Fri Mar 2218:08Sixto Sanchez Makes Roster In Relief Role
Miami Marlins right-hander Sixto Sanchez will be on the team's Opening Day roster, according to manager Skip Schumaker. Sanchez hasn't pitched in the big leagues since the shortened 2020 season due to multiple shoulder injuries, so the fact that he will even start in the big leagues is a modest surprise for the Fish. The 25-year-old former top prospect tossed seven scoreless Grapefruit League innings this spring while walking three and striking out four and will open his second MLB season in a relief role, which puts him off the fantasy radar for now. It's hard to predict how Sanchez will fare because of how long of a layoff he's had due to injuries. In his rookie campaign in 2023, he showed promising upside with a 3.46 ERA and 1.20 WHIP with 11 walks and 33 K's in 39 innings over just seven starts.

Wed Feb 2114:52Sixto Sanchez Faces Live Hitters Wednesday
Miami Marlins right-hander Sixto Sanchez (shoulder) faced live hitters Wednesday for the first time since last September when he appeared in a rehab game before being shut down again due to his ailing right shoulder. The rehab outing was his first appearance since the 2020 season when he tossed a 3.46 ERA for the Fish in seven starts down the stretch en route to a surprising playoff berth. However, he underwent shoulder surgery shortly after and has yet to appear in a big-league game since. Now 25, the former top prospect is out of minor league options and reportedly is not guaranteed a spot on the Opening Day roster. As a result, the Marlins would likely lose Sanchez on waivers as an attractive reclamation project for a rival club if he does not make the team.

Thu Feb 1517:48Sixto Sanchez Says He Feels 90-95 Percent Ready
Miami Marlins right-hander Sixto Sanchez (shoulder) told the media on Thursday at spring training that he feels 90 to 95 percent ready to go for the 2024 season. We'll believe it when we see it. Sanchez made his first appearance since 2020 in a rehab game with Double-A Pensacola last September but was then shut down shortly after that due to more shoulder issues. The 25-year-old is trending in the right direction in spring training this year, but fantasy managers should be highly skeptical as to whether he will be able to hold up over the course of a full season again. The Dominican hurler made seven starts in his MLB debut in 2020 and went 3-2 with a 3.46 ERA and 1.20 WHIP with 11 walks and 33 strikeouts in 39 innings. Sanchez has age on his side, but he should open the year on the waiver wire in most single-year fantasy formats.

Fri Jul 28 202320:25Sixto Sanchez Throws Bullpen
Miami Marlins right-hander Sixto Sanchez (shoulder) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session on Monday in Florida and was scheduled to throw another 20 to 25 pitches on Friday. Sanchez experienced "slight shoulder soreness" after an extended spring training game and then threw a 20-pitch session in Florida on May 30 without any pain. After that, though, he experienced yet another setback. The 24-year-old is making progress once again, but it remains to be seen as to when he'll be cleared to face live hitters or pitch in a game. He had arthroscopic shoulder surgery last October after having surgery in July of 2021 to fix a tear in the capsule of his right shoulder. It's still unlikely that Sanchez will factor into the major-league rotation in 2023.

Mon Jul 3 202316:56Sixto Sanchez Resumes Throwing Program
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sixto Sanchez (shoulder) has reportedly resumed his throwing program. The right-hander is throwing from 90-105 feet, according to Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald. He was previously shut down due to a setback with his right shoulder. The team plans to build Sanchez up slowly, so it's uncertain when he'll make it back to the big league mound. The hope is that Sanchez can contribute to the Marlins roster at some point this season, but regardless it's good to see him throwing again.

Tue Jun 20 202320:42Sixto Sanchez Still Not Throwing
Miami Marlins right-hander Sixto Sanchez (shoulder) still hasn't resumed throwing and had "slight shoulder soreness" after an extended spring training game. He then threw a 20-pitch bullpen session in Florida on May 30 without any pain, but he has since experienced yet another setback. At this point, it's fair to wonder if the 24-year-old Dominican will pitch again this season or be fully healthy. He is trying to rehab after having right-shoulder surgery, but Sanchez hasn't pitched in the majors since he made his big-league debut in 2020. In seven starts that season, he went 3-2 with a 3.46 ERA (3.50 FIP), 1.20 WHIP and 20.9 percent strikeout rate in 39 innings pitched.

Mon May 22 202321:30Sixto Sanchez To Begin Throwing From 105 Feet
Miami Marlins right-hander Sixto Sanchez (shoulder) will begin throwing from 105 feet this week. Sanchez is reportedly showing no discomfort in his pitching shoulder as he looks to work his way back from a shoulder injury that has kept him off of the field since the 2020 season. Sanchez is still a long way out from returning to the field but his progress is encouraging.

Mon Feb 27 202312:51Sixto Sanchez Throws Off Mound Monday
Miami Marlins right-hander Sixto Sanchez (shoulder) threw off a mound on Monday for the first time since reporting to spring training. The 24-year-old threw 15 fastballs during his mound session, and he's expected to throw another bullpen this Friday. He underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder last October and is slowing building up his throwing program. Sanchez also revealed recently that he lost over 40 pounds in the offseason as he attempts to get healthy for the first time since 2020. Before his injury, Sanchez was one of the more intriguing young pitching prospects, but injuries have obviously derailed him since. It's anyone's guess as to how Sanchez will perform in 2023, and he's hoping to be ready sometime this summer.

Fri Feb 24 202321:05Sixto Sanchez Not Expected To Be Ready Until Midseason
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sixto Sanchez (shoulder) continues to work his way back slowly from lingering injuries. The organization doesn't believe that Sanchez will be ready to pitch until mid-season. It's a shame, but not shocking considering Sanchez hasn't pitched since the 2020 campaign. He reportedly lost 50 pounds this offseason and appears to be in good shape. However, he'll still need to build up arm strength and prepare his body for a return to the mound. That being said, it's unlikely that Sanchez is going to have much value in redraft leagues to kick off the 2023 season.

Thu Feb 23 202320:15Sixto Sanchez To Begin Throwing Soon
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sixto Sanchez (shoulder) is expected to begin throwing off the mound next week, according to manager Skip Schumaker. The 24-year-old hasn't pitched since the 2020 season due to lingering shoulder issues. The good news is, Sanchez appears to be in great shape and ready to get back on the mound. The hope is that Sanchez can pitch in some Spring Training games and possibly be ready for Opening Day. However, the Marlins have been extremely cautious with Sanchez, so they might continue to bring him along slowly. Sanchez does have a ton of potential, but is a high-risk fantasy option in 12-team formats to begin the 2023 season.

Fri Feb 10 202313:15Sixto Sanchez Has Lost Almost 50 Pounds
Miami Marlins right-hander Sixto Sanchez (shoulder) said that he has progressed to throwing bullpen sessions and has lost 46 pounds this offseason. Sanchez said he's feeling physically stronger and hopes to land a spot on the team's Opening Day roster. Forty-six pounds is a lot. The 24-year-old had shoulder surgeries the last two years and hasn't thrown for the Fish since the shortened 2020 season. Given the long layoff, it would be somewhat of a surprise to see him in Miami's Opening Day rotation, but we'll get a better look at him during spring training action. It's anyone's guess as to what Sanchez will provide in fantasy in 2023, but he had plenty of upside before shoulder issues temporarily derailed his young career.

Thu Sep 29 202218:44Sixto Sanchez To Have Another Shoulder Surgery
Miami Marlins right-hander Sixto Sanchez (shoulder) is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic right shoulder surgery conducted by Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Oct. 5, but the Marlins anticipate him being ready for spring training next year. Hopefully this procedure will put the 24-year-old Dominican back on track to pitch for the Fish in 2023, as he's missed the last two seasons with his shoulder injury. In his rookie year in 2020, he went 3-2 with a 3.46 ERA (3.50 FIP), a 1.20 WHIP, 33 strikeouts and 11 walks in 39 innings pitched over seven starts.

Fri Aug 19 202221:46Sixto Sanchez Feels Shoulder Discomfort Wednesday
Miami Marlins right-hander Sixto Sanchez felt right shoulder discomfort while throwing batting practice at the team's spring training complex in Jupiter, Florida on Wednesday. Sanchez has been battling shoulder issues since the 2020 season. Sanchez is tentatively scheduled to throw again on Monday if his shoulder permits. The 24-year-old has gone almost two years since the last time he appeared in a game in the big leagues. Miami has been taking it slow with his rehab with Sanchez not expected to pitch in the majors in 2022.

Tue Jul 26 202215:25Sixto Sanchez To Face Hitters Saturday
Miami Marlins right-hander Sixto Sanchez (shoulder), the team's No. 5 prospect per MLB Pipeline, will toss one inning of live batting practice on Saturday. It will be his first time facing live hitters since March of last year. Sanchez had right shoulder surgery on July 20 of last year and continues to work his way back. The 23-year-old is taking things slowly in his recovery and hasn't had any setbacks, but he still has a ways to go and is not expected to pitch in the majors at all in 2022. Sanchez made his MLB debut in 2020 and had a 3.46 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 33 strikeouts in 39 innings over his first seven starts.

Thu Jul 7 202219:36Jesus Luzardo, Sixto Sanchez Slated For Bullpens
Miami Marlins left-hander Jesus Luzardo (forearm) is scheduled to throw around 35 pitches in a two-inning bullpen session on Friday. Meanwhile, right-hander Sixto Sanchez (shoulder) will throw around 30 pitches in a bullpen session on Saturday. Luzardo has been out almost two months with a left forearm strain and will likely need at least a few minor league rehab starts before he's an option to return to the team's starting rotation. In six starts before his injury, the southpaw had a 4.03 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and a 41:16 K:BB ratio in 29 innings. Sanchez, who hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2022, isn't expected to pitch this year, so he can remain on the waiver wire in single-season formats.

Tue May 17 202208:28Sixto Sanchez Begins To Throw From 90 Feet
Miami Marlins pitcher Sixto Sanchez (shoulder) has progressed to throwing from 90 feet, according to Marlins beat writer Jordan McPherson. It's been a while since we've seen Sanchez in the majors. He made seven starts for the Marlins in 2020, then missed the entirety of the 2021 season, undergoing shoulder surgery last July. He's had some setbacks in his recovery from shoulder surgery, but he appears to be on a positive progression as of now. We still don't have any idea of a timeline for the 23-year-old. His next step will be throwing live batting practice sessions.

Wed Mar 23 202217:49Sixto Sanchez On An Extended No-Throw Program
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sixto Sanchez (shoulder) told reporters on Wednesday that he is two weeks into a six-week no-throwing period. Sanchez missed all of 2021 and most of 2020 due to injury, and questions have started to pop up around the Marlins regarding the talented 23-year-old's conditioning. The upside remains sky-high on Sanchez, but if he can't stay on the mound, that upside won't matter. He's not expected to be able to pitch until midseason this year.

Thu Mar 3 202221:18Sixto Sanchez Expected To Be Out Until Midseason
Miami Marlins pitcher Sixto Sanchez (shoulder) is taking longer than expected to recover from July shoulder surgery and is not expected back until midseason. According to Jon Heyman of the MLB Network, he doesn't have a new injury, but it's taken a bit longer than initially hoped to return from shoulder surgery done in July. Then 23-year-old is unable to rehab with the team trainers, and his unavailability won't make much difference for the Marlins until the MLB lockout ends. The right-hander showed promise in 2020, posting a 3.46 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and a 33:11 K: BB over 39 innings. Sanchez missed all of the 2021 season, and his value takes a massive hit in 2022 redraft leagues.

Wed Mar 31 202112:56Despite revenue hike, Marlins' emphasis will be on prospects
MIAMI (AP) — The Miami Marlins' new deals for ballpark naming rights and local TV will provide more than $25 million in additional annual revenue, allowing CEO Derek Jeter to increase the team's perpetually small payroll. There will be no immediate spending splurge, however. “We have done a pretty good job of loading up our minor league system with a lot of prospects, and we’re going to give them an opportunity to play,” Jeter said Wednesday. “When we get to the point where we’re trying to fill some holes, we’ll do that.” Jeter's comment came shortly after the team announced that Marlins Park has been renamed loanDepot park in a multiyear agreement. LoanDepot, which already had a partnership with MLB, provides loans and is based in Southern California. The Marlins also recently signed a TV contract that more than doubles their previous agreement, which was $20 million a year. Financial terms of the ballpark naming agreement weren't disclosed. The Marlins have operated with budget constraints... [More]
Tue Jan 26 202117:41AP sources: Phillies, Realmuto agree on $115.5 million deal
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The “Sign J.T.” chants from fans gathered outside the ballpark during the pandemic-altered season and echoed by Bryce Harper and many players on the Philadelphia Phillies were loud and clear. It's happening. The Philadelphia Phillies and two-time All-Star catcher J.T. Realmuto agreed Tuesday on a $115.5 million, five-year contract, two people familiar with the deal told The Associated Press. Both people spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because Realmuto’s deal was pending a successful physical. Realmuto gets $20 million next season, of which $10 million is deferred, with $5 million each payable in 2026 and 2027. He gets $23,875,000 in each of the final four years. He does not have a no-trade provision. The deal includes a $1 million assignment bonus if traded. Realmuto's average annual salary of $23.1 million will become the highest for a catcher, topping the $23 million Joe Mauer averaged in a $184 million, eight-year deal with the Minnesota Twins that covered...
