RHP Blake Wood has thrown 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief in four games on the current homestand. He threw one scoreless inning in a 4-2 loss to the Rangers on Sunday. Wood was claimed off waivers from the Reds on Aug. 25.

RHP Blake Wood was activated on Saturday and made his debut against the Houston Astros, a day after the reliever was claimed on waivers from the Cincinnati Reds. He pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning to earn the victory in the 7-6 win. Wood, 32, had a 5.65 ERA and three holds in 55 appearances covering 57 1/3 innings this season. He had a team-leading 15 holds for the Reds last season, finishing with a 3.99 ERA in 76 2/3 innings.

RHP Blake Wood was designated for assignment on Wednesday, the day after a nightmarish eighth inning against the Chicago Cubs when he allowed five earned runs, three hits and three walks. He also tossed a wild pitch that struck the home plate umpire. "He's been our most durable pitcher," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "He took the ball every time we asked, often after going two innings the day before. The bulk of his work here has been positive, but his recent performance led to this." Tuesday was the second straight rough outing for Wood, who gave up four earned runs and four hits, including a homer, while facing just three Braves batters on Saturday.

His value has spiked since last year. He's an extremely valuable piece to us."

RHP Blake Wood went on the paternity list Tuesday and can be away for three days. He has a 3.57 ERA over 33 appearances this season.

RHP Blake Wood worked out of a bases-loaded mess he created with no outs in the ninth inning on two walks and a hit Tuesday, recording his first save of the season. He got a strikeout and double play to end the 3-1 victory. Wood had pitched two scoreless innings Monday, but was called on again because closer Tony Cingrani worked in five of the previous seven games.

RHP Blake Wood had a 6.92 ERA in nine appearances in spring training. He finished strong enough to earn a spot on the big-league roster. "I would imagine he thought that opportunity was slipping away a little bit," said manager Bryan Price. "What made a big difference for me is Delino DeShields coming to me and saying, "This guy was really good at Triple-A last season. He's better than what you're seeing". Wood has big-league experience, having made 115 appearances for the Royals and Indians.

Wood has 14 saves and a 2.82 ERA in 22.1 innings for the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians.

The 29-year-old has pitched well since taking over closer duties from John Holdzkom, who is currently on the disabled list. Wood has one career save in the major leagues, but the Bucs have shown an ability to resurrect careers. It's possible Wood makes an appearance in Pittsburgh's pen sometime this summer, though his role probably wouldn't involve many counting stats.

Wood was reassigned to minor-league camp Tuesday.

A non-roster invitee to spring training, Wood was never more than a long shot to earn a spot in the Opening Day bullpen. If he is eventually called up to the Pirates, he'll likely be used in low-leverage situations.

Wood signed a minor league deal with the Pirates on Tuesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune reports.

Wood was scooped up by the Royals last season after being designated for assignment by the Indians in May, but the right-hander was never able to ascend to the big league level after recording a 6.38 ERA over 18.1 innings at Triple-A Omaha. He'll now receive an opportunity to compete for a bullpen spot in Pittsburgh, though if he earns a job, it will likely be in middle relief.

Wood was outrighted to Triple-A Omaha on Thursday, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.

Wood went unclaimed off waivers after he was designated for assignment earlier in the month. He'll be a free agent in the offseason and will look to land a minor league contract.

Wood will join Chris Dwyer as the two who will give up their spots on the 40-man roster for Carlos Peguero and Brandon Finnegan, whose contracts were selected by the Royals on Monday. He will have to pass through waivers and then will likely stick with Triple-A Omaha.

Wood was designated for assignment by Cleveland last Tuesday. He allowed five earned runs in 6 1/3 innings for the Indians and probably won't suddenly find success with the Royals. The right-hander was a third-round pick of Kansas City in the 2006 MLB Amateur Draft.

Wood, who missed all of 2012 and most of 2013 coming back from Tommy John surgery, posted a 0.93 ERA and 11/6 K/BB ratio over 9 2/3 innings this spring. He'll pitch in middle relief.
