Santiago was checked by the umpires as he exited in the fifth inning. His glove was confiscated, and it was later announced that Santiago had been ejected. Crew chief Tom Hallion told a pool reporter that Santiago was ejected for “having a foreign substance that was sticky on the inside palm of his glove.” The 33-year-old left-hander said what the umpires found was a combination of rosin and sweat. Taylor Trammell homered twice for Seattle in the resumption of Saturday’s suspended game. Paul Sewald (5-2) got one out for the win, and Kendall Graveman worked the ninth for his seventh save. The White Sox rebounded in the scheduled series finale, winning 7-5 behind Zack Collins’ four RBIs. Aaron Bummer (1-4) pitched an inning for the win, and Liam Hendriks got two outs... [More]

Sat May 22 202121:13Mariners reinstate Dugger, Misiewicz from COVID injured list
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Right-hander Robert Dugger and left-hander Anthony Misiewicz were reinstated by the Seattle Mariners on Saturday, one day after they and two other relievers were placed on the COVID-19 injured list when the team reported a positive case in its traveling party. “We're fortunate to get those guys back in our bullpen. We'll probably need them tonight," manager Scott Servais said before Saturday's game against the San Diego Padres. The Mariners lost the series opener 16-1 on Friday night. "Obviously with the COVID issues we had yesterday, those guys have received vaccinations so they had to be out a day to make sure they were good. That test came back negative so they're good to go and join our club. “Again, every situation is a little bit different on the contact tracing and where guys are at, if they've been vaccinated or not. We were hoping they would be OK and we're lucky to have them back.” Servais said the whole team was tested Friday and again Saturday and hasn't had... [More]
Fri May 21 202121:32Positive test leads Mariners to place 4 on COVID-19 IL
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Four Seattle relievers were placed on the COVID-19 injured list Friday after the Mariners reported a positive test within the team. The Mariners did not identify who tested positive. Those placed on the IL were right-handers Robert Dugger, Will Vest and Drew Steckenrider, and left-hander Anthony Misiewicz. “The No. 1 priority obviously is the health and safety of our players and everybody understanding the importance of getting vaccinated," manager Scott Servais said before the opener of a three-game series with the San Diego Padres. “But it is an individual choice and unfortunately not all of our guys are vaccinated, so it’s something we have to deal with like other teams have had to deal with throughout Major League Baseball. “It’s real, it’s out there, it is affecting our roster and we’ll try to deal with it as best we can.” Servais said he told his players several weeks ago that “you may not be positive but the fact that you maybe were in close contact with that person... Fri Feb 19 202121:13Mariners finalize $7M, 2-year deal with reliever Ken Giles
Ken Giles knows the upcoming season will be all about patience. There is no need to rush his recovery since the Seattle Mariners won't even consider allowing him to see the majors this year. “I would love to be out there this year. But you know what? It’s not going to do me any good, it’s not going to do the organization any good,” Giles said. “As long as I stay patient through my process, I’ve already come to the realization I’m not going to pitch this year and that’s OK.” The Mariners finalized a $7 million, two-year contract with Giles on Friday that includes a $500,000 signing bonus payable within 30 days and salaries of $1 million this year and $5 million in 2022. Seattle has a $9.5 million option for 2023 with a $500,000 buyout. Seattle signed Giles knowing he won’t pitch for the Mariners until 2022 while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
