Tue Sep 19 202321:59JJ Bleday Could Return Next Week
Oakland Athletics outfielder JJ Bleday (knee) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday, according to Martin Gallegos of MLB.com, and manager Mark Kotsay told reporters he could return next week if there are no setbacks. The former fourth-overall draft pick suffered an ACL sprain and hasn't played in the Majors since mid-August. Bleday has 77 games under his belt this season, and he's slashed .203/.313/.373 with 10 homers, 34 runs, 27 RBI, and five steals. He doesn't have much relevance in any format, even when healthy, so fantasy managers can ignore the 25-year-old once he's back in action.

Tue Aug 15 202323:08JJ Bleday Diagnosed With ACL Sprain
An MRI exam showed that Oakland Athletics outfielder JJ Bleday (knee) has an ACL sprain in his left knee. Manager Mark Kotsay said he doesn't want to rule out Bleday for the rest of the 2023 season, but a return this year is up in the air. The A's placed Bleday on the 10-day injured list before their game on Tuesday. The former fourth overall pick of the Miami Marlins back in 2019 has looked overmatched at the plate since making his MLB debut in 2022 with the Marlins. In 77 contests with the A's this year, he's hitting .203/.313/.373 with 10 home runs, 27 RBI, five stolen bases and 34 runs scored in 284 trips to the plate. Since the 25-year-old left-handed hitter isn't guaranteed to return in 2023, you'll probably want to look for a replacement off the waiver wire in deeper leagues.

Tue Aug 15 202316:54JJ Bleday Goes On Injured List
The Oakland Athletics placed outfielder JJ Bleday (knee) and pitcher Angel Felipe (elbow) on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and recalled pitcher Tayler Scott from Triple-A Las Vegas and reinstated catcher Carlos Perez (thumb) from the injured list in corresponding moves. Bleday is dealing with a left-knee sprain and will now miss at least the next 10 days. With the 25-year-old Bleday on the shelf, expect to see a bit more of Tony Kemp and Brent Rooker making starts in the outfield for the rebuilding A's. In just his second major-league season, and the first in Oakland, Bleday is hitting a disappointing .203/.313/.373 with 10 home runs, 11 doubles, 27 RBI, five stolen bases and 34 runs scored in 77 games (284 plate appearances).

Sun May 14 202314:16JJ Bleday Sitting Sunday
Oakland Athletics outfielder JJ Bleday is absent from Sunday's starting lineup for the game against Andrew Heaney and the Texas Rangers. The 25-year-old has been impressive with the bat over 11 games, slashing .324/.359/.649 with three homers, seven runs, and three RBI after the team promoted him in early May, but has sat against lefties. So, with southpaw Heaney on the hill, he'll get the day off in favor of catcher Carlos Perez, who'll be the designated hitter in the cleanup spot. The five-year veteran has continued to swing a hit bat, producing a .333/.400/.526 slash line with three long balls through 24 games, and he can potentially be a solid streaming option while in the middle of the club's lineup.

Wed May 3 202318:54JJ Bleday Recalled On Wednesday
Oakland Athletics outfielder JJ Bleday has been recalled from the minors ahead of Wednesday's game against the Seattle Mariners. The left-handed slugger was acquired from the Miami Marlins back in February in exchange for lefty reliever A.J. Puk. The 25-year-old has been on fire in the minor leagues early in the season. He's hitting .316/.429/.643 with seven homers and one steal in 25 games in Triple-A. He'll bat fifth and play left field versus right-hander Logan Gilbert on Wednesday.

Mon Mar 13 202312:34A's Option JJ Bleday To Triple-A
The Oakland Athletics optioned outfielder JJ Bleday to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday. Bleday is headed for some more minor-league seasoning to begin the 2023 season, but he'll surely be up with the A's at some point this year. He was acquired from the Miami Marlins in the offseason in the deal that sent left-hander A.J. Puk to the Marlins. In 11 Cactus League games with Oakland, Bleday hit .286 with a home run and a stolen base. The 25-year-old former fourth overall pick in 2019 hit a disappointing .167/.277/.309 with a .586 OPS, five home runs, 16 RBI, 21 runs scored and four stolen bases in his first 65 major-league games in 2022 with the Fish. Bleday's prospect status has surely taken a hit, but he'll eventually get another chance in Oakland.

Sat Feb 11 202320:09JJ Bleday Traded To Athletics
Miami Marlins outfielder JJ Bleday has been traded to the Oakland Athletics on Saturday. In exchange, the Marlins will receive left-hander A.J. Puk from Oakland. Bleday was unlikely to have a significant role in Miami. He hit .167/.277/.309 with five homers and four steals with the Marlins last season. The 25-year-old should get more of a chance to make an impact with the rebuilding Athletics. As for the Marlins, Puk put together a fairly strong season in 2022. He finished with a 3.12 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 76 strikeouts in 62 appearances with Oakland. The 27-year-old could end up as a high leverage bullpen option for the Marlins.

Tue Sep 27 202223:44JJ Bleday Hits Homer Tuesday
Miami Marlins outfielder JJ Bleday had the biggest swing in Tuesday's 6-4 victory over the New York Mets, a two-run home run that looked more like a lazy fly ball until it landed over the right field fence. Bleday also singled and walked in five plate appearances. The rookie has yet to find his stride at the plate, with just a .618 OPS in his first 216 plate appearances, but with five homers and four steals on the year, he still has potential to grow into an excellent all-around fantasy option over the next few seasons.

Tue Aug 30 202214:56JJ Bleday Isn't In Tuesday's Lineup
Miami Marlins outfielder JJ Bleday isn't in the team's starting lineup on Tuesday for a matchup with the Tampa Bay Rays and left-handed starter Shane McClanahan. Bleday made his Major League debut earlier this year for Miami and is batting .200 with a .313 on-base percentage, four home runs, and three stolen bases in 128 plate appearances so far this season. Peyton Burdick is hitting eighth and starting in center field instead against the Rays. The 25-year-old is batting .157 with a .253 on-base percentage, two home runs, and a stolen base in 79 plate appearances this season. Fantasy managers are probably best off looking elsewhere for streaming options given the matchup with McLanahan.

Fri May 13 202209:24JJ Bleday Struggling In Triple-A
Miami Marlins outfield prospect JJ Bleday has been off to a slow start for Triple-A Jacksonville in 2022. The Marlins first-round pick in 2019, Bleday is now hitless over his last 12 at-bats and has hit a weak .222 batting average with six home runs, 16 RBI, 32 strikeouts and 24 walks. Bleday showed up to spring training having gained 20 pounds in the offseason and it has certainly helped in his power game, but he has struggled outside of that thus far. The former Vanderbilt standout has risen through the Marlins farm system and other than the strikeouts, managers shouldn't be too concerned with plenty of time for him to get adjusted to Triple-A pitching. As long as Bleday could start to lower his strikeout rate and make more contact at the plate, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him get a chance for the Marlins in 2022. For now, he is a name to monitor in redraft leagues and a player to roster in dynasty leagues.

Tue Feb 8 202216:45JJ Bleday Bulks Up For 2022 Season
Miami Marlins outfield prospect JJ Bleday checked into the team's development camp a few weeks ago at 215 pounds, up nearly 20 pounds from the 195 he weighed at the start of spring training a year ago. "I feel more grounded when I'm a little bit bigger, have more body control," Bleday said. The fourth overall pick in 2019 had an inconsistent first full minor league season in 2021, but he finished as the Arizona Fall League's co-Hitter of the Year. Bleday will most likely start the 2022 season at Triple-A Jacksonville, but he's on the fast track to the big leagues and is certainly a name to know in dynasty/keeper leagues. The 24-year-old left-handed hitter could definitely have 30-homer power with the additional weight and his 6-foot-3 frame.
