Fri May 310:02Brayan Rocchio Swipes Fifth Base
Cleveland Guardians shortstop Brayan Rocchio went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Thursday's loss against the Houston Astros. The stolen base would be the fifth of the season for the 23-year-old. Outside of the basepaths, Rocchio has struggled to swing the bat. On the season, he is hitting a weak .218 and is homerless with four RBI. Despite playing on most days, the Guardians No. 9 prospect just hasn't done enough with the bat to convince managers to roster him. He can safely remain on the waiver wire.

Tue Apr 916:36Brayan Rocchio Getting A Rest Day Tuesday
Cleveland Guardians shortstop Brayan Rocchio is taking the day off on Tuesday against the visiting Chicago White Sox. The rookie is the club's primary shortstop and has started off the 2024 season in good shape offensively, going 9-for-33 (.273) with a league-leading five doubles, two RBI and four runs scored in his first nine games. Rocchio should be back in the starting lineup for Wednesday's series finale against Chicago on Wednesday. With the 23-year-old starting on the bench, Gabriel Arias is starting at shortstop and batting ninth against White Sox right-hander Michael Soroka. Arias makes for a poor DFS play in the nine-hole and has two hits in his first 13 at-bats this year. He's never faced Soroka in his career.

Fri Mar 2219:48Brayan Rocchio To Handle "Bulk" Of Playing Time At Shortstop
Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said that infielder Brayan Rocchio will handle the "bulk" of the playing time at shortstop this year. Rocchio is the club's No. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and has won the starting shortstop job after going 20-for-81 (.247) with no home runs and eight RBI in his first 23 major-league games in 2023. The 23-year-old won the job by hitting .270/.308/.459 in 13 Cactus League games this spring. Power isn't really his thing, as he hit only seven home runs in 116 contests with Triple-A Columbus in 2023 before getting called up to Cleveland, but he steal 25 bases. The switch-hitting shortstop doesn't have a ton of fantasy upside at the 6 because of his lack of over-the-fence pop, but winning the starting shortstop gig will at least make him an AL-only asset because of his speed.

Thu Aug 10 202319:53Brayan Rocchio Doubles Twice In Win Thursday
Cleveland Guardians infielder Brayan Rocchio went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and a run scored in a 4-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday. Hitting leadoff, Rocchio smacked a pair of doubles, giving him four in just 40 at-bats this season. The Guardians recalled Rocchio, one of the top prospects, from Triple-A Columbus last week as they look to find out what they have in some of their younger players. Rocchio is taking advantage of the opportunity, as he has a .308 batting average in 26 at-bats since the promotion. He is worth monitoring in deeper fantasy leagues in case he stays hot at the plate.

Wed Aug 2 202308:17Guardians Promote Brayan Rocchio Tuesday
The Cleveland Guardians are calling up infield prospect Brayan Rocchio from Triple-A Columbus, according to Guardians Prospective. He will be available to play in Wednesday's contest against the Houston Astros. Rocchio made his Major League debut earlier this season and went 3-for-14 with no extra-base hits. Over 19 games at Triple-A, the club's top-five prospect slashed .291/.383/.417 with three bombs and 19 stolen bases. Rocchio looks like he'll be a solid contact hitter with some speed, so fantasy managers looking for batting average may want to add the 22-year-old from the waiver wire.

Thu Jul 27 202314:21Brayan Rocchio Hit Streak Up To 16 Games
Cleveland Guardians shortstop prospect Brayan Rocchio extended his hit streak to 16 games with a home run and a single in a 2-for-4 showing for Triple-A Columbus. During this hit streak, the 22-year-old has slashed .379/.468/.545 with a home run, 17 runs, 13 RBI, and a 1.14 BB/K ratio. He already debuted with Cleveland this season, going 3-for-14 in a measly four games before being sent back to Columbus. With the trade of starting shortstop Amed Rosario to Los Angeles, there is a significant opening for Rocchio at the major-league level, making him a great stash candidate in redraft leagues.

Tue Jul 11 202316:50Brayan Rocchio Extends Hitting Streak To Nine Games
Cleveland Guardians infield prospect Brayan Rocchio hit safely again on Sunday, securing a nine-game hitting streak heading into the All-Star break. The switch-hitter is now slashing .289/.381/.414 through 76 games with Triple-A Columbus this season. Rocchio's 50-grade power has not been fully realized at the Triple-A level, going yard just twice thus far this season after an 18-home run campaign across 132 games in 2022. Still, his approach at the plate is advanced, and he figures to develop into a 15-20-home run player annually. The 22-year-old already cracked the majors twice this season, though he failed to make an impression across four total appearances. Rocchio is a prime candidate for promotion the rest of the way and is worth a speculative add in deeper leagues.

Wed Apr 19 202312:15Guardians Recall Brayan Rocchio Wednesday
The Cleveland Guardians recalled infield prospect Brayan Rocchio from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday and optioned right-hander Hunter Gaddis to Columbus in a corresponding move. Per MLB Pipeline, Rocchio is Cleveland's No. 6 prospect, and he gets the call to the big leagues after going 21-for-61 (.344) with seven doubles, 10 RBI, four stolen bases and 10 runs scored in 15 games for Columbus to begin the year. He's not making his first big-league start on Wednesday, but he could see some playing time if Amed Rosario (back) is unable to return to action by the weekend. The 22-year-old switch-hitter can probably be ignored for now in most mixed leagues, but he has the potential to eventually hit for a solid average with moderate power as a middle infielder.

Sat Aug 20 202211:16Guardians Promote Brayan Rocchio to Triple-A
The Cleveland Guardians have promoted top infield prospect, Brayan Rocchio, to Triple-A. Rocchio is the 72nd-ranked prospect in all of MLB (and the fourth-ranked prospect in the Cleveland organization) as per MLB Pipeline. The international free agent signed out of Venezuela was hitting .265/.349/.432 with 13 home runs, 48 RBI, and 12 steals over 373 at-bats prior to his promotion. In 2021, Rocchio slashed a combined .277/.346/.460 with 15 HR, 63 RBI, and 21 steals at High-A and Double-A. Rocchio projects as a starting shortstop with an above-average hit tool, speed, and defensive capability that will allow him to stick at short. With this promotion, Rocchio remains on track for eventual promotion to the majors sometime in 2023. He has the potential to post 15 HR/20-plus stolen base seasons to go with solid ratios. He should be rostered in all dynasty formats.
