Fri Apr 2616:26Masyn Winn Getting A Breather
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn is getting the day off on Friday versus the New York Mets on the road. It's a standard rest day for Winn after he started the previous nine games. He's off to a great start in 2024 with a .313/.385/.418 slash line with an .803 OPS, no home runs, three doubles, two triples, six RBI, four stolen bases and nine runs scored in his first 23 games in his first full season as the team's starting shortstop. Despite the strong start, he's barely hitting over .200 in his last nine contests, so the rest day is warranted. The 22-year-old should be back in there on Saturday. Veteran Brandon Crawford is at the 6 and is batting eighth on Friday against Mets right-hander Jose Butto. Crawford will be facing Butto for the first time in his career.

Wed Apr 1012:09Paul Goldschmidt, Masyn Winn Resting Against Phillies
St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and shortstop Masyn Winn are both getting a breather on Wednesday against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies. Alec Burleson is playing first base and batting sixth, while Brandon Crawford is at the 6 and is hitting seventh against Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola. The 36-year-old Goldschmidt could use the break after putting up a weak .544 OPS to begin the 2024 season. Meanwhile, Winn has been consistent so far in his first full season as the Cardinals' starting shortstop, going 11-for-33 (.333) with a double, triple, three RBI and a stolen base in 11 games. Neither Burleson nor Crawford will be very strong DFS plays against Nola. Burleson is hitting .167 with an RBI in six at-bats against Nola, while Crawford is hitting .200 with three RBI in 15 career at-bats.

Wed Apr 315:58Masyn Winn Taking The Day Off Wednesday
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn and outfielder Alec Burleson are both out of the starting lineup on Wednesday for the series finale against the San Diego Padres. Brandon Crawford is getting the start at shortstop and is batting seventh, while Brendan Donovan is leading off and playing left field against Padres right-hander Joe Musgrove. Winn has looked good so far in his first full season as the team's primary shortstop, going 5-for-16 (.313) with an RBI, stolen base and two runs scored in 19 plate appearances through the first five games of the season. Donovan is the much more intriguing DFS play on Wednesday over the veteran Crawford, and he's picked up seven hits in his first 24 at-bats on the year with a home run, six RBI and six runs scored.

Tue Feb 2715:38Masyn Winn Still The Team's Starter At Shortstop
The St. Louis Cardinals have told young infielder Masyn Winn that he's still in line to be the starter at shortstop in 2024 despite the signing of veteran shortstop Brandon Crawford on Monday. President of baseball operations John Mozeliak said "this is Masyn's job." Crawford, who has been a liability on offense the last two years, is merely a veteran insurance policy for the 21-year-old Winn. The youngster hasn't looked very good so far in spring training, though, and he also hit just .172/.230/.238 in 37 games in his major-league debut with the Cardinals in 2023. The former second-rounder in 2020 is still pretty young, though, and he did hit .288 with 18 homers and 17 steals in 105 games for Triple-A Memphis. We are expecting better results in his first full season in the majors, and his ability to make contact and his speed on the basepaths stand out the most.

Sun Feb 2519:16Masyn Winn Looks Strong In Return
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (back) returned to the starting lineup after missing the first few spring contests. The young infielder looked ready to go as he went 3-for-3 with a double and a steal during Sunday's game against the Houston Astros. It doesn't appear that the back tightness was impacting his performance at all. Winn will probably find himself towards the bottom of the lineup to begin the season. He might not be a must-have player right away, but Winn is someone to keep on the radar.

Fri Feb 2314:20Masyn Winn Resumes Full Activities
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (upper body) resumed full baseball activities on Friday after being held out of batting practice for two consecutive days due to tightness. The 21-year-old struggled through limited big-league action (37 games) as a rookie last year, but perhaps he'll benefit from additional reps as a projected starter heading into the 2024 campaign. He remains an appealing player at the plate while boasting impressive defensive skills (including a very strong, powerful arm).

Fri Feb 2301:18Masyn Winn Sidelined From Batting Practice
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (upper body) has missed batting practice for two consecutive days due to tightness, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Although any sort of injury this early in Spring Training can trigger alarms, Goold notes that Winn "expects to be back Friday." The 21-year-old struggled through limited big-league action (37 games) as a rookie last year, but he remains an appealing player at the plate with impressive defensive skills (including a very strong, powerful arm).

Fri Aug 18 202316:34Masyn Winn Hitting Ninth In Big-League Debut
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop prospect Masyn Winn is making his major-league debut on Friday against the visiting New York Mets, playing shortstop and batting ninth in the order. The club's top prospect, per MLB Pipeline, was called up from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday night and is expected to take over primary duties at the 6 in St. Louis for the rest of the season. He earned the promotion by hitting .288 (128-for-445) with 18 home runs, 15 doubles, seven triples, 61 RBI, 17 stolen bases and 99 runs scored in 105 games for Memphis this year. The 21-year-old is projected to be the Cards' shortstop of the future, so we'll get an early look at end to close out 2023. Winn won't be as attractive if he stays at the bottom of the lineup, but he's worth considering in fantasy leagues off the waiver wire for his speed alone.

Fri Aug 18 202300:18Cardinals Bring Up Top Prospect Masyn Winn
The St. Louis Cardinals selected the contract of top shortstop prospect Masyn Winn from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday. He'll take the roster spot of outfielder Lars Nootbaar (abdomen), who is going on the 10-day injured list. Winn, the team's top prospect per MLB Pipeline, gets the call to the bigs after hitting .283/.356/.465 with an .821 OPS, 17 home runs, 15 doubles, seven triples, 60 RBI, 17 stolen bases and 97 runs scored in 104 games for Memphis. The 21-year-old should be an immediate pickup in fantasy leagues as a potential five-tool contributor at a premium position for the Red Birds. With the Cardinals playing out the string in a lost season, Winn should handle regular duties at shortstop the rest of the way in 2023.

Mon Aug 7 202312:43Masyn Winn Dealing With Glute Strain
St. Louis Cardinals top prospect Masyn Winn (glute) left Sunday's game with Triple-A Memphis after the sixth inning with what president of baseball operations John Mozeliak described as a "mild glute strain." The 21-year-old was hurt after stepping on first base awkwardly, and he went 0-for-3 with a strikeout before being replaced at shortstop. For the season, Winn has hit .284 with an .822 OPS, 17 hope runs, 15 doubles, six triples and 59 RBI at Memphis. He's also 17-for-19 on stolen base attempts. Given how dominant Winn has been this year on the farm, there's a very good chance he'll get called up to the big leagues for the final month of the regular season in September.

Sat May 6 202317:29Masyn Winn Hits Two Home Runs
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop prospect Masyn Winn hit his third and fourth homers in a game for Triple-A Memphis. He is slashing a modest .252/.333/.397 through 31 games but has a .357 average in his last 10 games. His elite speed has been on show this season with 10 stolen bases. While the Cardinals are struggling with a 10-23 record, and Winn has been taking reps at second base, the infield is not currently a position of need for them. With this being his first season at Triple-A, the Cardinals will take their time with the 21-year-old, so it's best to avoid Winn in redraft leagues.

Thu Apr 13 202310:36Masyn Winn Hits First Homer
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop prospect Masyn Winn went 3-for-6 with two runs and a two-run homer for Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday. The homer would be his first of the season. Winn, 21, has been off to a sluggish start this season, but things are starting to turn around for the Cardinals top prospect with Jordan Walker graduating to the big-league club. For the season, Winn is now hitting .227 with one home run, five RBI and four stolen bases. The Cardinals have one of the deepest rosters in all of baseball, so it's more likely than not that Winn will continue to get seasoning down on the farm. Dynasty managers should hold onto Winn and managers in redraft leagues can avoid for now. If Winn were to get a promotion this year, he would be an intriguing add with his ability to help on the basepaths and adding some pop in his bat.

Wed Apr 5 202308:55Masyn Winn Picks Up Three Hits
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop prospect Masyn Winn went 3-for-5 with a triple and two runs on Tuesday for Triple-A Memphis. Winn, 21, had an impressive spring for the Cardinals and is making his debut in Triple-A this year. The Cardinals have one of the deepest rosters in the league, so Winn should be expected to continue to get more seasoning on the farm. That being said, he is a one of the top shortstop prospects in the game and could find his way to the big-league club via an injury or September call-up. For now, Winn should be rostered in dynasty leagues and managers in redraft leagues should remember his name for 2024.

Thu Mar 9 202314:12Masyn Winn Impressing In Camp
St. Louis Cardinals shortstop prospect Masyn Winn has been turning heads in spring training so far. So far in Grapefruit League play, he's gone 7-for-18 (.389) with a homer, double, two RBI, five runs scored and three stolen bases in seven games played. It's nice to see, but the 20-year-old has yet to play at the Triple-A level on the farm and is expected to begin the 2023 season in the minor leagues for more seasoning. According to MLB Pipeline, Winn is listed as St. Louis' No. 2 prospect behind third baseman Jordan Walker, who is also impressing this spring. Winn probably won't be worth drafting in redraft fantasy leagues this year, but he could have the full-time starting gig at the 6 in St. Louis by 2024.

Mon Mar 6 202315:31Masyn Winn Shows Patience On Monday
Hitting first for the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday, shortstop prospect Masyn Winn went 0-for-2 with a strikeout and a pair of walks. Winn has been off to a nice start this spring with six hits over his first 15 at-bats. He has also scored four runs to go along with a homer, two RBI and a pair of stolen bases. Behind third baseman Jordan Walker, Winn is the best prospect in the Cardinals system. Winn has always had elite defense, but he improved his patience at the plate and started elevating the ball more in 2022. This was evident with a .283 batting average to go along with 12 homers, 63 RBI and 43 stolen bases between High-A and Double-A. The Cardinals currently have infielder Tommy Edman slated to be the Opening Day shortstop with veteran Paul DeJong also on the roster and their current situation presents a hard situation for Winn to make the big-league squad. Managers in dynasty leagues should consider stashing the speedy shortstop, while redraft managers shouldn't expect much out of Winn for now with no clear path to playing time.

Tue May 24 202212:07Michael McGreevy, Masyn Winn Promoted To Double-A
The St. Louis Cardinals promoted right-handers Michael McGreevy and Gordon Graceffo and shortstop Masyn Winn from High-A Peoria to Double-A Springfield on Tuesday. McGreevy, the team's No. 8 prospect per MLB Pipeline, had allowed only 13 earned runs while walking four and striking out 41 in 45 1/3 innings over his eight starts for Peoria. Wynn, the team's No. 5 prospect, was hitting a cool .349/.404/.566 with a .970 OPS, one home run, seven triples, 11 doubles, 15 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 33 games played. Graceffo, the club's No. 22 prospect, had a microscopic 0.99 ERA, 0.68 WHIP, four walks and 56 K's in 45 2/3 innings over his eight starts.
