Mon Apr 817:06Tejay Antone Needs Another Elbow Surgery
Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell said that reliever Tejay Antone (elbow) will have another elbow surgery this Friday after he tore the tendon off the bone while also suffering a partial ligament tear. Antone has already had Tommy John surgery twice in 2017 and 2021. The Reds officially placed him on the 15-day injured list on Monday and recalled right-hander Carson Spiers from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move. It's another tough blow for the 30-year-old right-hander and the Reds' bullpen. Because of setbacks from his last Tommy John surgery, Antone has only appeared in nine games for the Reds since 2021. He's not going to make it back in 2024 and probably won't be ready for the start of the 2025 season, either.

Sun Apr 719:18Tejay Antone To Undergo MRI
Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Tejay Antone (elbow) was pulled early during Sunday's appearance against the New York Mets. The 30-year-old was only able to throw one pitch before exiting the game due to elbow discomfort. Following the game, Reds' manager David Bell said Antone will undergo an MRI on Monday. This is a tough blow to the Reds bullpen, assuming Antone is forced to miss time. Fantasy managers will have to check back on Monday for another update on his status.

Wed Feb 2113:16Tejay Antone Healthy In Camp
Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Tejay Antone (elbow) is going through a normal spring training this year for the first time in three years. Antone had Tommy John surgery in 2021 and had multiple setbacks since, including one before last season. He also dealt with elbow tendinitis that put him on the injured list at the end of 2023. The 30-year-old right-hander is in camp trying to win a spot in Cincy's bullpen this spring after making just five appearances out of the bullpen for the team last year. Antone debuted in the major leagues with the Reds in the shortened 2020 season but has only thrown 74 2/3 innings over 41 appearances (five starts) in that time, posting a strong 2.41 ERA and 0.95 WHIP with three saves, 31 walks and 94 strikeouts. He has the stuff to be a high-leverage reliever, but expect the Reds to ease him in if he makes the Opening Day bullpen.

Thu Sep 14 202300:32Tejay Antone Suffering From Elbow Discomfort
Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Tejay Antone (elbow) left his outing on Wednesday night against the Detroit Tigers with right-elbow discomfort. Before leaving, Antone allowed a walk and struck out one in two-thirds of an inning to pick up his first hold of the season. That's where the good news ends. The 29-year-old recently made his 2023 debut after returning from Tommy John surgery, so more elbow pain is a pretty ominous sign for the reliever. Antone came into Wednesday's outing having thrown just five innings out of the Cincy bullpen after making his season debut on Sept. 2. There's a good chance he'll need a trip to the injured list, and it wouldn't be a surprise if we didn't see him again until spring training in 2024.

Tue Aug 29 202312:40Tejay Antone Could Have Rehab Assignment Extended Again
Cincinnati Reds right-hander Tejay Antone (elbow) worked a scoreless inning with one hit allowed and a strikeout for Triple-A Louisville on Aug. 16, which was his 12th minor-league rehab appearance. Antone and the Reds recently agreed to extend his rehab assignment by 10 days as he works his way back from a second Tommy John surgery, and manager David Bell didn't rule out another extension. "He's doing well. No decision has been made yet. He is feeling good and pitching well," Bell said. The 29-year-old reliever had Tommy John surgery back in August of 2021 and then suffered a right flexor strain last winter. In 11 2/3 innings of rehab in the minors this year, he's allowed seven earned runs on 14 hits (two homers) while walking four and striking out 12.

Wed Jul 26 202322:23Tejay Antone Begins Rehab Assignment
Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Tejay Antone (elbow) started a minor-league rehab assignment on Tuesday at the Arizona Complex League. If everything goes smoothly, he is projected to return to Cincy's big-league bullpen by Aug. 19, according to manager David Bell. Antone is working his way back from a second Tommy John procedure that he had last year, and he also had a setback along the way with a sore right shoulder. Considering how long the 29-year-old has been out, it makes plenty of sense for him to be on a rehab assignment for as long as possible, potentially up to 30 days. It's unlikely that Antone will have fantasy value, if any at all, for the remainder of the 2023 campaign. He hasn't pitched since last August.

Wed Jul 19 202308:49Tejay Antone Throws On Tuesday
Cincinnati Reds reliever Tejay Antone (forearm) threw a side session on Tuesday, according to MLB.com, and if there continues to be no issues, there's a chance he could return to the club on August 19. The right-hander has missed all of 2023 and 2022 as he's recovering from Tommy John surgery and a flexor strain in his right forearm. Over 33 2/3 innings in 2021, Antone pitched to a 2.14 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, and 32.8% strikeout rate with three saves and eight holds. The closing job is out of reach, as Alexis Diaz has flourished in that role, but if the 29-year-old can be as effective as in the past, there's a good chance the team will use him as a late-inning arm.

Sat Feb 11 202310:04Tejay Antone To Miss First Half Of Season
Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Tejay Antone (forearm) had a setback with his right elbow and likely will not be ready to pitch in the first half of the 2023 season due to a flexor strain in his right forearm. It comes after he missed all of last season while recovering from a second Tommy John surgery. Antone received a platelet-rich plasma injection on Tuesday. The 29-year-old was one of the Reds' best relievers in 2021, posting a 2.14 ERA and 0.89 WHIP in 23 appearances while walking 13 and striking out 42. Alexis Diaz is projected to serve as Cincinnati's closer this year, and Lucas Sims and Reiver Sanmartin will have even bigger setup roles now with Antone likely out for the entire first half. Sims pitched in just six games in 2022 due to a back injury that required surgery.

Wed Feb 8 202300:26Tejay Antone Dealing With Flexor Strain
Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Tejay Antone (elbow) shared on Twitter Tuesday that he will not be ready to pitch at the start of the regular season. The 29-year-old missed the 2022 season recovering from Tommy John surgery but announced that he received a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection for a flexor strain, saying that he would be ready for the second half of the 2023 season. Antone has only pitched 69 innings in his career but has posted a solid 2.48 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and 32.3% strikeout rate. He has the stuff of a potential closer, but fantasy managers will need to see him pitch while healthy before he can even be considered.

Thu Aug 26 202112:54Tejay Antone To Undergo Tommy John Surgery
Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Tejay Antone (forearm) announced on his Twitter account that he was scheduled to undergo Tommy John Surgery on Friday. This will be his second Tommy John surgery. His first came in 2017 when he was in the minors. Antone was sidelined for about two months due to a right forearm strain. He made his return to the diamond this past week, but wasn't able to complete an inning before feeling something in his elbow. Antone was one of the best arms out of the Reds bullpen this year. Over 23 games and 33.2 innings, he had a 2.14 ERA, a 0.89 WHIP and a 33.1% strikeout rate.

Wed Aug 25 202117:24Tejay Antone Placed On Injured List
The Cincinnati Reds placed relief pitcher Tejay Antone (forearm) on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday due to a right forearm strain. It's unfortunate news as Antone was previously placed on the 10-day injured list in late June due to a right forearm strain and was just activated on Tuesday. The reliever left Tuesday's game in his first appearance back from the injured list. He's pitched to a 2.14 ERA, a 3.49 FIP, 42 strikeouts, and 13 walks in 33.2 innings this year. What's more, the 27-year-old has also collected three saves and eight holds. The Reds have used several relievers in save situations, so there isn't a clear-cut closer for fantasy managers in search of saves to try and acquire. Right now, Lucas Sims, Mychal Givens, and Amir Garrett look like three of the favorites for saves opportunities while Antone is on the injured list.

Wed Aug 25 202107:33Tejay Antone Felt Something In His Elbow On Tuesday
Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Tejay Antone (elbow) was removed from Tuesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. At the time, the cause of the removal wasn't clear. However, after the game, Reds manager David Bell told the media that Antone had "definitely felt something in his elbow" during his appearance. Tuesday's relief appearance was Antone's return to action after he was sidelined about two months with a right forearm strain. It sounds likely that he'll be heading back to the injured list on Wednesday, but we should know more specifics soon.

Wed Aug 25 202100:08Tejay Antone Leaves Game With Apparent Injury
Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Tejay Antone (undisclosed) left Tuesday's game versus the Milwaukee Brewers with an apparent injury. The 27-year-old was activated from the injured list on Tuesday after being placed with a right forearm strain on June 26. Antone lasted only five pitches before leaving the game with a trainer. The right-hander was in the midst of a strong season before injuries derailed the campaign, posting a 1.87 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and 42 strikeouts across 33 2/3 innings pitched. More information should come from the team soon, but it wouldn't be a surprise if Antone has thrown his last pitch in 2021.

Sun Aug 22 202115:12Tejay Antone Expected To Be Activated From IL Tuesday
Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Tejay Antone (forearm) struck out two of the three batters he faced in a rehab appearance on Sunday, and he's expected to rejoin the Reds on Tuesday for the series opener with the Brewers, according to Bobby Nightengale of the Cincinnati Inquirer. Antone has been out of action since late June with a forearm strain, after starting the year by converting 3-of-4 save opportunities along with a 1.87 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and a 13.7 swinging strike percentage over 33 2/3 innings. He could figure to be a key piece in the back end of Cincinnati's bullpen down the stretch, and is worth rostering in deeper formats and SV/HLD leagues.

Tue Aug 17 202122:00Tejay Antone Could Return Tuesday
Cincinnati Reds pitcher Tejay Antone (forearm) could return from the 10-day injured list next Tuesday. He's been sidelined with a strained forearm since late June. The 27-year-old will throw back-to-back Wednesday and Thursday at Louisville. He will get two days off and make another appearance over the weekend. According to manager David Bell, the Reds right-hander could return by next Tuesday. Antone has converted 3-of-4 save opportunities along with a 1.87 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and a 13.7 swinging strike percentage over 33 2/3 innings in 2021. Fantasy managers could stash Antone as he will be in the mix for ninth-inning duties once activated from the injured list.

The veteran hurler has been sidelined since June 24 with a forearm strain and has been on his rehab assignment since Saturday. The right-handed reliever should be able to join the big league club sometime in the next week or so. Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Tejay Antone (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Saturday, according to Mark Sheldon of MLB.com. Managers should continue to stash him on the IL until his return to action.

Fri Aug 6 202108:32Tejay Antone Could Begin Rehab Assignment This Weekend
Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Tejay Antone (forearm) has been progressing lately. On Thursday, Reds manager David Bell told reporters that Antone could begin a rehab assignment in "the next day or two." Antone has been sidelined since late June with a right forearm strain. He has been the Reds' best reliever by just about all metrics this year. He's pitched in 22 games, posting a 1.87 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP to go along with three saves and eight holds. The Reds have used him in a hybrid type of role and he's likely to resume that role upon his return, which should come at some point later this month.

Wed Jul 28 202119:34Reds acquire reliever Givens from Rockies for 2 prospects
CINCINNATI (AP) — The Cincinnati Reds kept adding arms to their struggling bullpen by acquiring right-hander Mychal Givens from the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday for two pitching prospects. The Reds sent right-handers Case Williams and Noah Davis to Colorado. On Tuesday night, Cincinnati got relievers Luis Cessa and Justin Wilson from the New York Yankees for a player to be named. The trio gives the second-place Reds much-needed relief help as they chase the Milwaukee Brewers in NL Central and try to keep the Cardinals and Cubs at bay. “They come with great reports on their character, and we know their track records as pitchers,” manager David Bell said Wednesday from Chicago before the Reds played the Cubs. “We’re always looking to get better, and I think it says a lot about where we are, just as far as believing in what we’re doing and where we’re headed. Can’t wait to add these guys into the mix.” The 31-year-old Givens, who is due to be a free agent after the season, has a 2.73 ERA... [More]
Wed Jul 14 202113:30Reds heat up, chipping away at Brewers' lead in NL Central
CINCINNATI (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati start the second half of the season the same way they ended the first — with Nick Castellanos and the Reds hoping to pick up where they left off. After Castellanos and the resurgent Reds won three out of four in Milwaukee last weekend to pull within four games of the NL Central-leading Brewers, the schedule matches them up again for a three-game set in Cincinnati right after the All-Star break. In the last two games the Reds scored go-ahead runs in the ninth inning off All-Star closer Josh Hader. Cincinnati’s spare-parts bullpen has struggled for much of the season but suddenly looked unbeatable. The Reds are sizzling in July, winning nine of 11 since dropping a rain-shortened game to the Padres on June 30. Cincinnati won the series finale with San Diego on July 1, swept the Cubs and took two out of three from Kansas City before besting the Brewers. Eugenio Suarez, hitting just .175, homered to lead off the Reds ninth Saturday night... [More]
