Tue Mar 2622:35Alex Faedo Makes Opening Day Roster
Detroit Tigers right-hander Alex Faedo made the team's Opening Day roster for the first time in his career. In addition, left-hander Joey Wentz made the team out of spring training. In large part due to injuries, the 28-year-old Faedo has had an uneven two seasons in the big leagues with Detroit. He's dealt with blister and nail issues, a back strain, hip pain and had Tommy John surgery. But the former first-rounder in 2017 out of Florida was healthy in the offseason and had a 1.35 spring training ERA. Faedo is expected to work in a long-relief role, which won't give him any real fantasy value, but if he can stay healthy, he could be an important piece for Detroit's pitching staff in 2024. In his 27 big-league outings (24 starts), Faedo has a 4.94 ERA and 1.32 WHIP with 45 walks and 102 K's in 118 1/3 frames.

Thu Aug 31 202312:22Alex Faedo Being Moved To Relief Role
Detroit Tigers right-hander Alex Faedo will be moved from the starting rotation to the bullpen for now as a multi-inning reliever, according to manager A.J. Hinch. Faedo might have some "scheduled" relief outings of two to three innings and could also piggyback with left-hander Joey Wentz. It's still possible that Faedo makes a start or two in the final month of the regular season in September. The 27-year-old former first-round pick in 2017 out of Florida hasn't lived up to expectations and has gone 2-5 this year with a 4.98 ERA (5.10 FIP), 1.09 WHIP, 17 walks and 47 strikeouts in 56 innings pitched over his 11 starts for Detroit in his second big-league season. Faedo obviously will be losing what little fantasy value he had left in 2023.

Wed Aug 16 202309:45Alex Faedo Sharp In Five Scoreless Frames Tuesday
Detroit Tigers pitcher Alex Faedo was on his game Tuesday night in Minnesota where he tossed five scoreless innings while allowing just one hit, one walk, and one hit-by-pitch against six strikeouts on the night. However, despite the excellent effort, Faedo was left with a no-decision as a five-run sixth inning propelled the Twins to a 5-3 victory in Tuesday's series opener. The results largely haven't been there for the former first-round pick this season but Faedo continues to see some positive regression kick in. He has now allowed just three earned runs over his last three starts spanning 15 2/3 innings while Tuesday marked his second scoreless outing in that time. The right-hander's 4.19 SIERA and 6.1% BB% suggest he's been much better than his 5.16 ERA might suggest.

Sat Jul 22 202316:17Alex Faedo Recalled, Starting Sunday
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Alex Faedo has been recalled to take the mound against the San Diego Padres on Sunday. It doesn't sound like the Tigers plan to move anyone out of their rotation. This move is probably just to give the rest of starters an extra day to rest. Faedo holds a 6.98 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, with 28/4 K/BB ratio through six starts with Detroit this season. Fantasy managers should look elsewhere for a streaming option for Sunday's slate.

Thu Jul 6 202312:34Alex Faedo To Return And Start On Friday
Detroit Tigers right-hander Alex Faedo (finger) will return from the 15-day injured list to start on Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays, according to manager A.J. Hinch. Faedo will finally rejoin Detroit's starting rotation for the first time since late May after having surgery to remove his right middle fingernail. The 27-year-old gave up four runs on six hits in just 3 1/3 innings in his lone minor-league rehab start, so he probably isn't a candidate to go deep into his start on Friday against a tough opponent. Before going on the injured list, Faedo was 1-3 for the Tigers with a 5.54 ERA (4.52 FIP), 0.92 WHIP, two walks and 26 strikeouts in 26 innings over five starts. He should remain in the Tigers' rotation to begin the second half of the season, but fantasy managers should be looking to avoid him as a streamer on Friday.

Mon Jun 26 202319:31Alex Faedo To Start Rehab Assignment Tuesday
Detroit Tigers right-hander Alex Faedo (finger) will begin a minor-league rehab assignment with High-A West Michigan on Tuesday. Faedo had surgery to remove his right middle fingernail in late May and has been on the injured list ever since. He will most likely require a handful of rehab starts before the Tigers consider returning the 27-year-old to their starting rotation. Before having surgery, Faedo had a 5.54 ERA (4.50 FIP), but he also was sporting a solid 0.92 WHIP with only two walks and 26 strikeouts in 26 innings pitched. He should return to a role in the team's rotation when he's healthy enough. Along with Faedo, the Tigers are getting Matt Manning (foot) back on Tuesday and will also soon have Eduardo Rodriguez (finger) and Tarik Skubal (elbow) back in their rotation.

Fri Jun 23 202314:56Alex Faedo Throws On Friday
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Alex Faedo (finger) was able to throw a bullpen session on Friday. The 27-year-old has been sidelined since the end of May due fingernail issue that is causing blisters. He's back on track now, so hopefully he doesn't suffer any setbacks and feels good after this bullpen session. The hope is that Faedo can return by early July. Fantasy managers will have to check back for another update on his status.

Sat Jun 3 202313:47Alex Faedo Lands On The Injured List
Detroit Tigers right-handed pitcher Alex Faedo (finger) has been placed on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 31, with right middle finger discomfort. The 27-year-old hurler has been dealing with the issue since his last start and there was a thought that he could maybe make his next turn in the rotation but that's not happening now. Faedo owns a 1-3 record, 5.54 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and a 26:2 K/BN ratio over 26 innings (five starts) so far this season. The Tigers have yet to announce a corresponding move but they will need to add another starting pitcher.

Sat Jun 3 202312:06Alex Faedo Dealing With Fingernail Tenderness
Detroit Tigers right-hander Alex Faedo (finger) reported tenderness in his right middle fingernail after his last start on Tuesday against the Texas Rangers, when he allowed six runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out four in 4 1/3 innings in a loss. It's currently unknown if he'll be able to take the mound for his next scheduled start on Monday against the Philadelphia Phillies, and even if he does, he'll be an even riskier option for starting fantasy lineups. The 27-year-old starter has gone 1-3 with a 5.54 ERA (4.51 FIP), 0.92 WHIP, two walks and 26 strikeouts in 26 innings so far in 2023 in his five starts in just his second season in the major leagues.

Fri May 26 202303:06Alex Faedo Turns In Career-High 10 Strikeouts
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Alex Faedo tossed six innings and punched out 10 hitters in the team's 7-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday. He gave up only two runs en route to his first win of the campaign and perhaps the best start of his young career. The former first-round pick has been something of a revelation in 2023, not for his middling 4.15 ERA, but his beguiling 0.74 WHIP. Faedo has lent just one free pass across his 21.2 innings of work. Before managers flock to waiver wires to add the 27-year-old, though, consider that he has nightmarish assignment against the upstart Texas Rangers for his next start on Tuesday.

Sat May 6 202314:23Alex Faedo Will Be Activated On Sunday
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Alex Faedo (hip) will be activated on Sunday. The right-hander finished last season with a 1-5 record (12 starts), amassing a 5.53 ERA with 44 strikeouts and 25 walks. Unfortunately, he underwent surgery in July, abruptly ending his rookie campaign. That said, while dynasty managers are glad to have Faedo back, it's unknown how much work he'll receive early on. As a result, the 27-year-old may not be an ideal fantasy option until he proves he can perform at a high level. The Tigers plan to announce a corresponding roster move after Saturday's game against the Cardinals.

Tue Dec 6 202213:26Alex Faedo Expected To Be Ready For Spring Training
Detroit Tigers right-hander Alex Faedo (hip) is throwing from up to 90 feet without symptoms while working on strength, balance and range of motion in his surgically repaired right hip, according to the team. Faedo is expected to be ready for spring training next year. The 27-year-old had surgery on his right hip in late July. He made 12 starts in his rookie season in 2022, going 1-5 with a 5.53 ERA (4.62 FIP), a 1.64 WHIP, 44 strikeouts and 25 walks in 53 2/3 innings pitched. The Tigers will surely take it easy on Faedo coming off his hip surgery, but with Tarik Skubal (arm) unlikely to be ready for Opening Day, Faedo will be asked to pick up the slack to begin the year if he's fully healthy.

Mon Jul 4 202221:19Alex Faedo Dealing With Hip Soreness
Detroit Tigers pitcher Alex Faedo (hip) exited Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader against the Cleveland Guardians due to right hip soreness. He allowed three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out three over 3 2/3 innings before leaving. The 26-year-old will return to the minor leagues regardless of his injury status. He is considered day-to-day. The right-hander owns a 1-4 record with a 5.02 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, and a 42:21 K: BB across 52 innings in 2022. Faedo has struggled as of late, surrendering 17 earned runs over his last four appearances. Fantasy managers outside of deep-league formats can leave Faedo on the waiver wire.

Fri Jul 1 202219:03Alex Faedo Optioned, But Likely To Return Monday
The Detroit Tigers optioned starting pitcher Alex Faedo to Triple-A on Friday. The move was made to clear a roster spot for Michael Pineda (finger), who was activated from the 15-day injured list to start Friday's game against the Kansas City Royals. According to Tigers manager A.J. Hinch, Faedo's demotion was a strategic move to "lengthen out Alex's season." Hinch also added that Faedo would likely be back with the team for their upcoming doubleheaders on July 4 and July 11. The 26-year-old has seen his first MLB action this year. He had a strong 2.92 ERA over his first seven starts, but he really fell apart after that. Over his last three outings, he allowed a total of 14 earned runs over 11.1 innings.

Mon Jun 13 202214:19Alex Faedo Finding Success Early For Tigers
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Alex Faedo has enjoyed a strong start to his Major League career. The 26-year-old made his debut in the Majors earlier this season and has logged seven starts for Detroit. In those seven outings, he's pitched to a 2.92 ERA and a 3.92 FIP while striking out 28 batters and allowing just 11 walks. In his most recent start, the former first-round pick struck out seven over five innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates, surrendering just three hits, an earned run, a home run, and a walk. His next scheduled start is on Wednesday against the Chicago White Sox.

Mon May 16 202213:31Alex Faedo Called Up To Start Monday
The Detroit Tigers recalled right-hander Alex Faedo from Triple-A Toledo on Monday in order for him to start in the series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays. In corresponding moves, the Tigers placed outfielders Austin Meadows (illness) and Victor Reyes (quadriceps) on the 10-day injured list and recalled outfielder Daz Cameron from Toledo. Faedo, the team's No. 16 prospect per MLB Pipeline, will be making only his third major league start. In his first two outings this year, the 26-year-old right-hander allowed four earned runs on 12 hits while walking three and striking out eight in 10 innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates and Oakland Athletics. The Rays will be a tougher opponent, but Faedo also lines up for a two-start week if he isn't sent back to the minors after his start on Monday.

Tue May 3 202215:49Alex Faedo To Make MLB Debut Wednesday
Detroit Tigers right-hander Alex Faedo, the team's No. 16 prospect per MLB Pipeline, will be the Tigers 27th man for Wednesday's doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates and will make his major league debut in Game 2. Faedo underwent Tommy John surgery in 2019 and didn't pitch at all the last two seasons. The 26-year-old has allowed just three earned runs while walking three and striking out 20 in 15 2/3 innings for Single-A Lakeland and Triple-A Toledo this year over four outings (two starts). The former first-round pick has plenty of upside at the next level, but it wouldn't be a surprise if Detroit sends him back down to the minors after his spot start against Pittsburgh on Wednesday.
