Wed Feb 700:34Nationals, Stephen Nogosek Agree To Minor-League Deal
The Washington Nationals agreed to a minor-league deal with free-agent relief pitcher Stephen Nogosek on Tuesday, per New York Post's Jon Heyman. The 29-year-old spent time in the Mets and Diamondbacks organizations in 2023, ultimately pitching 25 1/3 big-league innings with a 5.61 ERA and 1.64 WHIP. While the Nationals could use depth in their bullpen, Nogosek will need to prove that he is better than his 2023 numbers if he hopes to catch on at the big-league level.

The New York Mets reinstated right-hander Stephen Nogosek (elbow) from the 15-day injured list on Monday. In a corresponding move, right-hander Jose Butto was sent back to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday. Nogosek is returning from a left elbow bruise after a minimum stay on the injured list. The 28-year-old tossed three innings in a minor-league rehab assignment with Syracuse and Double-A Binghamton, and he should be available for Monday's doubleheader against the division-rival Atlanta Braves. Before his injury, Nogosek had allowed two runs on eight hits (one homer) while walking three and striking out eight in 6 1/3 relief innings for the Mets.
