The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed pitcher Nabil Crismatt and outfielder Travis Swaggerty to minor-league contracts. Crismatt, 28, got into eight big-league games between the Padres and D-backs in the 2023 season, allowing 12 earned runs, three home runs, and seven walks against 12 strikeouts in 13 innings of work. That said, the right-hander was largely very good from 2020-22 and owns a career 3.76 ERA across 109 big-league outings. Swaggerty, 26, didn't appear in the big leagues in 2023 and has just five MLB appearances under his belt, all coming in the 2022 season. He appeared in just 22 minor-league games in the Pirates' organization last season before being released and signing a minor-league deal with the White Sox.

Wed May 12 202101:06Padres' Tatis, Myers test positive for virus; 3 others out
DENVER (AP) — San Diego star Fernando Tatis Jr. and outfielder Wil Myers have tested positive for COVID-19 while first baseman Eric Hosmer and two backups are now out for contact tracing, leaving the Padres shorthanded at Coors Field. Padres manager Jayce Tingler said he hoped the fallout from the virus would stop and anticipated San Diego could play a doubleheader as scheduled Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies. Hosmer and Myers both were pulled out in the middle of the Padres' 8-1 win over the Rockies on Tuesday night. “Wil tested positive for COVID and that’s why he had to leave the game," Tingler said. Hosmer exited in accordance with Major League Baseball's health and safety protocols. “Obviously it’s not ideal but I want to give credit to our guys tonight. We had a lot of hectic things going on. We had a short bench and everybody stepped up and filled in," Tingler said. The Padres also were missing infielder-outfielders Jurickson Profar and Jorge Mateo. Tingler said he learned... [More]
Tue May 11 202122:06Padres star Tatis tests positive for virus, on injured list
DENVER (AP) — San Diego star Fernando Tatis Jr. has tested positive for COVID-19 and was put on the injured list Tuesday, along with two teammates. Padres manager Jayce Tingler said he learned of Tatis’ positive test in a phone call late Monday night. Tingler said the 22-year-old shortstop was symptom-free at the moment, and there is no exact timetable for his return. “Naturally, you’re punched in the stomach a little bit,” Tingler said before a game at Colorado. “You first of all want to make sure, certainly for Tatis in this situation, is he feeling OK? And it was good to kind of see him over Facetime, and he’s feeling well. I mean he is crushed, he’s crushed inside, mentally, things like that. “At the same time, for our guys here, we have a chance to pick him up. We’ve got a chance to pick it up up a little bit. We’re coming off a fairly decent offensive game. Look, it’s a blow, but we’ve got the guys. It’s not going to be one guy having to carry a lot of things. It’s going to be a lot... [More]

Fri Apr 23 202101:30Padres edge Dodgers 3-2 to open key NL West series
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jurickson Profar singled and scored the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning, and the San Diego Padres opened the second series of the season in Southern California’s lively baseball rivalry with a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday night. Trent Grisham homered and had two hits for the Padres, who snapped a three-game skid as they opened a four-game series at chilly Chavez Ravine with the Dodgers’ first home loss of the season. Los Angeles took two of three in San Diego last weekend, but the Padres answered with timely hits, strong pitching and a fantastic inning-ending double play in the eighth, capping yet another well-played matchup between two stacked rosters. AJ Pollock and Sheldon Neuse hit back-to-back homers leading off the seventh for the major league-leading Dodgers, who have lost three of four after a 13-2 start to the season. With several key hitters injured, Los Angeles has scored just 10 runs in its last five games. Profar and Victor Caratini... [More]
Thu Apr 22 202121:30Padres place starter Lamet, reliever Kela on injured list
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The San Diego Padres placed right-hander Dinelson Lamet on the 10-day injured list with right forearm inflammation on Thursday, a day after he came out of his season debut after just two innings. The Padres also placed reliever Keone Kela on the IL with right shoulder inflammation. Manager Jayce Tingler said Lamet "feels very, very good. We’ve had some good signs there going forward.” The manager said there was a chance Lamet will be activated when he's eligible. Lamet's quick exit after throwing just 29 pitches in two scoreless innings was startling. He had been brought along slowly after leaving his final regular-season start of 2020 due to elbow discomfort and then missing the playoffs. He received multiple opinions that surgery wasn’t needed and underwent platelet-rich plasma therapy in the offseason. Lamet had Tommy John surgery in 2018 and didn't return until the second half of 2019. Tingler said Wednesday that Lamet would likely have an MRI on Thursday. He said... [More]
Wed Apr 14 202101:50Red Sox top Twins in snowy game delayed after Minn. shooting
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Rafael Devers homered for the fourth straight game and the streaking Boston Red Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 4-2 on a snowy Tuesday in a series opener moved back following the fatal police shooting of a Black man in a nearby suburb. Hunter Renfroe hit a solo homer and Bobby Dalbec added a pair of RBI doubles as Boston won its seventh in a row after losing its first three games of the season. Monday’s game was postponed due to safety and sensitivity concerns in the Twin Cities after the police shooting a day earlier of Daunte Wright during a traffic stop. The Twins held a moment of silence for Wright prior to Tuesday’s game. Snow flurries fell for most of the game and it was 33 degrees for the first pitch. That made for the third-coldest start at Target Field, the record being 27 degrees on April 7, 2018. Adam Ottavino (1-0) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief. Matt Barnes pitched a perfect ninth for his first save of the season. Randy Dobnak (0-2) took the... [More]

Mon Sep 21 202018:43Cardinals activate Fowler, Gallegos from injured list for KC
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals activated outfielder Dexter Fowler and right-hander Giovanny Gallegos from the injured list in a series of roster moves before starting their three-game series against the Kansas City Royals on Monday night. The Cardinals also optioned outfielder Justin Williams and right-hander Nabil Crismatt to their alternate training site and designated right-hander Roel Ramirez for assignment. Fowler was tied for the team lead with four homers and had 18 RBIs when he was placed on the injured list Sept. 2 to deal with a stomach ailment. The three-week shutdown allowed him to complete a medication regimen that would have made him more vulnerable to the coronavirus should he become exposed. Gallegos missed the minimum 10 days with a groin injury. He is 4 for 4 in save opportunities with a 3.97 ERA, and he is likely to share closing duties with Andrew Miller, who has been holding down the ninth inning in his absence. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
