Sat Apr 2022:51Kutter Crawford Picks Up First Win In 2024
Boston Red Sox right-hander Kutter Crawford (1-0) allowed one run on three walks while striking out six over six innings in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. He picked up his first win of the season. The 28-year-old was sharp in Saturday's victory, throwing 68 strikes on 100 pitches. He drew 17 swings and misses, which was a season-best. Crawford has yielded only one run or less over five starts this season. He owns a dazzling 0.68 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and 30 strikeouts over 27 1/3 innings in 2024. Crawford will look to build on his strong start to the season in his next start on Friday against the Chicago Cubs.

Wed Apr 1014:09Kutter Crawford Looking To Keep Rolling Wednesday
Boston Red Sox right-hander Kutter Crawford will look to keep up the good work as he takes on the visiting Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday. The 28-year-old earned a rotation spot out of spring training and has worked 10 1/2 innings while allowing two runs (one earned) on just five hits with 12 strikeouts against four walks in that time. He went six scoreless frames in his season debut in Seattle on March 30 before going 4/2 innings with one run allowed at the Angels in his last start but his three walks elevated his pitch count early. Crawford posted a solid 4.04 ERA alongside a strong 18.8% K-BB% across 31 appearances (23 starts) with the Sox in the 2023 campaign. His fantasy value is certainly on the rise, especially if he can maintain big strikeout numbers as he did consistently in the minors.

Wed Mar 2009:45Kutter Crawford Continues Dominant Spring
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Kutter Crawford continued his strong spring with another good outing against the Tampa Bay Rays in Grapefruit action on Tuesday. The right-hander went 5 2/3 innings and allowed four hits, two runs, no walks and recorded six strikeouts. The 27-year-old has seen his value rise as Opening Day approaches with his shiny 1.98 ERA and 13 K's to go along with no walks in four starts. Crawford was good down the stretch for the BoSox in 2023 and that has carried over to this spring. Crawford has an ADP of 245, but that should continue to rise after another strong performance. In deeper leagues, Crawford is worth taking ahead of his ADP as he has strong potential to outplay that value.

Mon Mar 408:35Kutter Crawford Continues To Earn Rotation Spot
Boston Red Sox starting pitching Kutter Crawford put together another impressive outing in a Grapefruit League matchup versus the Toronto Blue Jays. Crawford went three scoreless innings and allowed two hits with no walks and four strikeouts. In 31 games (23 starts) this past season, Crawford showed serious upside and pitched to 4.04 ERA with 135 strikeouts in 129 1/3 innings. The 27-year-old impressed down the stretch and manager Alex Cora alluded to him likely earning an Opening Day spot in the rotation. Crawford will be battling Josh Winckowski, Garrett Whitlock and Tanner Houck for one of the two open spots, but it looks like it's his job to lose and with two strong showings thus far. With a splitter now in his arsenal, a strong finish to 2023 and two dominant performances in spring thus far, Crawford is an intriguing pick later in drafts for this upcoming season.

Sat Feb 2412:33Kutter Crawford "In The Lead" For Rotation Spot
Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that as of Saturday, right-hander Kutter Crawford is "in the lead" for a spot in the Opening Day starting rotation behind Lucas Giolito, Nick Pivetta and Brayan Bello. Garrett Whitlock, Tanner Houck and Josh Winckowski are fighting for the final spot in Boston's rotation. Crawford has been working on a split-finger fastball this year, which could make him even more effective in a starting role. The 27-year-old opened last year in the rotation as well before eventually moving to the bullpen. He had a 4.20 ERA (3.64 FIP) in 21 starts for Boston last year. Crawford has a deep arsenal and a fastball that generates a lot of swings and misses. He's a pitcher on the rise and a name to keep an eye on in deep-mixed leagues early in the season.

Sun Feb 1812:26Kutter Crawford Working On Splitter
Boston Red Sox right-hander Kutter Crawford is working on a split-finger fastball in spring training that he's hoping will better complement his existing arsenal. "All my stuff is moving glove side, away from righties and into lefties. The splitter would open up the other side of the plate," Crawford said. The 27-year-old began eventually settled into Boston's starting rotation in 2023, ultimately finishing 6-8 with a 4.04 ERA (3.83 FIP) and 1.11 WHIP with 36 walks and a career-high 135 strikeouts in 129 1/3 innings over 31 appearances (23 starts). He's locked into a rotation spot to open the 2024 season again and has intriguing strikeout upside. Crawford's biggest issue will be keeping the ball in the ballpark in a hitter-friendly home ballpark, but he's absolutely worth a late-round flier in fantasy drafts with his stock on the rise.

Sat Sep 30 202311:14Kutter Crawford Seeks Improvement Against Orioles
Boston Red Sox right-hander Kutter Crawford entered the fantasy conversation when he joined the team's rotation earlier this summer. The swingman will try leave one lasting impression in his new role during Saturday's start against the Baltimore Orioles. Let's just say the figures haven't been pretty for Crawford versus the O's in the past; he's been slammed for 11 runs (four homers) in just 3 2/3 innings of work. It sounds like a shy-away scenario for fantasy managers searching for a late-week pitching streamer, as the 27-year-old looks best suited on benches under most circumstances.

Mon Aug 14 202314:07Kutter Crawford Fans Two In No-Decision Sunday
Boston Red Sox right-hander Kutter Crawford picked up a no-decision in Sunday's 6-3 win over the visiting Detroit Tigers on Sunday. In the outing, Crawford allowed only two earned runs on three hits (one homer) while walking one and striking out two in 4 2/3 innings of work. Length has been an issue for the 27-year-old, as he hasn't gone beyond the fifth inning in any of his last five starts despite pitching well during that span. Since July 21, Crawford has a 3.97 ERA (4.55 FIP), five walks and 22 strikeouts in 22 2/3 frames in five starts. In his third year in the big leagues, Crawford has gone 5-6 with a career-best 3.80 ERA (4.18 FIP), 1.13 WHIP, 22 walks and 89 strikeouts in 90 innings over 23 appearances (15 starts).

Sun Jun 11 202309:53Kutter Crawford To Stick In The Rotation
Boston Red Sox right-handed pitcher Kutter Crawford will remain a part of the team's starting rotation going forward. Boston turns to a six-man rotation with Chris Sale (shoulder) on the 60-day IL and several swingmen in their pitching staff. It puts Crawford on the deep-league radar with room to grow, holding a decent 3.68 ERA and 1.01 WHIP plus 36 strikeouts over 36 2/3 innings this season. It may not be long before the 27-year-old is fully stretched out, either, as he withstood 6 1/3 innings back on April 17. Crawford possesses a superb 4.1% walk rate to go with a soft 85.7% average exit velocity against. The righty leads all starting pitchers with 62 chases over their last 300 pitches. Crawford is positioned to deal to the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, when he will denote a very plausible streaming option.

Sat May 6 202311:21Kutter Crawford Placed On 15-Day IL
Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Kutter Crawford (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day injured list on Friday, retroactive to May 4. The 27-year-old exited Wednesday's meeting against the Toronto Blue Jays because of hamstring tightness after going just 1 1/3 innings. Skipper Alex Cora was optimistic the righty wouldn't require a stint on the IL. However, that's not the case. Kutter has earned a few starts in 2023, amassing a 1-1 record. He also has a 3.51 ERA in seven appearances with 24 strikeouts and three walks. Fortunately, the injury is described as "mild," although the team will surely play it safe. In a corresponding move, Kaleb Ort was recalled from Triple-A.

Fri May 5 202308:44Kutter Crawford Day-To-Day With Hamstring Tightness
Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters on Thursday that right-hander Kutter Crawford (hamstring) is day-to-day with left hamstring tightness. The 27-year-old had to leave his Wednesday appearance prematurely, but that was just a precaution with the club hoping he can avoid the injured list. Crawford owns a 3.51 ERA, 23.5% strikeout rate, 2.9% walk rate, and 0.94 WHIP over 25.2 innings and two starts this season. The Sox don't have room for the third-year player in their rotation at the moment, so fantasy managers can expect him to remain in the bullpen. Almost all of Crawford's value comes in dynasty formats, as he should eventually get a shot to start long-term.

Thu Mar 23 202316:15Kutter Crawford Wins Rotation Spot
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Kutter Crawford will be the fourth starter for the team to begin the season. James Paxton (forearm), Brayan Bello (forearm) and Garrett Whitlock (hip) won't be ready to begin the season, so Crawford will fill in one of the last spots for a few starts to open the year. He could be moved to the bullpen as soon as April, however, as the trio of starters isn't expected to miss much time. Crawford has struck out 14 in 13 1/3 innings this spring with just three walks and a 2.03 ERA.

Tue Sep 6 202211:21Kutter Crawford Could Return Soon
Boston Red Sox right-hander Kutter Crawford (shoulder) was scratched from his start on Sept. 4 and went on the injured list with a right shoulder impingement. He has gone 3-6 with a 5.47 ERA (4.34 FIP), a 1.42 WHIP, 77 strikeouts and 29 walks in 77 1/3 innings in 21 appearances (12 starts) in his first full major league season. The good news is the team expects him back soon. "We feel like he'll be right back as soon as he is eligible to come off the IL," said manager Alex Cora. Josh Winckowski took Crawford's start on Sunday, but it remains to be seen if Crawford will return to the starting rotation when he's activated from the injured list.
