Royals optioned LHP Noel Arguelles from Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
The 23-year-old Cuban defector has failed to live up to expectations to this point in his Royals career. He posted a 6.41 ERA over 25 starts at the Double-A level in 2012, and clearly needs much more seasoning before he's even a consideration for the big league roster.

The Royals have optioned pitching prospect Noel Arguelles from Single-A Wilmington to the Arizona Rookie League after the left reached his innings limit for the season.
The Royals signed the Cuban defector to a five-year, $7 million contract last January before he missed all of last year while recovering from shoulder surgery. The demoted effectively ends his season, as he posted a 3.20 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 64/24 K/BB ratio over 104 innings for Wilmington in his first taste of pro ball. "It was a great year for him," said Scott Sharp, the club's director of minor-league operations. "But he's been throwing a long time. We think he's had enough innings."

Royals manager Ned Yost said Tuesday that prospect left-hander Noel Arguelles (shoulder) is on schedule to face live hitters during the next few weeks.
Arguelles missed the entire 2010 season with a shoulder injury that eventually required surgery last August. The Cuban defector already has a couple bullpen sessions under his belt and expects to throw another one this week. "I'm feeling so much better and it feels great to be throwing again," said Arguelles. "I'm really hoping that I will be able to start the season completely healthy. I'll pitch where the team wants me to pitch. I know they are taking care of me and will decide what is best." Arguelles has yet to throw his first professional pitch since signing a five-year, $7 million contract with the Royals last January.

Fri Feb 18 201121:23Yost impressed with Arguelles bullpen session
Royals manager Ned Yost was impressed with Noel Arguelles' (shoulder) bullpen session Friday.
The Cuban defector missed the entire 2010 season with a shoulder injury that eventually required surgery, but he's on the road to recovery. "He's coming along great -- really, really good," Yost said. "His whole demeanor is totally different than it was last spring. I don't know if he was battling through it (sore shoulder), but he feels good and he's on his way." Signed to a five-year, $7 million contract last January, Arguelles is an intriguing talent that could be added to the embarrassment of riches in the Royals' farm system if he shows he's over his shoulder woes.

Fri Sep 17 201021:53Arguelles to begin throwing by January
Royals GM Dayton Moore said that Noel Arguelles (shoulder surgery) should be able to begin throwing by early January.
Arguelles had surgery last month to repair the labrum in his left shoulder. The Royals signed the highly-regarded Cuban defector for nearly $7 million in January, but he has yet to pitch in the minor leagues due to the shoulder issue. Moore says the team has no regrets about signing him. "We were comfortable with the physical exams," Moore said. "It's just one of those things. The good news is he's young and strong, and we're confident he's going to overcome it."
