Thu Nov 2 202321:53Padres Reunite With Tucupita Marcano
The San Diego Padres claimed infielder/outfielder Tucupita Marcano (knee) off waivers on Thursday from the Pittsburgh Pirates. In a corresponding move, the Padres outrighted catcher Chandler Seagle and right-hander Drew Carlton off their 40-man roster. Marcano will return to the Padres organization after spending his rookie MLB campaign with the Friars in 2021. He will not be ready for the start of the 2024 season after undergoing surgery to fix a torn ACL in his right knee, though. The 24-year-old hit .233/.276/.356 with a career-high three home runs, 12 doubles, two triples, 18 RBI, five stolen bases and 16 runs scored in his 75 games with Pittsburgh in 2023. Marcano is off the fantasy radar and is merely organizational position-player depth for SD going into next year.

Sun Jul 30 202319:38Tucupita Marcano Likely To Undergo Surgery
Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Tucupita Marcano (knee) was forced to exit early during Monday's game due to a right knee injury. He underwent further testing and the outcome is not favorable for the 23-year-old infielder. Marcano has suffered a significant right knee injury that is likely going to result in surgery. It sounds like there is a good chance that Marcano is done for the season. Right now, he's slashing .233/.276/.356 with three home runs and 18 RBI with five steals in 53 games. Fantasy managers who are rostering him in redraft formats can start looking for a replacement.

Tue Jul 25 202308:16Tucupita Marcano Suffers Knee Injury Monday
Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Tucupita Marcano left Monday's 8-4 win over the San Diego Padres early after suffering a "ligamentous injury" in his right knee, according to Jason Mackey of the Post-Gazette. He'll undergo further testing, and then there should be a better idea of the severity of the ailment. If Marcano does need time on the injured list, fantasy managers won't miss his production, as he's slashing .233/.276/.356 with three home runs, 16 runs, 18 RBI, and five steals over 75 games. The 23-year-old continues to be irrelevant in all formats.

Tue May 23 202314:18Tucupita Marcano Enjoys Massive Night Monday
Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Tucupita Marcano had a big night at the plate Monday as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Texas Rangers by a 6-4 final. Marcano went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk, four RBI, and a stolen base on the night. It was the first multi-hit effort for the 23-year-old since back on April 30 while he had collected just two hits over his last three contests. For the season, Marcano is hitting .268 with two homers, two stolen bases, and a .787 OPS across 31 games while striking out in just 12% of his plate appearances. He should continue to see regular playing time given his production at the plate, even if his defense has been subpar to begin his big-league career.

Mon Apr 10 202322:19Tucupita Marcano Faring Well In Minors
Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Tucupita Marcano may not have true prospect status after playing 74 MLB games between 2021 and 2022, but he is still a high-end minor leaguer with the potential to make an impact very soon. The middle infielder lacks power but has shown a tendency to avoid strikeouts and put the ball in play, all while displaying his speed on the basepaths. The 23-year-old has impressive bat-to-ball skills, which suggests that he can still be a very strong option off the bench even if he doesn't have an everyday starting role in the majors. Marcano also has great defensive IQ, smooth hands, and impressive range. Marcano is coming off a big week in which he went 10-for-19 (.526) with five doubles, one triple, one homer, and seven RBI. After just seven games, he is already knocking on the door of the majors and earning a promotion sooner rather than later as the Pirates look to inject some youth into their roster.

Thu Jun 30 202216:27Tucupita Marcano Activated From COVID-19 Injured List
The Pittsburgh Pirates activated infielder Tucupita Marcano from the COVID-19 injured list on Thursday. In a corresponding move, fellow infielder Yu Chang was designated for assignment. Marcano has split the 2022 season between Double-A and the majors. He's appeared in 19 games with the Pirates this year and has slashed .262/.318/.410 with two home runs, five RBI and nine runs. He has a chance to push Hoy Park for the everyday second baseman role on the team. Otherwise, he may end up as a utility man.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. and first baseman Eric Hosmer of the San Diego Padres were activated from the injured list after passing COVID-19 protocols prior to Wednesday's game against the Colorado Rockies. Tatis tested positive prior to a game at Colorado on May 11 and Hosmer was pulled from that game due to contract tracing protocols. DENVER (AP) — San Diego star Fernando Tatis Jr. and outfielder Wil Myers have tested positive for COVID-19 while first baseman Eric Hosmer and two backups are now out for contact tracing, leaving the Padres shorthanded at Coors Field. Padres manager Jayce Tingler said he hoped the fallout from the virus would stop and anticipated San Diego could play a doubleheader as scheduled Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies. Hosmer and Myers both were pulled out in the middle of the Padres' 8-1 win over the Rockies on Tuesday night. “Wil tested positive for COVID and that’s why he had to leave the game," Tingler said. Hosmer exited in accordance with Major League Baseball's health and safety protocols. “Obviously it’s not ideal but I want to give credit to our guys tonight. We had a lot of hectic things going on. We had a short bench and everybody stepped up and filled in," Tingler said. The Padres also were missing infielder-outfielders Jurickson Profar and Jorge Mateo. Tingler said he learned... [More]

And it was good to kind of see him over Facetime, and he’s feeling well. I mean he is crushed, he’s crushed inside, mentally, things like that. “At the same time, for our guys here, we have a chance to pick him up. We’ve got a chance to pick it up up a little bit. We’re coming off a fairly decent offensive game. Look, it’s a blow, but we’ve got the guys. It’s not going to be one guy having to carry a lot of things. It’s going to be a lot... [More]

Fri Apr 16 202121:48Padres activate Tatis ahead of big series against Dodgers
SAN DIEGO (AP) — San Diego Padres star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. was activated from the 10-day injured list Friday in time for the opener of a highly anticipated series against the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Tatis had been out since suffering a partially dislocated left shoulder while taking a violent swing on April 6. Tatis was in the starting lineup and batting second for the Padres, whose first playoff run in 14 seasons ended when they were swept by the Dodgers in the NL Division Series in October. While Tatis' injury startled the Padres and their fans, team officials said doctors assured them the electrifying 22-year-old couldn't do any further damage to the shoulder if he continued playing this season. Tatis has been dealing with left shoulder discomfort since his minor league days and came out of a game in spring training after making a backhanded play and throwing to first. He was back two days later. Manager Jayce Tingler said that while the team won't... [More]
