Sat Apr 620:28Emmanuel Clase Collects Save No. 4 On Saturday
Cleveland Guardians right-hander Emmanuel Clase allowed one hit while striking out two over a scoreless inning to earn the save in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Minnesota Twins. Clase entered Saturday's game during the ninth inning to protect a two-run lead. He got two quick outs before allowing a two-out single to Twins shortstop Carlos Correa. The 26-year-old shook off the two-out hit by striking out Alex Kirilloff to the end game. He is 4-for-4 in save chances and has not allowed a run this season. Clase is off to a hot start as Cleveland's primary closer and will look to rack up his third straight 40-save campaign in 2024.

Thu Apr 421:37Emmanuel Clase Nets Third Save Thursday
Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase registered his third save already this year to finish off the division-rival Minnesota Twins in Thursday's 4-2 win, pitching a clean ninth inning to protect the victory. Clase didn't fan any of the three batters he faced on a day the Guards punched out 15, but he's now up to three scoreless innings with two strikeouts to begin the season. After leading baseball in saves in each of the past two campaigns, the 26-year-old former American League Reliever of the Year is tied with Clay Holmes for the lead in saves during the very early stages of 2024. Cleveland paced MLB with 81 save opportunities last year, and Clase will hope to ride a similar wave again. He's entrenched as one of fantasy's elite closers going forward and should have no problem reaching 30 saves this season.

Wed Apr 300:49Emmanuel Clase Notches Second Save Of Season Tuesday
Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase picked up his second save of the season in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Mariners. Clase came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by three. He got the first out on a strikeout, allowed a single, got the second out on a groundout, and ended the game with another strikeout. The 25-year-old has been one of fantasy's premier closers for several seasons and is off to another great start, working two scoreless innings with no walks and two strikeouts.

Fri Mar 1509:17Emmanuel Clase Has Rough Inning Of Work
Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase allowed a three-run homer to Alan Trejo in one inning against the Colorado Rockies on Thursday in Cactus League action. It was the first bad performance this spring for the 25-year-old and he has now thrown five innings with nine strikeouts. There were some whispers this offseason of a potential Clase trade, but nothing came to fruition and he remains the Guardians closer. The right-hander is coming off of another strong season and remains one of the top closers in the game. Managers shouldn't hesitate to draft Clase as one of the top bullpen options entering 2024.

Mon Feb 520:44Guardians Unlikely To Trade Emmanuel Clase
Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase is drawing trade interest from multiple teams, but a deal appears unlikely in the short term, according to sources. Cleveland has club options and control of Clase through the 2028 season, so there is no motivation for the Guardians to move one of the best closers in baseball right now. The 25-year-old right-hander led the league in saves for the second straight season in 2023 with a career-high 44 saves. That was the good news. The bad news is that he also had a career-high nine losses while also blowing a league-leading 12 saves for Cleveland. Clase allowed more contact and posted a 3.22 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and a career-low 21.2 percent strikeout rate. It's something to think about for fantasy managers, but he's going to be a top-five closer in 2024 drafts regardless.

Wed Jan 1714:38Cubs Showing Interest in Guardians' Emmanuel Clase
The Chicago Cubs are looking to bolster their bullpen and are showing interest in Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase. It was reported earlier in the offseason that Clase is a trade candidate and that the Guardians would be willing to move the All-Star. The Cubs are likely far from the only club interested in the 25-year-old considering his immense success through parts of four MLB seasons. Clase is coming off of a 3.22 ERA across 75 outings in the 2023 season but he also posted a 1.36 ERA or better in each of the 2021 and 2022 campaigns. His 86 saves over the past two seasons are easily the most in baseball, 14 more than the Blue Jays' Jordan Romano. He also ranks first in baseball with 152 appearances over the last two seasons, seven more than second-place A.J. Minter.

Sat Dec 2 202313:19Cleveland Willing To Trade Emmanuel Clase
Cleveland Guardians relief pitcher Emmanuel Clase is a potential trade candidate this winter, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.com. The Guardians are willing to move the All-Star closer and there should be no shortage of teams vying for his services. Clase had a bit of a letdown season in 2023, by his lofty standards, as he finished with a 3.22 ERA, 1.156 WHIP, and 64:16 K/BB ratio to go along with 44 saves over 72 2/3 innings. He's still just 25 years old, however, and is widely considered one of the best closers in the game. The dynamic reliever technically doesn't become an unrestricted free agent until 2029 as he's locked in through 2026, at least, with a pair of club options in 2027 and 2028, respectively. He could fetch a very nice return on the trade market but where he ends up getting traded to is anyone's guess.

Fri Sep 22 202300:49Emmanuel Clase Slams Door On Orioles
Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase converted his league-leading 42nd save of the season Thursday, finishing off a 5-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles. Clase allowed a hit and a walk to make things interesting, but struck out a pair in his inning of work to close things out. He now has five more saves than anyone else in the majors, meaning he will almost surely finish at the top of the leaderboard. Although he's had his ups and downs, he has been worth his price as the first reliever taken in drafts this season. He is likely to remain near the top of the board next year, although he may not go first among relievers.

Fri Sep 8 202301:26Emmanuel Clase Blows Save, Takes Loss Thursday
Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase had a rough outing Thursday, taking the blown save and the loss in a 3-2 defeat against the Los Angeles Angels. Clase was very hittable in this one, giving up four hits and a walk in of an inning. The 25-year-old now has 10 blown saves on the season, although he has racked up 38 saves as well. Clase has been good recently, allowing just one earned run over his last 10 appearances and converting his last seven save attempts. He is still a top-five closer in fantasy.

Wed Aug 30 202300:46Emmanuel Clase Earns Save No. 35 Tuesday
Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase picked up his 35th save of the season in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Twins. Clase entered the game to pitch the bottom of the ninth up by three. He got the first out on a groundout, allowed a solo home run, and got the final two outs on a groundout and a pop-out. While his save total has been what fantasy managers have expected, the 25-year-old has not been as stellar as he has been in previous seasons, blowing nine saves with a 3.00 ERA and an 8.40 K/9 rate. That being said, fantasy managers cannot complain, as he has been one of fantasy's top closers.

Tue Aug 15 202321:52Emmanuel Clase Shuts The Door On The Reds
Cleveland Guardians relief pitcher Emmanuel Clase earned the save on Tuesday when he allowed just one hit to go along with a strikeout over a scoreless ninth inning in a 3-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds. Clase entered the bottom of the ninth inning with Cleveland holding on to a 3-0 lead and had to work around a leadoff single by Spencer Steer to earn the save. He struck out Henry Ramos, got Christian Encarnacion-Strand to pop out, and then got TJ Friedl to fly out to end the contest. Clase has not been his dominant self this season, holding a 1-7 record while going 32-for-41 on save opportunities. He's notched four saves in six chances so far in August and despite his struggles is still one of the better closers in the game. He owns a 3.15 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 52:13 K/BB ratio over 54 1/3 innings on the season.

Thu Aug 10 202320:02Emmanuel Clase Earns Save Thursday
Cleveland Guardians right-handed relief pitcher Emmanuel Clase logged his 31st save of the season, beating the Blue Jays in a close contest 4-3 on Thursday. Clase retired the side in order after blowing a save on Sunday versus the White Sox. The 25-year-old hasn't given up an earned run since July 4th and he has converted on 31 of 39 save attempts so far. He's posted a 1-6 record with 50 strikeouts in 52/2 innings pitched during 2023.

Mon Aug 7 202317:07Emmanuel Clase Suspended For One Game
Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase has been suspended for one game by Major League Baseball for his part in Saturday night's brawl with the Chicago White Sox, according to sources. Cleveland manager Terry Francona was also suspended one game. Both Clase and Francona will serve their one-game suspensions on Monday in the series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays. The 25-year-old Clase will be unavailable for fantasy managers to begin the week, but he'll return on Tuesday. If a save situation arises for the Guardians on Monday, Trevor Stephan will likely be asked to close things out. When active, Clase is a must-start in fantasy lineups yet again in 2023. He has a sharp 2.84 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 29 saves and 47 strikeouts in 50 2/3 relief frames.

Sun Aug 6 202316:07Emmanuel Clase Blows Save On Sunday
Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase blew the save and took the loss on Sunday against the Chicago White Sox. Tasked with protecting a 3-2 lead in the top of the ninth inning, Clase allowed three unearned runs on three hits while striking out three. Clase wasn't helped by two two-out throwing errors committed by rookie third baseman Brayan Rocchio in the frame but he still wound up with his eighth blown save of the season. Overall, Clase has a 1-6 record, 2.84 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 29 saves, and 47 strikeouts across 50 2/3 innings of work in 2023.

Thu Jul 27 202323:54Emmanuel Clase Hangs On For 28th Save
Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase notched his 28th save of the year in closing out Thursday's 6-3 win over the Chicago White Sox. It wasn't all easy for the 25-year-old, who initially got two groundouts in short succession before things got a bit interesting. Oscar Colas and Gavin Sheets would then single to get the tying run to the plate, but Andrew Benintendi struck out looking on Clase's 19th pitch of the ninth inning. The flame-throwing right-hander is now tied with Felix Bautista and Jordan Romano for an AL-high 28 saves overall. After a shaky stretch earlier in the month, Clase has rattled off seven straight scoreless frames. The 2022 Reliever of the Year award winner has remained a top-shelf fantasy closer this year, featuring a 3.02 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 43:12 K:BB in 47 2/3 innings.

Sun Jul 2 202323:14Emmanuel Clase Blows Four-Run Lead Sunday
Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase got blown up by the Chicago Cubs, allowing four runs in the ninth. Technically, since he didn't come in with a save on the line, he won't take a blown save in this one. Still, this was a disastrous outing and is the second in a row where he's allowed more than one run and blown a lead. His ERA skyrockets to 3.40 and his WHIP is now at 1.21, pretty pedestrian numbers for a guy drafted as the number one relief pitcher. He does have 24 saves and will continue to be the go-to guy for Cleveland, so it's not as if the sky is falling yet for Clase owners. Still, more is expected for a closer of his caliber.

Fri Jun 30 202301:02Emmanuel Clase Blows Save Thursday
Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase took a blown save and a loss in a 4-3 extra innings defeat against the Kansas City Royals. Clase was asked to protect a one-run lead, which is never easy with the ghost runner. Still, Clase wasn't at his best as he allowed two hits, including a game-winning two-run double. The 25-year-old fireballer has been excellent since late May, as these were the first runs he's allowed in 13 IP. Over that span he had a 17:5 K:BB ratio and only allowed four hits. So yeah, we'll give him a pass on this one.

Wed Jun 28 202300:38Emmanuel Clase Earns Save No. 24 Tuesday
Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase earned his league-best 24th save of the season in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Royals. Clase came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth up by one. He got the first two outs on groundouts, had a runner reach first on an error, but got one more groundout to end the game. The 25-year-old has been an elite fantasy option once again this season and has started to look like his old self, bringing his season stats to a 2.35 ERA and 8.22 K/9 rate. It is a testament to his skill that Clase remains one of fantasy's top closers even when his game isn't quite at 100%.

Sun Jun 25 202310:25Emmanuel Clase Nets 23rd Save, Extends Scoreless Streak
Cleveland Guardians relief pitcher Emmanuel Clase hurled a scoreless ninth inning to seize his 23rd save of the year in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. The 25-year-old allowed a single and struck out one batter. Clase stretched his scoreless-appearance streak to 11 with another shutdown effort. Those who spent a premium draft pick on the flame-throwing righty this past spring are receiving just about what they hoped for. Clase hasn't been as untouchable as he was in 2022, but nonetheless wears a strong 2.48 ERA and 1.10 WHIP with 34 strikeouts over 36 1/3 innings in 2023. The reigning AL Reliever of the Year should continue to be treated as a top-tier fantasy RP going forward with Cleveland supplying plenty of save opportunities (40) despite a sub-.500 record.

Fri Jun 16 202300:39Emmanuel Clase Picks Up Four-Out Save Thursday
Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase notched his league-leading 21st save on Thursday, recording the final four outs of an 8-6 victory over the San Diego Padres. Clase was brought in with a runner at second and two outs in the eighth, and got Manny Machado to ground out to end the threat. He then pitched a clean ninth, allowing just a walk while striking out one. The cutter specialist has been tremendous since the calendar flipped to June, allowing just four baserunners in six innings while striking out 10. He has also recorded four saves in that time span. He has been well worth his high draft price and should continue to be one of, if not the best closer in the league.
