Sun Aug 15 202110:53Cubs Activate Jason Heyward, Demote Greg Deichmann
Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward (finger) has been activated from the 10-day injured list. Heyward was placed on the injured list on August 6 with left index finger inflammation, but the veteran didn't miss too much time and is ready to rock and roll on Sunday afternoon. Heyward is one of the few veterans left on the rebuilding Cubs roster and has had a dismal season at the plate with a .198 batting average to go along with six home runs and 22 RBI. Despite the weak stats, he is a favorite of manager David Ross and is likely to get a fair amount of playing time throughout the rest of the season. To make room on the roster for Heyward, the Cubs have demoted rookie outfielder Greg Deichmann. Deichmann was acquired from the Oakland Athletics for relief pitcher Andrew Chafin on July 26 and has struggled since his promotion to the Cubs on August 6. Deichmann was just 4-for-23 with one RBI during his brief stint and both him and Heyward should be avoided in all formats.

Fri Aug 6 202115:24Jason Heyward Placed On Injured List, Greg Deichmann Called Up
Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward (finger) has been placed on the 10-day injured list with left index finger inflammation. Heyward is one of the few veterans left on the Cubs current roster, but has been having a rough season at the plate. The outfielder is hitting a dismal .198 with six home runs and 22 RBI in 83 games. Even when healthy, Heyward should be avoided in all formats. Outfield prospect Greg Deichmann will replace Heyward on the active roster and will make his big-league debut on Friday versus the Chicago White Sox. Deichmann was acquired from the Oakland Athletics for relief pitcher Andrew Chafin on July 26. Deichmann was hitting .291 with four home runs and 36 RBI between Triple-A Las Vegas and Triple-A Iowa and should see a fair amount of playing time with the Cubs transitioning to a rebuild in the second half. Deichmann can be left on the waiver wire for now.

The deal was announced following their 6-5 win over Cincinnati and could signal more moves to come from Chicago. The Cubs received outfielder Greg Deichmann and right-hander Daniel Palencia. Also, Chicago is to send Oakland $500,000 to cover the cost of Chafin's contract buyout, conditioned to the pitcher's 2022 option not being declined. Oakland is in second place in the AL West and holds the league's second wild-card spot by one game over Seattle. The A's are five games behind first-place Houston. The disappointing Cubs are fourth in the NL Central at 50-51 and could be very busy before Friday's trade deadline, with star players such as Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Javier Báez and Craig Kimbrel all attractive pieces potentially...
