbec To See Work At 2B, Outfield
Boston Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec will get repetitions at second base and in the outfield this spring, according to manager Alex Cora. It will give Dalbec some more versatility in Boston, but he's still expected to see most of his time at first base in 2022 for the Red Sox. The 26-year-old finished with a .240/.298/.494 slash line with 25 home runs, 78 RBI and 50 runs scored in 453 plate appearances over 133 games in his second MLB season and first full season in the majors in 2021. Dalbec has elite power (20.2% barrel rate and 115.6 mph maximum exit velocity), but unless he cuts down on his strikeouts, he won't provide much batting average assistance as a fantasy asset. But there's still a lot to like about Dalbec at a cheap cost on draft day.

Fri Oct 8 202119:04Bobby Dalbec On The Bench For ALDS Game 2
Boston Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec isn't starting the second game of the American League Division Series. Dalbec started at first base and hit seventh in Game 1, going hitless in four plate appearances. The 26-year-old hit .240 with a .298 on-base percentage, 25 home runs, and two stolen bases in 453 plate appearances this season. He'll move to the bench with Kyle Schwarber getting the start at first base and J.D. Martinez entering the lineup at designated hitter. Schwarber is batting leadoff while Martinez is hitting sixth against Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Shane Baz.

Fri Oct 1 202123:37Bobby Dalbec Goes Yard Against Washington
Boston Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec hit a home run Friday, his only hit in four at-bats against the Washington Nationals in a 4-2 victory. The solo shot was his 25th of the year. Dalbec has homered 11 times in his last 30 games, slashing .281/.355/.708 in 106 plate appearances during that span. It remains to be seen whether Dalbec's second-half adjustments will carry over in 2022, but he could be blossoming into a fantasy superstar.

Sun Sep 26 202100:47Bobby Dalbec Homers Against Yankees Saturday
Boston Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec returned to the starting lineup for the first time in three days against the New York Yankees Saturday, and he went 1-for-4 with a home run. Dalbec has been the offensive leader of the team for the past few months, slashing .288/.367/.644 since the All-Star break and now has 24 homers on the season, but he still sits against some right-handed starters. He needs to be in lineups the rest of the way, but he holds the most value in leagues with daily lineup changes.

Wed Sep 22 202118:52Bobby Dalbec Absent From Wednesday's Lineup
Boston Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against Taijuan Walker and the New York Mets. Kyle Schwarber is manning first base for the game. Dalbec has been raking for nearly two months now. He slashed .339/.431/.774 with seven home runs and 21 RBI in August. Through 16 games in September, we've seen more of the same from him as he's slashed .304/.391/.696 with five home runs and 15 RBI. He has gaudy underlying power metrics, including a 19.5% barrel rate that ranks in the 98th percentile and a 92.3 mph average exit velocity that ranks in the 90th percentile. Strikeouts are still of course a problem (33.8% strikeout rate), but he's a great source of power when he's seeing regular playing time like he is right now.

Sun Sep 19 202111:11Bobby Dalbec Reaches Three Times, Drives In Two Saturday
Boston Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec reached base three more times Saturday against the Baltimore Orioles, going 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and two RBI. Dalbec is in the middle of an unreal stretch at the plate, slashing .337/.427/.842 with 12 homers over his past 30 games. He's been fortunate to face plenty of lefties in the past several weeks, leading to some bloated numbers, but the biggest factor could be that he has only struck out in 26 of his 108 plate appearances in that time. As long as he continues to make contact, he'll keep helping fantasy managers.

Fri Sep 17 202123:37Bobby Dalbec Hits 23rd Homer
Boston Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec homered yet again Friday night, continuing to turn around the narrative on his young career. He now has 23 homers on the season, as he went 1-for-3 with a walk to go with the solo shot against the Orioles. He's now homered 12 times in his last 30 games, with a .326/.415/.837 slash line in that span. Fantasy managers who had faith in Dalbec are being rewarded, as he's among the hottest hitters in the league right now and simply must be in lineups down the stretch of the fantasy season. He's also significantly raising his profile for 2022, as he must be in the conversation as a top-10 to top-15 first baseman.

Thu Sep 16 202100:12Bobby Dalbec Swipes A Bag Wednesday
Boston Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec didn't homer for once Wednesday, going 1-for-3 with two walks and a lucky double against the Seattle Mariners. He did steal a base, swiping second in the second inning for his second theft of the year. Fantasy managers are already thrilled with Dalbec's power surge, but to contribute in the speed game would raise his value significantly. He'll be in the lineup plenty this week for favorable matchups, but with just those two career steals, fantasy managers shouldn't hold their breath for any further burglary.

Wed Sep 15 202112:17Bobby Dalbec Goes Deep Again Tuesday
Boston Red Sox first baseman Bobby Dalbec continued his torrid stretch Tuesday night, going 1-for-3 with a solo home run, his 22nd of the season. Dalbec has a very favorable set of matchups this week, with five more left-handed starters scheduled to come his way. He's slashing .277/.323/.516 against lefties this year. Fantasy managers who were savvy enough to add Dalbec need to keep him active all week, despite the fact that he may be removed for pinch-hitters when right-handed relievers enter the game.

Mon Sep 13 202121:33Bobby Dalbec Not In Monday's Lineup
Boston Red Sox infielder Bobby Dalbec is absent from Monday's lineup to take on the Seattle Mariners, according to MLB.com. Dalbec has had a decent first full season in the big leagues, slashing .241/.297/.483 with 21 HRs, 71 RBI, and 44 runs over 119 games. He's been on a tear since the beginning of August, posting a 1.110 OPS with 10 HRs. If he hasn't been scooped up off the waiver wire by now, any fantasy manager looking for first base help should strongly consider picking him up. With Dalbec on the bench, Schwarber will shift to first, Kike Hernandez will move to the outfield and Jose Iglesias will play second. Iglesias isn't much of a streaming option, batting .261 with eight home runs and just a .374 slugging.
