Mon Mar 418:54Ian Anderson On Track In Recovery
Despite the fact that the Atlanta Braves optioned right-hander Ian Anderson (elbow) to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday, the 25-year-old remains on track in his recovery from Tommy John surgery last April and has been throwing long toss from 120 feet in camp. He's hoping to be an option for Atlanta's starting rotation around the All-Star break. The former first-rounder in 2016 went 12-7 with a 3.25 ERA and 1.20 WHIP with 165 K's in 30 starts in 2020-21 before recording a 5.00 ERA in 2022 and being sent to the minors, where he injured his oblique. It remains to be seen if Anderson can return to his pre-injury level, when he was named the team's organizational Pitcher of the Year in 2019 with 172 K's in 135 2/3 innings. Anderson has slightly altered his straight over-the-top pitching motion and is using his legs more to put less stress on his arm.

Fri Feb 2316:35Brian Anderson, Trevor Kelley Sign Minors Deals With Mariners
The Seattle Mariners signed free-agent infielder Brian Anderson and right-hander Trevor Kelley to minor-league deals on Friday, according to sources. Both players will receive invites to major-league spring training. The 30-year-old Anderson really struggled in 96 games for the Milwaukee Brewers last year, slashing .226/.310/.368 with nine home runs, 40 RBI and 38 runs scored in 361 trips to the plate before being released after the season. If he makes Seattle's roster, he'll probably serve in a backup or platoon role at third base, at best, with Luis Urias. Kelley, 31, will be looking to serve as relief depth for the Mariners, but he's unlikely to make the big-league roster out of camp. Kelley has a career 6.75 ERA and 1.56 WHIP with 45 strikeouts in 50 2/3 innings in four major-league seasons.

Tue Feb 2016:33Ian Anderson Aiming To Return Around Mid-Summer
Atlanta Braves right-hander Ian Anderson (elbow) said he feels great in his Tommy John surgery rehab and is aiming to return around mid-summer, but he's not putting a specific timeline on his return. Anderson said he's made a slight adjustment in his delivery and has dropped his arm angle a bit. The 25-year-old former first-rounder had a 5.00 ERA and 1.51 WHIP in 22 starts for the Braves in 2022 and didn't pitch at all in the big leagues last year due to his elbow surgery. The Braves aren't giving up on him just yet, though, after he looked decent in his first two big-league seasons in a starting role. Anderson will be on an innings limit when he returns this summer and can most likely be avoided in all mixed fantasy leagues until 2025.

Tue Apr 11 202312:34Ian Anderson To Have Tommy John Surgery
Atlanta Braves right-hander Ian Anderson (elbow) will have Tommy John surgery, according to sources. Anderson began the year at Triple-A Gwinnett after a rough 2022 season, and he struggled in his first start in the minors before being diagnosed with a torn UCL in his right elbow. He'll miss the rest of the 2023 season but is expected to return in 2024. Fantasy managers should expect Anderson to at least miss the start of next season, though, and after last year's disappointing performance, his fantasy value is obviously way down now. The 24-year-old posted a 5.00 ERA and 1.51 WHIP with 97 strikeouts and 54 walks in 22 starts over 111 2/3 innings for the Braves last year. He can be dropped in all single-year fantasy leagues now.

Wed Apr 5 202315:04Ian Anderson Lands On Minor-League Injured List
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Ian Anderson (elbow) has been placed on the seven-day minor-league injured list with a right elbow injury. The Braves are still evaluating him at this time. Anderson gave up six runs (four earned) on four hits (three home runs) while walking two and striking out one in just two-thirds of an inning in his first start for Triple-A Gwinnett last week, but it's likely his elbow was already bothering him then. Fantasy managers that have been stashing the 24-year-old right-hander shouldn't expect him to make his 2023 debut with the Braves for some time, but hopefully his right elbow injury isn't a season-ender. Stay tuned for updates on how long he might be out.

Mon Apr 3 202314:04Ian Anderson Struggles In Triple-A Start
Atlanta Braves right-hander Ian Anderson didn't have the start he wanted in his first outing for Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday, as he allowed six runs (four earned) on four hits (three homers allowed) while walking two and striking out one in just two-thirds of an inning. The 24-year-old struggled to a 5.00 ERA (4.25 FIP), 1.51 WHIP and career-low 19.7 percent strikeout rate in 22 starts for the Braves in 2022 in his third major-league season, and he didn't look very great in spring training either. The Braves will want to see better results from him before they consider him for a big-league promotion, even with lefty Max Fried (hamstring) on the injured list. Bryce Elder is expected to replace Fried in the rotation for now.

Thu Mar 30 202318:28Ian Anderson Or Bryce Elder Could Start Wednesday
Atlanta Braves starting pitchers Ian Anderson and Bryce Elder are options to start next Wednesday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Braves managers Brian Snitker said Max Fried will definitely miss the start against the Cards. Kyle Wright isn't eligible to come off the IL until April 11, so he's not an option. With Wright due back shortly, Anderson or Elder may only get one start this time around. It's hard to say either has streaming potential against a good Cardinals lineup, but both pitchers have had success in the majors. You could do worse if you're in dire need.

Wed Mar 15 202300:20Ian Anderson Optioned To Triple-A Gwinnett Tuesday
The Atlanta Braves optioned starting pitcher Ian Anderson to Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday, per the team's Twitter account. The 24-year-old had a strong 2021 season but struggled last season with a 5.00 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, and 19.7% strikeout rate in 22 starts. It remains to be seen who will start the season as the Braves' fifth starter and it is possible that Anderson will get a chance to pitch with the team at some point during the season, but he will not get the first chance. This severely limits his fantasy value to start the season.

Thu Feb 16 202312:50Ian Anderson Revamps His Mechanics
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Ian Anderson really struggled in his third major-league season in 2022, posting a career-worst 5.00 ERA (4.25 FIP), 1.51 WHIP and career-low 19.7 percent strikeout rate in 111 2/3 innings over 22 starts. It got so bad that he was temporarily demoted to Triple-A to fix some things. He's competing for the fifth spot in the rotation this spring with Mike Soroka, Bryce Elder and Kolby Allard. The former first-rounder made multiple mechanical changes in the offseason while trying to clean up his delivery and keep better posture. The 24-year-old right-hander will need to clean up his control issues as well, but he's still very young and could bounce back if he wins a rotation spot to begin the 2023 season.

Wed Sep 14 202216:16Ian Anderson Suffers Strained Oblique
Atlanta Braves right-hander Ian Anderson (oblique) strained his left oblique while pitching for Triple-A Gwinnett on Sept. 8 and will be out at least a month. It basically rules out any chance that he could have returned to Atlanta's rotation for the end of the regular season and even possibly the postseason now. Anderson was demoted to the minors last month when the Braves acquired righty Jake Odorizzi from the Houston Astros at the trade deadline. The 24-year-old had a 5.00 ERA (4.25 FIP), 1.51 WHIP and 97 K's in 22 starts for the Braves before being demoted. In his four starts at Gwinnett he hasn't been any better, surrendering 13 earned runs on 25 hits while walking 10 and striking out 23 in 21 2/3 frames.

Sun Aug 7 202212:13Ian Anderson Optioned, Huascar Ynoa Recalled By Braves
The Atlanta Braves optioned right-hander Ian Anderson and outfielder Guillermo Heredia to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday and recalled right-hander Huascar Ynoa and selected catcher Chadwick Tromp's contract in corresponding moves. Anderson was solid last year with a 3.58 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 24 starts, but he's really struggled in 2022, going 9-6 with a 5.11 ERA (4.24 FIP), a 1.54 WHIP, 93 strikeouts and a league-high 53 walks in 105 2/3 innings over 21 starts. He'll head to the minors in order to work on his control. Ynoa has made two starts for Atlanta this year, allowing 10 earned runs on 11 hits (two homers) while striking out eight and walking six in just 6 2/3 frames. He also has a 5.38 ERA in 72 innings at Gwinnett, but there is some strikeout upside here.

Sun Jul 31 202200:15Ian Anderson Hurls Six-Shutout Frames Saturday
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Ian Anderson was superb on Saturday as he allowed just one hit over six-scoreless frames in his club's 6-2 win over the Diamondbacks. The victory took his record to 9-6 on the season as he struck out nine batters in the contest while issuing just one free pass in the 97-pitch outing. It was the first time the right-hander lasted six innings since a June 19 start and a nice bounce back contest after he gave up seven runs over three innings last weekend. Anderson will take an underwhelming 4.99 ERA and 1.50 WHIP into his next start versus the division-rival Mets.

Wed Apr 20 202214:57Ian Anderson Off To Uneven Start
Atlanta Braves right-hander Ian Anderson has pitched to a 6.48 ERA and a 4.85 FIP in his first two starts this season. It's a small sample early, but Anderson has thrown just 8.1 innings so far. He's collected eight strikeouts and six walks on the season. It's very much been a tale of two starts for the 23-year-old. Anderson gave up five walks, five earned runs, and three hits against just one strike in 2.2 innings in his first start of the season against the Cincinnati Reds. In his next outing six days later against the San Diego Padres, the right-hander struck out seven batters over 5.2 frames while giving up just two hits, a solo home run, and a walk.

Mon Apr 4 202214:42Ian Anderson Leaves Outing Monday Due To Blister
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Ian Anderson (toe) left his appearance as a precaution in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Tampa Bay Rays with a blister on his right big toe. Anderson is scheduled to start his first game of the regular season this Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds, but it remains to be seen if the blister issue will cause him to be skipped in the rotation. The 23-year-old should be able to make his first start of the season this weekend, but it makes him a little bit more risky as a DFS play, as he might have his pitch count limited to kick things off. Anderson was solid for the Braves and fantasy managers in 2021, going 9-5 with a 3.58 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 124 strikeouts and 53 walks in 24 starts in his second big-league season.

Mon Oct 11 202118:55Ian Anderson Delivers Five Scoreless Innings In Game 3
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Ian Anderson helped lead the team to a 3-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 3 of the NLDS. He pitched five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out six. The 23-year-old right-hander had some trouble keeping the ball in the yard during the final stretch of the regular season. He allowed seven home runs over 26.2 innings in September and had a 4.39 ERA over that stretch. However, Anderson has certainly begun to develop a reputation as a strong postseason pitcher. Dating back to last year, he has now thrown 23.2 postseason innings across his short career and he has allowed just two earned runs while striking out 30 batters.

Fri Oct 1 202100:20Ian Anderson Notches Victory Over Phillies
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Ian Anderson finished strong during his last start of the regular season. He went six innings, three hits allowed, two earned runs, three walks, and two strikeouts in the 5-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday. Anderson was serviceable this season, posting a 3.58 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 124/53 K/BB ratio across 128 1/3 innings. He should be a key piece to the Braves postseason rotation alongside Max Fried and Charlie Morton.

Thu Sep 23 202110:49Ian Anderson Throws Gem Versus Diamondbacks
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Ian Anderson was locked in during Wednesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He went seven innings, two hits allowed, one earned run, one walk, and eight strikeouts in the 9-2 win. To be fair, the Diamondbacks don't have much firepower on offense, but Anderson made easy work of them. Anderson will take a 3.60 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 122 strikeouts into his next start versus the Philadelphia Phillies. He'll be a favorable fantasy option in an important matchup versus Philly.

Sat Sep 18 202110:28Ian Anderson Allows Three Homers In No-Decision
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Ian Anderson had trouble keeping the ball in the park during Friday's game against the San Francisco Giants. He went 5 2/3 innings, five hits allowed, four earned runs, two walks, and seven strikeouts in the 6-5 loss. Anderson allowed three home runs in this contest, but deserves the benefit of the doubt. He is posting a respectable 3.75 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 114/49 K/BB through 22 starts this season. Anderson should have a bounce back performance versus the Arizona Diamondbacks during his next outing.

Sat Sep 11 202101:31Ian Anderson Fans Nine In Win Over Marlins
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Ian Anderson was tough to hit during Friday's game against the Miami Marlins. Anderson went five innings, five hits allowed, two earned runs, two walks, and nine strikeouts in the 6-2 victory. He has pitched well since coming off the injured list and doesn't appear to have missed a beat. Anderson will take a 3.61 ERA into his next start. Fantasy managers can continue believing in him down the stretch of the season.

Sun Sep 5 202100:34Ian Anderson Rocked On Saturday
Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Ian Anderson was not on his best game during Saturday's contest against the Colorado Rockies. He went three innings, five hits allowed, four earned runs, and four walks in the 7-6 loss. Anderson clearly struggled with his control and two home runs hurt him as well. Despite the rough outing, Anderson has been solid for the Braves this season. It's never easy pitching in Colorado, so fantasy managers should give him a pass here.
