Thu Apr 1812:06Logan O'Hoppe, Aaron Hicks Out Against Rays
Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe and outfielder Aaron Hicks will both start on the bench for Thursday's series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays. It's not surprise that O'Hoppe is out for the day game following a night game. Matt Thaiss is doing the catching and batting fifth, while Mickey Moniak is in right field and batting sixth against Rays right-hander Ryan Pepiot. Neither Thaiss nor Moniak have faced Pepiot in their careers. O'Hoppe has been very hot to start the year, going 18-for-53 (.340) with two home runs and seven RBI in his first 16 games, while Hicks has been the opposite, going 7-for-44 (.159) with a homer and four RBI in his first 13 games with the Halos. Hicks has started just one of the team's last four games and is losing fantasy value quickly in AL-only leagues.

Wed Apr 1015:24Logan O'Hoppe, Anthony Rendon Resting Against Rays
Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe, third baseman Anthony Rendon and first baseman Nolan Schanuel are all on the bench on Wednesday versus the Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Zack Littell. Matt Thaiss is catching and batting eighth, Miguel Sano is at third base and hitting fifth, and Brandon Drury is at first base and batting in the six-hole for the Halos. Luis Rengifo is also at the keystone and hitting leadoff on Wednesday. Rengifo will gain some DFS appeal in this one while hitting atop the order. The 27-year-old Venezuelan infielder has been the odd-man out on the Angels' infield so far early this year, but he's been good when active, going 8-for-22 (.364) with two doubles, two RBI and two stolen bases in 23 plate appearances.

Sat Apr 609:14Logan O'Hoppe Blasts A Grand Slam Friday
Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe hit his first home run of the year on Friday, a game-tying grand slam in the sixth inning of an eventual 8-6 loss to the Red Sox. O'Hoppe finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored. The 24-year-old is off to a hot start, going 9-for-20 (.450) with a double, a triple, a home run, six RBI, four runs scored, and a 3:4 BB:K. This is just what fantasy managers were hoping for when they drafted him for upside at a traditionally offensively-challenged position. Earlier this year, manager Ron Washington stated he wanted to get O'Hoppe 125-135 starts at catcher, but he could get even more if some days at DH were sprinkled in too. The youngster hit 14 home runs last season in just 51 games with a 15.6% Barrel%, so a big year could certainly be in store for him.

Mon Apr 116:31Logan O'Hoppe Gets First Day Off
Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe is getting his first day off on Monday as the team takes on the Miami Marlins. O'Hoppe started each of the team's first three games over the weekend and went 3-for-7 with an RBI, run scored and two walks. The 24-year-old will be the Angels' primary catcher throughout the season, barring injury. With O'Hoppe getting his first breather of 2024, Matt Thaiss will get the nod behind the dish on Monday and hit seventh versus Marlins right-hander Max Meyer. Thaiss will merely be a low-upside sleeper in DFS on Monday in his first start of the year. The 28-year-old left-handed-hitting backstop hit .214/.319/.340 with a career-high nine home runs and 31 RBI in 95 games for the Angels last season.

Thu Feb 2916:15Angels Want Logan O'Hoppe To Catch 125-135 Games
Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington said that he'd like to see catcher Logan O'Hoppe catch roughly 125 to 135 games this year. The Angels are fully expecting O'Hoppe to be their regular backstop in 2024 despite the fact that he missed almost four months in 2023 with a torn labrum in his left shoulder. Still, the offensive upside is very intriguing for fantasy managers in single-catcher setups, as O'Hoppe managed to club 14 long balls and drive in 29 runs in only 199 plate appearances over 51 games in 2023. Nine of the 24-year-old's home runs came in the final month of the season. Because of his weak defensive skills, O'Hoppe could eventually become a full-time designated hitter, but for now, he has top-12 upside at the weak catcher position for his power alone.

Tue Sep 12 202312:49Logan O'Hoppe Stays Hot In Win Over Seattle
Los Angeles Angels rookie catcher Logan O'Hoppe stayed hot at the plate on Monday night in the team's 8-5 extra-inning win over the Seattle Mariners by going 3-for-5 with two home runs, a double, three RBI, two runs scored and a strikeout. O'Hoppe has enjoyed the month of September so far, going 11-for-35 (.314) with five home runs, two doubles, eight RBI and six runs scored in 10 games (nine starts). The hot stretch has raised the 23-year-old backstop's season line up to .242/.296/.524 with an .820 OPS, 10 home runs, 22 RBI and 13 runs scored. O'Hoppe missed significant time earlier in the season due to injury, but he'll continue to serve as the Halos' primary catcher the rest of the way. Ride him while he's hot.

Fri Aug 18 202318:21Logan O'Hoppe Activated And Playing On Friday
Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe (shoulder) has been activated from the 60-day injured list on Friday. O'Hoppe will make his return after missing the last four months due to a torn labrum in his left shoulder. He'll be behind the plate and bat fifth in his return versus the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday. O'Hoppe is slashing .283/.339/.547 with four home runs and 13 RBI over 15 games with the Angels this season. Fantasy managers should double check the waiver wire. Tue Aug 15 202300:18Logan O'Hoppe To Continue Rehabbing At Triple-A
Los Angeles Angels rookie catcher Logan O'Hoppe (shoulder) will continue his recovery from a torn left (non-throwing) labrum in his shoulder with Triple-A Salt Lake City. Manager Phil Nevin said the plan is for the 23-year-old to catch back-to-back days and that it will likely be one or two weeks before he is ready to rejoin the team. O'Hoppe had a promising start to the season, slashing .283/.339/.547 with four home runs and 13 RBI in 59 plate appearances. He could be a helpful fantasy player down the stretch in a weak position if he can return fully healthy.

Tue Aug 8 202319:59Logan O'Hoppe To Start Rehab Assignment Tuesday
Los Angeles Angels rookie catcher Logan O'Hoppe (shoulder) will start a minor-league rehab assignment with Single-A Inland Empire on Tuesday after he progressed to taking batting practice indoors on July 29. O'Hoppe is likely to need the full 20 days on his rehab assignment before he's activated from the injured list. He was diagnosed with a torn left (non-throwing) labrum in his shoulder on April 23 and had surgery two days later. The 23-year-old backstop should return for the Halos later this month or in early September for their stretch run. He figures to at least be in the mix for semi-regular playing time behind the dish when he's back after he went 15-for-53 (.283) with four home runs and 13 RBI in 16 games earlier this year.

Wed Aug 2 202312:23Logan O'Hoppe To Start Rehab Assignment Next Week
Los Angeles Angels rookie catcher Logan O'Hoppe (shoulder) will start a minor-league rehab assignment next week, but he will likely need the full 20 days before he returns to the big leagues, according to manager Phil Nevin. O'Hoppe, the team's top prospect per MLB Pipeline, is attempting to return after having surgery in April to fix a torn labrum in his left, non-throwing shoulder. If he can avoid any setbacks on his rehab assignment, the Halos should get him back near the end of August. Until then, Matt Thais and Chad Wallach will split the catching duties in Anaheim. O'Hoppe had earned regular playing time behind the dish for the Angels before his injury, batting .283 (15-for-53) with four home runs and 13 RBI in 16 games to begin the 2023 campaign.

Wed Jul 19 202321:34Logan O'Hoppe Trending Toward Return This Year
Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe (shoulder) is trending toward a return this season, according to manager Phil Nevin. O'Hoppe suffered a labrum tear in his shoulder, but the speed of his progress has made the Angels optimistic that he can play again in 2023. However, there remains no timetable for his return. The 23-year-old had surgery on his left (non-throwing) shoulder back in late April. The fact that the injury is to his non-throwing shoulder is making it possible for O'Hoppe to come back. O'Hoppe resumed hitting off a tee last weekend and was doing catching drills on Wednesday, so fantasy managers might want to scoop him up if he's available on your league's waiver wire. He was hitting .283 (15-for-53) with four home runs, 13 RBI and five runs scored at the time of his injury as the Angels' primary backstop.

Sun Jul 16 202310:11Logan O'Hoppe Slowly Progressing, Hits Off Tee Saturday
Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe (shoulder) hit off a tee on Saturday. The 23-year-old took dry swings on July 4, so this is another step in the right direction. O'Hoppe hopes to do some fielding next week, too. The No. 1 Angels prospect has been downed since April 21 after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. Fantasy managers should probably not expect O'Hoppe to return before the end of August with a ways to go still remaining in his recovery. The rookie backstop brandished a power stick in limited action this season, slashing .283/.339/.547 with four home runs and 16 RBI across 53 at-bats.

Wed Jun 21 202321:41Logan O'Hoppe Doing Light Throwing
Los Angeles Angels rookie catcher Logan O'Hoppe (shoulder) started doing some very light throwing on Wednesday after having surgery on his non-throwing shoulder. However, he's still not catching the throws back with his left arm. O'Hoppe has a long ways to go in his recovery, but the 23-year-old is still holding out hopes that he can return at some point for the Angels in the second half of the season. He was just starting to get going at the plate before going down with his injury, slashing .283/.339/.547 with an .886 OPS, four home runs, two doubles and 13 RBI in his first 16 games of the 2023 season. With O'Hoppe sidelined, the Angels have been using a combination of Chad Wallach and Matt Thaiss behind the dish.

Sun Apr 23 202314:18Logan O'Hoppe Has Torn Labrum, Out 4-6 Months

The youngster had 13 RBI through his first 16 games and looked like a good fantasy option going forward. Hopefully, he can return without issue within the initial timetable.

Fri Apr 21 202318:51Logan O'Hoppe Placed On Injured List
Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe (shoulder) has been placed on the 10-day injured list. He left early during Thursday's game after experiencing pain in his shoulder from swinging the bat. The organization hasn't given many details on the situation, it's unknown how long O'Hoppe will be sidelined. It's a shame because the 23-year-old was off to a hot start at the plate. He was slashing .283/.339/.547 with four homers and 13 RBI in his first 16 games. In a corresponding move, Chad Wallach will be recalled from Triple-A and start behind the dish for Friday's contest versus the Kansas City Royals. Fantasy managers will need to check back to find out a timetable on O'Hoppe.

Thu Apr 20 202321:02Logan O'Hoppe Dealing With A Shoulder Issue
Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe left Thursday's contest against the New York Yankees early after experiencing pain in his shoulder from swinging the bat. The rookie stated that the same thing happened earlier in the club's last series with the Boston Red Sox, but he didn't miss any time. According to Sam Blum of The Athletic, O'Hoppe isn't sure if he'll have to go on the shelf. The backstop has been impressive through 15 games this season, slashing .283/.339/.547 with four home runs, five runs, and 13 RBI. If O'Hoppe does miss some action, fantasy managers can expect Matt Thaiss to be the everyday catcher, though, considering his career .651 OPS, he doesn't offer much value.

Tue Apr 4 202321:27Logan O'Hoppe Sitting On Tuesday
Los Angeles Angels backstop Logan O'Hoppe isn't starting Tuesday's matchup against the Seattle Mariners, according to MLB.com. It'll be his first day off of the season, and he's earned it, as he owns a .286 batting average with a home run and six RBI across four games. O'Hoppe is the Angels top prospect and has the potential to provide solid production all around. It will be Matt Thaiss doing the catching duties, his second game of the season. He hasn't done much offensively over 94 career games in the majors, posting a .669 OPS, and fantasy managers can keep him on the waiver wire in most formats.

Mon Mar 27 202318:35Logan O'Hoppe Makes Opening Day Roster
Los Angeles Angels catching prospect Logan O'Hoppe and infielder Jake Lamb have both made the team's Opening Day roster. O'Hoppe gets the nod with Max Stassi (hip) opening the year on the injured list. He'll share playing time with Matt Thaiss early on. The 23-year-old hit .281 (9-for-32) with two doubles, a homer, six RBI and four runs scored in 12 Cactus League games and will be more attractive than Thaiss in AL-only leagues as the club's No. 1 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. Jared Walsh's headache issues have opened up a spot for Lamb on the Opening Day roster. The 32-year-old left-handed slugger will hope to see some playing time at first base when Brandon Drury needs a day off.

Thu Mar 23 202319:17Logan O'Hoppe Could Make Angels Opening Day Roster
The Los Angeles Angels' top minor-league prospect, catcher Logan O'Hoppe, has built a solid case to make the team's Opening Day MLB roster. Through 41 spring at-bats, he owns a .779 OPS, building off a 26-home run and .960-OPS campaign with Double-A Reading and Double-A Rocket City last season. Matt Thaiss has performed similarly strong this preseason and is O'Hoppe's stiffest competition for the backup catcher role to Max Stassi. Thaiss is out of minor-league options and remains a slight favorite, but O'Hoppe possesses far superior offensive upside.

Wed Sep 28 202211:08Logan O'Hoppe Called Up To Make MLB Debut Wednesday
The Los Angeles Angels are calling up catching prospect Logan O'Hoppe on Wednesday, and he will make his major-league debut against the Oakland Athletics. In a corresponding move, outfielder Magneuris Sierra is being designated for assignment. O'Hoppe is the team's top prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and he was acquired from the Philadelphia Phillies last month in the trade that sent Brandon Marsh to Philly. The 22-year-old backstop hit a combined .283/.416/.544 with a .961 OPS, 26 home runs, 78 RBI, 72 runs scored and seven stolen bases in 104 combined games with Double-A Reading and Double-A Rocket City in the minors this year. With the Angels already eliminated from the postseason, don't be surprised if O'Hoppe sees most of the playing time for the Angels down the stretch over both Matt Thaiss and Max Stassi.
