Tue Jan 17 202317:12Lewin Diaz Outrighted To Triple-A
Baltimore Orioles first baseman Lewin Diaz passed through waivers and has been outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk. Diaz has had a tumultuous offseason to say the least, after originally being designated for assignment on Nov. 15 of last year by the Miami Marlins. Since then, he was claimed by the Pirates on Nov. 22, DFA'd by the Pirates on Nov. 30, claimed by the Orioles on Dec. 2, DFA'd by the Orioles on Dec. 21, traded to the Braves on Dec. 23, DFA'd by the Braves on Dec. 28, claimed by the O's on Jan. 5 and now outrighted back to the minors. For now, the 26-year-old left-handed hitter will stick with Baltimore after he hit .169 with five home runs, 11 RBI and 54 strikeouts in 174 plate appearances in his third MLB season with Miami in 2022. Diaz will represent first base depth in Baltimore if he sticks with the organization.

Thu Jan 5 202318:40Orioles Claim Lewin Diaz Off Waivers From Braves
The Baltimore Orioles claimed first baseman Lewin Diaz off waivers from the Atlanta Braves on Thursday and designated first baseman/outfielder Ryan O'Hearn for assignment in a corresponding move. Diaz continues to get passed around multiple MLB clubs this offseason, but he'll make a return to Baltimore for now. The 26-year-old left-handed-hitting first baseman played in a career-high 58 games for the Miami Marlins in 2022 in his third major-league season and really struggled, hitting .169/.224/.288 with a .512 OPS, five home runs, 11 RBI, 12 runs scored and a stolen base in 174 plate appearances. If he sticks with Baltimore heading into spring training, he'll be hoping to turn heads, but he's likely to begin the year at Triple-A Norfolk.

The Braves sent right-hander Indigo Diaz and infielder Caleb Durbin to the Yanks. It's been a tumultuous offseason for Diaz, who has been with four teams already. The 26-year-old left-handed hitter played in 58 games for the Miami Marlins in 2022 and hit just .169/.224/.288 with five home runs, 11 RBI, 12 runs scored, a stolen base and 54 strikeouts in 174 plate appearances. He could be claimed off waivers yet again, but wherever he ends up, he's likely to begin next season on the farm as infield depth.

Fri Dec 23 202213:17Braves Acquire Lewin Diaz From The Orioles
The Atlanta Braves acquired first baseman Lewin Diaz from the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday in exchange for cash considerations. Diaz was designated for assignment by the Miami Marlins in November and has been passed around by the Pittsburgh Pirates and Orioles this offseason. He'll obviously be blocked at the big-league level by elite slugger Matt Olson. The 26-year-old Dominican left-handed hitter played in 58 games for the Fish in 2022, slashing just .169/.224/.288 with five home runs, 11 RBI, 12 runs scored and a stolen base in 174 plate appearances. Diaz has struggled to make consistent contact in three major-league seasons in Miami, with a career line of .181/.227/.340 with a .567 OPS, 13 home runs and 99 strikeouts in 343 plate appearances.

Fri Dec 2 202217:55Lewin Diaz Claimed By Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles claimed first baseman Lewin Diaz off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday, according to sources. Diaz was designated for assignment by the Pirates earlier this week after the landed Ji-Man Choi in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays. The 26-year-old Dominican slugger spent the last three years with the Miami Marlins, struggling to the tune of a .181/.227/.340 slash line with 13 home runs, 27 RBI, 30 runs scored and 99 strikeouts in 343 plate appearances over 112 games. He's out of minor-league options, so he'll stand a decent chance of making the big-league roster to open the 2023 season if he shows some signs of life at the plate in spring training.

Mon Jun 20 202211:24Lewin Diaz On The Bench Against The Mets
Miami Marlins first baseman Lewin Diaz is not in the starting lineup on Monday against New York Mets left-hander David Peterson. Diaz was recalled from the minors for the weekend series against the Mets and went 1-for-10 with a double and a run scored while starting two games. The 25-year-old should continue to start at first base against right-handed pitchers with Jesus Aguilar on the COVID-19 list. Garrett Cooper will get the nod at first base on Monday and will bat cleanup. Cooper will be a solid DFS target in the cleanup spot, as he's hitting .375 (12-for-32) with three RBI and four runs scored in eight games over the last two weeks.

Wed Jul 28 202100:45Lewin Diaz Homers On Tuesday
Miami Marlins rookie first baseman Lewin Diaz was just called up on Tuesday, got the start at first base, and hit a home run. He ended up going 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. With the Marlins getting to use a DH in Baltimore, Diaz played first base while usual Marlins first baseman Jesus Aguilar hit in the designated hitter spot. Diaz should get plenty of playing time once the Marlins jettison some of their starters at the trade deadline. He may be worth a look in deeper mixed leagues. Despite hitting only .182 so far, he still has a solid .773 OPS.
