Arguelles has been released by the Royals, Baseball America's Matt Eddy reports.

Arguelles signed a five-year, $7 million contract in 2009 when he was only 19 years old. While still only 25, the Cuban lefty has never had much luck above the High-A level.

Arguelles is still young, but the Royals may decide to do without him on the 40-man roster next year. Kansas City signed the southpaw to an ill-fated five-year, $7 million contract in 2010.

The good news is he's young and strong, and we're confident he's going to overcome it."
