The Milwaukee Brewers signed infielder Eddy Alvarez to a minor-league deal on Saturday that includes an invite to major-league spring training next year. Alvarez medaled in the 2014 Olympics for the United States as a short-track speed skater and in baseball in the 2020 Olympics for Team USA. The 32-year-old left-handed-hitting infielder played in 14 games with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2022, going 4-for-25 (.160) with no homers, three RBI, a run scored, three RBI and nine strikeouts in his 27 plate appearances. He'll give the Brewers some infield versatility as minor-league depth in 2023. Alvarez has hit .183/.262/.262 with a homer, 11 RBI, 15 runs scored and four stolen bases in 50 major-league games in three seasons.
