The Cleveland Guardians have signed left-hander Anthony Banda and catcher Dom Nunez to minor-league deals. Both players will receive an invitation to big-league spring training. Banda, 30, made 10 appearances with the Nationals in 2023, posting a 6.43 ERA while walking 14.3% of the 35 hitters he faced across just seven innings of work. He also struggled to a 7.58 ERA across 33 outings (10 starts) at Triple-A a season ago. Nunez, 29, didn't appear in the big leagues in 2023 but rather spent the season at Triple-A between the Pirates and Cubs organizations. He combined to hit just .187 with five home runs and a .637 OPS across 63 games. In the big leagues, he has hit .180 with 12 home runs and a .653 OPS across 111 appearances, all with the Rockies in parts of three seasons from 2019-2022.

Colorado Rockies catcher Dom Nunez went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBI, one run scored, a walk, and two strikeouts in a 5-4 loss to the Diamondbacks on Sunday. The 26-year-old backstop got off to a hot start back in April but fell off a cliff the rest of the way. Wed Aug 18 202118:59Dom Nunez Cracks A Solo Home Run
Colorado Rockies catcher Dom Nunez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 7-5 win over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday. Nunez gave the Rockies a temporary lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when he took Jake Arrieta deep for a solo home run to make the score 5-4. It was his eighth homer of the season and his only hit of the ball game. The 26-year-old backstop is now batting a meager .176 with a .662 OPS, eight home runs, and 28 RBI across 182 at-bats this season. Elias Diaz is the catcher to roster in Colorado but he's more of a two-catcher league option.

Sun Aug 8 202118:54Dom Nunez Swats A Homer On Sunday
Colorado Rockies catcher Dom Nunez went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in a 13-8 win over the Miami Marlins on Sunday. Nunez parked his seventh home run of the season in the second inning, a two-run blast, to put the Rockies up 5-1. He swatted one of six Colorado home runs in the high-scoring affair. Nunez has had his bright spots this season but he hasn't been able to hit with any consistency. The 26-year-old is batting .173 with a .656 OPS, seven home runs, and 27 RBI over 173 at-bats. If you want to roster a Colorado catcher then Elias Diaz is your man, not Nunez.
