Seattle Mariners catcher Brian O'Keefe cleared waivers on Tuesday and has been outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma. The Mariners originally designated O'Keefe for assignment last Friday. If the 30-year-old backstop declines his outright assignment to the minors, he will become a free agent after the conclusion of the World Series. He played in just eight games in his second year in the big leagues for Seattle in 2023, going 2-for-19 (.105) with two doubles, two RBI, two walks and seven strikeouts in 21 plate appearances for the M's. O'Keefe has yet to clear the fences and has gone 3-for-22 over 10 games in the big leagues the last two years.

The Seattle Mariners re-signed catcher Brian O'Keefe to a minor-league deal this week. O'Keefe is likely to be invited to major-league spring training. He made his major-league debut for the Mariners in 2022 but only appeared in two games, going 1-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts in his four plate appearances. O'Keefe will continue to provide organizational depth at the catching position in 2023 behind Cal Raleigh and Tom Murphy.
