Free-agent left-hander Kwang Hyun Kim signed a four-year deal worth $12.3 million with the SSG Landers of the Korean Baseball Organization on Monday. Kim will join fellow MLB arms Ivan Nova and Wilmer Font in the team's starting rotation after spending the last two seasons pitching for the St. Louis Cardinals. In 35 outings (28 starts) for the Cardinals over two seasons, the Korean native had a nice 2.97 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 104 strikeouts and 51 walks in 145 2/3 innings pitched. Kim went 7-7 last year with a 3.46 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in 27 games (21 starts) over 106 2/3 frames. With Major League Baseball still in a lockout, some free agents are choosing to play overseas and in Mexico.

Mon Mar 7 202216:27Kwang Hyun Kim Close To Returning To Korea
Free-agent left-handed pitcher Kwang Hyun Kim appears to be close to returning to the Korean Baseball Organization as Major League Baseball remains in a lockout since early December, according to a source. Kim pitched in Korea for 12 seasons from 2007 to 2019 before joining the St. Louis Cardinals the last two years. In his two big-league seasons in the States, the 33-year-old southpaw has been very solid, sporting a 2.97 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 104 strikeouts and 51 walks in 145 2/3 innings over 35 total appearances (28 starts) for St. Louis. Sun Aug 22 202112:53Kwang Hyun Kim Activated From Injured List
The St. Louis Cardinals activated left-handed pitcher Kwang Hyun Kim (elbow) from the 10-day injured list on Sunday before their game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Kim has pitched to a 3.36 ERA, a 4.22 FIP, 70 strikeouts, and 31 walks in 91 innings spanning 19 starts this season . The 33-year-old will be pitching out of the bullpen instead of returning to the rotation. Kim has enjoyed a solid season as a starter, but if he stays in the bullpen and doesn't work in high-leverage situations, it'll be hard to roster him in most fantasy leagues.

Fri Aug 20 202118:47Kwang Hyun Kim Feeling Good After Rehab Start
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Kwang Hyun Kim (elbow) is feeling good after a two-inning rehab start on Thursday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reported. Kim has been sidelined with elbow inflammation and missed the chance to return on August 18. The Cardinals don't have a timetable for his return, but it appears the club is just giving the veteran southpaw ample time to recover. Fantasy managers should continue stashing Kim for the time being.

Sat Aug 14 202121:52Kwang Hyun Kim Could Miss Extended Time
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Kwang Hyun Kim (elbow) is not expected to come off the injured list when first eligible. He is currently dealing with elbow inflammation and will need more time to recover. It's not surprising given elbow issues take time and the Cards aren't going to rush their 33-year-old veteran back on the field. The hope is that Kim can return by the end of August, but we'll see if that happens. Fantasy managers should keep Kim stashed on their IL for the time being.

Mon Aug 9 202117:35Kwang Hyun Kim Goes On The Injured List
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Kwang Hyun Kim (elbow) was placed on the injured list, retroactive to August 8, due to inflammation in his left elbow. Reports state that the injury has been affecting Kim for a while, which helps to explain why he hasn't been pitching as well lately. For now, it remains unclear whether this is a long-term issue or something that may only cause Kim to miss a pair of starts. Jack Flaherty (oblique) is expected back soon and will likely take Kim's spot if he's healthy.

Sun Aug 8 202102:01Kwang Hyun Kim Only Lasts Four Innings On Saturday
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Kwang Hyun Kim only made it through four innings in his start on Saturday against the Kansas City Royals. He was inefficient, but didn't pitch badly, allowing only two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three. It took Kim 83 pitches (52 strikes) to get just the 12 outs though, so he was lifted for a reliever after the fourth. The Cardinals ended up winning the game, but Kim was not credited with a decision. He'll take a 3.36 ERA into his next start.

Thu Aug 5 202122:09Kwang Hyun Kim To Start Saturday
The St. Louis Cardinals have set their rotation for the weekend and will have Kwang Hyun Kim start on Saturday to take on the Kansas City Royals. He will be receiving nine days of rest, last pitching on July 28. According to Katie Woo, there is no injury, the team just wanted to give him some extra days off. Kim has been terrific out of the Cardinal's rotation this season, posting a 3.31 ERA with a 6-6 record, although with only 67 K and 29 BB in 87 innings of work. He struggled his last outing, allowing five runs and four home runs in just 2.2 IP against the Cleveland Indians, which might have influenced the decision for the long break between starts. He continues to be a good fantasy option in leagues that count ERA, but he won't help in anything else.

Wed Jul 28 202119:42Kwang Hyun Kim Struggles On Wednesday
St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Kwang Hyun Kim struggled in his start on Wednesday against Cleveland. Kim lasted just 2 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on five hits and a walk without recording a strikeout. He took the loss, dropping his record to an even 6-6 and bringing his ERA up to 3.31. Things could certainly have been worse, as he allowed four home runs while getting just eight outs, but three of the blasts were solo shots. Kim had been excellent for a while, so this is hopefully just a bump on the road and he'll be solid again his next time out.
