Thu Mar 2109:55Jake Cronenworth Racks Up Four Hits In Victory
San Diego Padres first baseman Jake Cronenworth went 4-for-4 with four RBI and a triple in Thursday's victory versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. He also scored two runs on the day. Cronenworth is coming off a down season in 2023 that saw him hit his fewest home runs (10) since his debut in 2020 and his lowest batting average of .229. Despite a rough 2023, Cronenworth is back at it at first base for the Padres and has been in the third spot for San Diego. He is in the perfect spot of the lineup in between Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado and should see plenty of pitches to hit this upcoming season. After just one rocky season, his ADP dropped 287 and he could be a bargain at the value in deeper leagues.

Fri Feb 2301:22Jake Cronenworth Homers In Spring Opener
San Diego Padres first baseman Jake Cronenworth went 1-for-2 with a solo homer during Thursday's Spring Training opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Padres fell behind early and never came back, dropping the first game of Cactus League play by a score of 14-1. Cronenworth took a step back offensively in 2023 with a .229/.312/.378 slash line and just 10 homers, but his history as a fringe above-average player at the plate and in the field is just enough to suggest that last year may have been a fluke. He'll look to re-assert himself this spring, and Thursday's solo shot certainly helped.

Wed Dec 6 202313:21Jake Cronenworth Another Trade Candidate For Padres
The San Diego Padres are getting close to trading superstar outfielder Juan Soto to the New York Yankees, but infielder Jake Cronenworth is another trade candidate for the Padres this offseason. His seven-year, $80 million contract extension starts in 2024. However, Cronenworth has an eight-team no-trade clause that kicked in this offseason, which could make dealing him more difficult. The 29-year-old had a down year in 2023 after making the All-Star team in 2021 and 2022. Cronenworth finished on the injured list due to a fractured right wrist and hit just .229 (105-for-458) with 10 home runs, 24 doubles, seven triples, 48 RBI, six stolen bases and 54 runs scored in 127 games played. He should be ready in time for the start of the 2024 campaign, but his fantasy stock is down considerably going into next season.

Tue Aug 29 202321:47Jake Cronenworth Likely To Avoid Surgery
San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth (wrist) likely won't need surgery to repair a right wrist fracture that he sustained late last week on a hit by pitch. Still, the 29-year-old will be down for a bit, and there's a chance he won't return from the injured list by the end of the season. It's been a wash of a year for Cronenworth, who's slashing .229/.312/.378 with 10 home runs, 54 runs, 48 RBI, and six steals across 127 games. Fantasy managers still rostering the two-time All-Star should drop him in all formats.

Sat Aug 26 202316:41Jake Cronenworth Placed On 10-Day Injured List
San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth (wrist) has been placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday. This news comes after Cronenworth was hit by a pitch during Friday's game. The left-handed slugger suffered a right wrist fracture during that incident. The Padres haven't given a timetable for his return, but this could be the type of injury that ends Cronenworth's season. The 29-year-old is slashing .229/.312/.378 with 10 homers and 48 RBI in 124 games. The Padres have recalled infielder Matthew Batten to take the spot on the active roster.

Fri Aug 25 202323:03Jake Cronenworth Leaves After Hit By Pitch
San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth (wrist) left Friday night's game against the Milwaukee Brewers in the top of the ninth inning after he was hit by a pitch in his right wrist area. He was replaced by Jose Azocar, who entered as a pinch-runner. Before leaving early, Cronenworth had gone 1-for-3 in the eventual 7-3 loss. This didn't look good for the 29-year-old left-handed hitter, and he was in a considerable amount of pain before walking off the field. Cronenworth is highly unlikely to be in Saturday's lineup, and fantasy managers may want to prepare for an extended absence, depending on what tests show on his wrist. If Cronenworth is forced to the injured list because of this injury, Garrett Cooper would see more starts at first base in San Diego. Cronenworth entered Friday's game with a disappointing .229 average with just 10 homers and six steals in 2023.

Tue Jul 25 202318:57Jake Cronenworth To Sit Out Versus Lefty
San Diego Padres first baseman Jake Cronenworth is out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The left-handed slugger will sit this game out with lefty Rich Hill on the mound for the Pirates. Matthew Batten will draw the start at first base and bat eighth during Tuesday's game. It's not shocking to see the Padres going with a platoon matchup here. Cronenworth is slashing .208/.302/.355 with eight homers, 38 RBI in 97 games this season.

Thu Jun 15 202318:39Jake Cronenworth, Gary Sanchez Absent From Lineup On Thursday
San Diego Padres first baseman Jake Cronenworth and catcher Gary Sanchez are not in the lineup on Thursday versus the Cleveland Guardians. Brandon Dixon is manning the cold corner and batting seventh while Austin Nola takes over behind the plate and is hitting ninth for this one. Cronenworth is percolating with a 9-for-24 stretch and a homer over his last six games, so fantasy managers hope to see the two-time All-Star back in the fold come Friday. Sanchez has looked revived in San Diego, hitting .240 with six long balls and 15 RBI across 50 at-bats with the Padres. Fantasy managers should expect the former Silver Slugger to re-enter the mix on Friday, as well.

Mon May 15 202318:12Jake Cronenworth Moves Back Into Two-Hole Monday
San Diego Padres first baseman Jake Cronenworth will move back into the two-hole when he takes on the Kansas City Royals and right-hander Brad Keller Monday night. Hitting second isn't entirely new to the 29-year-old as he made four consecutive starts in that spot before hitting sixth and fifth over his last two contests. It's been an uneven start to the season for Cronenworth as he's hitting just .216 with three homers in 40 contests but a hearty 12.7% BB% has boosted his OPS to a palatable .694 mark. However, he is striking out at a career-worst 20.5% mark so far while his 97 wRC+ pegs his bat 3% below the league average overall. He has a nice opportunity to get back on track against Keller who owns a 6.19 SIERA and a -1.7% K-BB% on the campaign.

Fri Apr 14 202318:46Jake Cronenworth Sitting On Friday
San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth (rest) is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. The 29-year-old appears to be getting a routine day off on Friday. He has struggled with the bat, so he could certainly use a day off to try and get back in a groove. Through 14 games, Cronenworth is hitting .196 with one home run and two RBI. Brandon Dixon will cover first base and bat seventh against lefty Eric Lauer on Friday.

Fri Apr 7 202300:47Jake Cronenworth Pops First Homer Thursday
San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth hit his first home run of the season on Thursday in a 7-6 loss to the Atlanta Braves. Cronenworth went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks in the contest while managing to cross the plate three times and delivering an RBI. The lefty appears to be heating up, going 4-for-6 with three extra-base hits in his last two games after a sluggish start where he managed just one hit in his first 17 at-bats. Currently hitting fifth in a stacked Padres lineup, Crone-zone has a chance to put up monster counting stats this season. That combined with his multi-eligibility could make for a nice fantasy asset.

Sat Apr 1 202310:38Jake Cronenworth, Padres Agree To Extension
San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth agreed to a seven-year, $80 million extension with the team. The deal starts in 2024 and will keep him in San Diego until the completion of the 2030 season. The 29-year-old has posted a .256/.337/.431 slash line in 366 career games with the Padres. His versatility allows him to handle multiple areas in the infield, although he's been spending time at first base. Cronenworth had also played at least 152 games in each of his last two seasons, which is always a plus for fantasy managers.

Sat Jan 14 202312:20Jake Cronenworth Settles For $4.25 Million
The San Diego Padres and infielder Jake Cronenworth avoided salary arbitration on Friday by agreeing to a one-year, $4.25 million deal. Cronenworth is coming off back-to-back All-Star nods for the Friars. He finished up his third MLB season with a .239/.332/.390 slash line with a career-low .722 OPS, 17 home runs, a career-high 88 RBI, 88 runs scored and three stolen bases in 684 plate appearances and 158 games. The 28-year-old has some decent power at the second base position and resides in one of the best lineups in baseball. He'll also be the team's primary first baseman in 2023, so he'll add some positional flexibility to his fantasy profile. Cronenworth is ranked just inside the top 20 second basemen at RotoBaller.

Sun Oct 16 202212:33Jake Cronenworth Drives Home Two Runs In Saturday's Victory
San Diego Padres second baseman Jake Cronenworth helped lead the Padres to the National League Championship Series when he went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the 5-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the Division Series 3-1. The 28-year-old's hitting .241 with a lowly .586 OPS across seven postseason games thus far but does have five RBI and a home run. Cronenworth had an unspectacular though acceptable 2022 season in which he hit .240 with 17 HRs, 88 runs, 88 RBI, and three stolen bases over 158 games. He'll try to heat up and keep the run production going in the next series when the Padres take on the Philadelphia Phillies.

Wed Aug 17 202221:36Jake Cronenworth Crushes Grand Slam In Wednesday's Victory
San Diego Padres second baseman Jake Cronenworth cleared the bases with a grand slam in the first inning of Wednesday's 10-3 defeat of the Miami Marlins. He added a single and a walk later in the contest, making him 2-for-4 on the day. Cronenworth is having a competent season with the bat, slashing .239/.343/.387 with 12 HRs, but has an excellent 72 runs and 63 RBI over 117 games. However, after new additions at the trade deadline, he's been bumped down in the lineup so run production may be harder to come by. With limited batting average and power, it's hard to justify starting him if the counting stats aren't there.

Thu Aug 4 202215:59Jake Cronenworth Sitting Against A Lefty
San Diego Padres second baseman Jake Cronenworth is not in the starting lineup on Thursday against Colorado Rockies left-hander Kyle Freeland. Cronenworth has been on a recent tear at the plate and is now slashing .244/.348/.402 with 11 home runs, 55 RBI, 68 runs scored and one stolen base in 393 at-bats after homering in the 9-1 win over the Rockies on Wednesday night. New acquisition Brandon Drury, who clubbed a grand slam in the first pitch he saw in a Padres uniform on Wednesday, is starting at second base and is batting fifth against Freeland. Drury is having a career year with a .275 average and 21 home runs in 93 games in 2022, and he's been great against southpaws, going 30-for-97 (.309) with nine of his 21 home runs against them.

Thu Aug 4 202213:48Jake Cronenworth Homers, Drives In Three
San Diego Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth may no longer be among the top names in his own lineup anymore, but on Wednesday night he showed why he was an All-Star selection this year, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a hit-by-pitch, three RBI, and two runs scored. Cronenworth should be in great position for even more counting stats going forward in a stacked lineup, and fantasy managers can expect him to build on his .750 OPS, 11 homers, 68 runs scored, 55 RBI, and one stolen base from here.

Thu Jun 23 202218:22Jake Cronenworth Sitting Against Lefty
San Diego Padres second baseman Jake Cronenworth is not in the starting lineup on Thursday against Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Ranger Suarez. It's just the second day off of the season for Cronenworth, who has been red-hot in the month of June with a .337/.436/.593 slash line, a 1.029 OPS, four home runs, 22 RBI, 20 runs scored and a stolen base in 22 games. It has raised his season line to .250/.341/.408 with seven home runs, 41 RBI, 45 runs scored and one stolen base in 317 plate appearances. C.J. Abrams will play second base and hit eighth on Thursday for the Friars against Suarez. Those looking for a deep sleeper in DFS should look elsewhere, as Abrams has looked overmatched at the plate so far in the big leagues with just 12 hits and one home run in his first 65 at-bats.

Mon May 30 202220:55Jake Cronenworth Collects Two Hits Monday
San Diego Padres second baseman Jake Cronenworth picked up a pair of hits in Monday's 6-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. He doubled, scored a run, and struck out once. Cronenworth's having a poor offensive season after two productive campaigns to begin his career. Over 47 games, he's slashing .213/.297/.328 with three home runs, 19 RBI, 25 runs, and no stolen bases. Besides Monday's contest, Cronenworth's showing no signs of heating up, as he's hit .212 across his last 15 contests. In shallower leagues, fantasy managers can feel safe letting go of the 28-year-old.

Thu May 19 202211:36Jake Cronenworth Taking The Day Off
San Diego Padres second baseman Jake Cronenworth is taking the day off on Thursday in the series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies. It will be his first game off of the season. The 28-year-old has gone 4-for-28 in his last six games, so it's a good time for his first day off. Cronenworth has had a tough start to the 2022 campaign, slashing just .206/.301/.319 with two home runs, 15 RBI and 18 runs scored in 37 games played. Veteran Robinson Cano will get the start at the keystone and will bat sixth on Thursday against Phillies right-hander Kyle Gibson. Cano is 2-for-9 with a strikeout in his first two games with the Friars and was hitting .195 with a homer and three RBI in 12 games with the New York Mets earlier this year before he was released.
