Tue Apr 920:12Aaron Ashby Optioned To Triple-A
The Milwaukee Brewers optioned left-hander Aaron Ashby to Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday. The club also selected the contract of right-hander Kevin Herget from Nashville and transferred right-handed reliever Devin Williams (back) to the 60-day injured list. Ashby gets sent back to the farm after surrendering eight runs (four earned) in just 3 2/3 innings against the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday. The 25-year-old southpaw will go to Nashville to work on his craft with veteran lefty Wade Miley (shoulder) set to make his 2024 MLB debut on Wednesday night against the Reds. Ashby should be back with Milwaukee at some point down the road this year, but fantasy baseball managers should temper expectations for him after he had season-ending left-shoulder surgery in April of 2023.

Fri Mar 2220:22Aaron Ashby Optioned To Triple-A
The Milwaukee Brewers optioned left-hander Aaron Ashby and outfielder Joey Wiemer to Triple-A Nashville on Friday and also reassigned infielder Christian Arroyo to minor-league camp. Although he's healthy after recovering from shoulder surgery, Ashby was considered a long shot to crack the team's Opening Day rotation, especially since he struggled to recover his pre-surgery velocity in spring training. The 25-year-old southpaw allowed four runs (three earned) while walking four and striking out three in three Cactus League innings and will open the year on the farm to try and get his velocity back up before helping the Brewers in the big leagues at some point in 2024. You can avoid Ashby for now in standard 12-team fantasy leagues, but he's worth stashing in NL-only leagues for his strikeout upside.

Wed Mar 2013:34Aaron Ashby Unlikely To Be Ready
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Curt Hogg doesn't foresee Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Aaron Ashby (shoulder) opening the 2024 season in the majors. All reports this spring are that his shoulder is healthy, but the velocity isn't all the way back. Manager Pat Murphy mentioned Ashby as still in the running for one of the last starting rotation spots, but it doesn't sound like he's ahead of someone like Joe Ross. It appears that the Brewers want to keep Ashby as a starter, but a bullpen role down the line can't be ruled out. The 25-year-old southpaw had left-shoulder surgery in April of last year and didn't look good on a minor-league rehab assignment last fall. He'll most likely spend a lot of this year working his way back, but Ashby's long-term appeal is still intriguing because of his nasty slider-changeup combination.

Tue Oct 10 202313:04Aaron Ashby's Velocity Trending In The Right Direction
Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Aaron Ashby's (shoulder) velocity is trending in the right direction after it didn't come along as the team had hoped after his shoulder injury, according to general manager Matt Arnold. Reports on Ashby recently have been very positive, giving hope that he will be ready to go for the start of spring training next year, barring another setback this offseason. The 25-year-old southpaw had left-shoulder surgery in April and wasn't making much progress in his rehab until recently. Ashby didn't pitch at all in the big leagues in 2023 and threw just seven innings during his rehab. If he's fully healthy next year, he should be a candidate to be in Milwaukee's starting rotation in 2024.

Tue Sep 5 202313:11Aaron Ashby Could Be An Option For Brewers Bullpen
Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Aaron Ashby (shoulder) has been out since hurting his left shoulder in the lead-up to spring training. He progressed all summer before hitting a bit of a roadblock in terms of his velocity. But Ashby had a good week of throwing during the team's Aug. 22-27 homestand and was slated to throw an inning on a minor-league rehab assignment with High-A Wisconsin on Sept. 2. Manager Craig Counsell said the plan is for Ashby to pitch for Wisconsin this week and then move to Double-A Biloxi next week. Milwaukee is planning to throw the southpaw in short stings, so he likely won't need many rehab outings before he's an option for the Brewers bullpen later this month and into the postseason.

Sat Sep 2 202321:45Aaron Ashby Begins Rehab Assignment Saturday
Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Aaron Ashby (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Wisconsin on Saturday. The 25-year-old has been on the injured list all season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his throwing shoulder in April. He owned a 4.44 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and a 126:46 K: BB across 107 1/3 innings in 2023. The southpaw completed a 35-pitch bullpen session last Saturday and could return off the injured list in mid-September. Ashby is expected to work as a multi-inning reliever once he returns from the injured list and isn't on the fantasy radar for 2023.

Tue Aug 22 202322:00Aaron Ashby Not Ready For Rehab Assignment Yet
Milwaukee Brewers southpaw Aaron Ashby (shoulder) is feeling healthy and is throwing bullpens, but his velocity is still down, and he won't begin a rehab assignment until the first half of September. The promising 25-year-old hasn't pitched at all in 2023 after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder back in April. Over 107 1/3 frames last year, Ashby pitched to a 4.44 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and 26.5% strikeout rate, making 27 appearances and 19 starts. It isn't a guarantee that he'll pitch this season, but if he does, it'll likely be out of the bullpen for the Brewers.

Wed Apr 5 202323:24Aaron Ashby To Have Surgery Friday
Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Aaron Ashby (shoulder) will have arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder on Friday that will keep him out until late in the season, at best, according to manager Craig Counsell. Ashby suffered a slight labral tear in his shoulder in February and landed on the 15-day injured to open the 2023 campaign, but now he may end up missing the whole season. It's a tough break for the 24-year-old southpaw and for any fantasy managers that had been stashing him in deeper leagues for his strikeout upside. He'll likely be moved to the 60-day IL soon, and fantasy managers definitely shouldn't feel the need to continue holding onto him in single-year leagues.

Thu Mar 30 202308:55Aaron Ashby Placed On 15-Day Injured List
The Milwaukee Brewers have placed left-hander Aaron Ashby (shoulder) on the 15-day IL after a left shoulder injury in Spring Training. The hope is that he returns by mid-May. Ashby had a mixed season in 2022, pitching to a 4.44 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and 2-10 record, but posted a 26.5% strikeout rate over 27 games. The 24-year-old has plenty of talent, exhibited by his career 3.95 FIP and 27.1% strikeout rate across 139 innings, but the Brewers have a solid rotation heading into 2023. Ashby will need someone to falter or land on the IL if he wants a spot as a starter once he returns. He's worth a stash in dynasty formats, but fantasy managers can drop him without much concern in redraft leagues.

Wed Mar 15 202320:30Aaron Ashby Hoping To Return In Mid-May
Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Aaron Ashby (shoulder) is taking it slow after suffering a left shoulder injury that required a platelet-rich plasma injection, and he is hoping to make his season debut in mid-May. "It's a shoulder impingement, labral tear. That sounds really bad but everyone has these; it's just kind of how it affects you," Ashby said. The 24-year-old southpaw was able to play catch on flat ground on Wednesday in camp at a distance of around 75 feet. He went 2-10 last year with a 4.44 ERA, but he struck out 126 hitters in 107 1/3 innings and has plenty of long-term strikeout upside for fantasy managers. Ashby is stash-worthy in NL-only leagues, but you can probably leave him to the waiver wire in mixed leagues to begin the 2023 season.

Tue Feb 21 202319:30Aaron Ashby Hopes To Return By Mid-May
Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Aaron Ashby (shoulder) hopes to be pitching for the team by the middle of May if everything goes well in his recovery from a left shoulder impingement and a slight labral tear. The 24-year-old southpaw needed a platelet-rich plasma injection in his shoulder in late January, which will cause him to miss the first at least a month of the 2023 season. Ashby went 2-10 with a 4.44 ERA (4.06 FIP), 1.42 WHIP, one save and 26.5 percent strikeout rate in 107 1/3 innings over 27 appearances (19 starts) last year in his second MLB campaign. Despite his injury, he still has plenty of long-term appeal in fantasy, although those in shallow mixed leagues can safely leave him to the waiver to begin this season.

Thu Feb 16 202316:17Aaron Ashby Expected To Miss A Couple Months
The Milwaukee Brewers expect left-hander Aaron Ashby (shoulder) to miss "a couple months" with shoulder inflammation, according to manager Craig Counsell. Ashby was going to be behind the other pitchers in Brewers camp due to a left shoulder issue, and now he's going to miss the first couple months of the 2023 season. It obviously puts a huge dent in the 24-year-old southpaw's fantasy value for the upcoming campaign. Ashby went 2-10 with a 4.44 ERA (4.06 FIP), 1.42 WHIP, one save and 26.5 percent strikeout rate in 27 appearances (19 starts) covering 107 1/3 innings in his second MLB season with the Brew Crew. He's been a disappointment so far, but there remains plenty of strikeout upside once he's back to full health.

Thu Feb 9 202318:33Aaron Ashby Unlikely To Be Ready For Opening Day
The Milwaukee Brewers aren't expecting left-handed starter Aaron Ashby (shoulder) to be ready for Opening Day this year while dealing with more shoulder issues. "It's a remnant from last year that manifested itself as he ramped up throwing again," manager Craig Counsell said. "We had to take a pretty big step back as far as rest." This was pretty much a foregone conclusion when the injury news broke on Wednesday, so fantasy managers will need to plan for Ashby to miss some time early on this year. The 24-year-old southpaw is still young with plenty of strikeout upside, but command issues and injury concerns make him a pretty shaky fantasy asset right now.

Wed Feb 8 202318:02Aaron Ashby To Be Delayed Due To Shoulder Fatigue
Milwaukee Brewers general manager Matt Arnold said that left-hander Aaron Ashby (shoulder) will be behind in spring training with what the team is calling shoulder fatigue. Ashby spent three weeks on the injured last year with shoulder inflammation, so the Brewers will play it safe with him this spring. It's not exactly what you want to hear with pitchers and catchers reporting to camp very soon. The 24-year-old southpaw had a 4.44 ERA (4.06 FIP), a 1.42 WHIP, one save and 126 strikeouts in 107 1/3 innings for Milwaukee last year over 27 appearances (19 starts). Control issues and problems keeping the ball in the park have been issues for him in the past, though, but the strikeout ability makes him interesting. We'll see what happens with his shoulder situation, but there seems to be a high probability that he won't be ready for Opening Day.

Sat Oct 1 202213:22Aaron Ashby Starting Vs. The Marlins On Saturday
Milwaukee Brewers left-handed pitcher Aaron Ashby is starting on Saturday against the Miami Marlins. Ashby's last start came on September 20 against the Mets and he's only had one appearance, as a reliever, since then. The 24-year-old owns a 2-10 record, 4.50 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and 118:47 K/BB ratio across 100 innings (25 appearances, 18 starts). This is an important game for the Brewers, who sit 0.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies for the third and final Wild Card spot in the NL.

Mon Sep 19 202219:41Aaron Ashby To Return Tuesday
Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Aaron Ashby (shoulder) will come off the 15-day injured list to start a bullpen game on Tuesday against the New York Mets, according to skipper Craig Counsell. Ashby has been out since late August with left shoulder inflammation, but he'll return to the team for the final few weeks of the regular season as the Brew Crew try to earn the last wild-card spot in the National League. The 24-year-old southpaw is expected to pitch mostly in a relief role for Milwaukee the rest of the way, which makes him unattractive in fantasy. In 23 appearances (17 starts) for the Brewers in 2022, Ashby has gone 2-10 with a 4.58 ERA (4.05 FIP), a 1.43 WHIP, 116 strikeouts and 43 walks over 96 1/3 frames.

Sat Sep 10 202223:02Aaron Ashby Will Return As Reliever
Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Aaron Ashby (shoulder) will throw off a mound Sunday or Monday but is not being stretched out to start. He was placed on the injured list on August 22 with left shoulder inflammation. The Brewers are looking to add him to the roster soon, and the shift to relief allows for a quicker return to the staff. He owns a 4.58 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and a 116:43 K: BB across 96 1/3 innings in 2022. With the decision to shift Ashby to the bullpen, he mainly becomes a stash in dynasty leagues and loses most of his fantasy appeal in 2022.

Mon Aug 22 202218:27Aaron Ashby Lands On Injured List
The Milwaukee Brewers placed left-hander Aaron Ashby (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list on Monday with left shoulder inflammation and recalled left-hander Jason Alexander from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move. Ashby's injured list stint is retroactive to Aug. 20. The 24-year-old southpaw's shoulder was probably bothering him in his last start on Friday against the Chicago Cubs, when he surrendered six runs on eight hits in just five innings of work. He is 2-10 on the year with a 4.58 ERA (4.07 FIP), 1.43 WHIP, 116 strikeouts and 43 walks in 96 1/3 innings over 23 outings (17 starts) in his second big-league season. Ashby is relevant in mixed fantasy leagues because of his strikeout upside, but walks continue to be an issue for the young lefty. Alexander could replace Ashby in Milwaukee's starting rotation.

Fri Aug 19 202218:52Aaron Ashby Struggles Friday
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Aaron Ashby was torched on Friday, allowing six runs on eight hits over his five innings of work in an 8-7 loss against the Chicago Cubs. Ashby struck out eight and didn't walk a batter, which is a good sign for the young lefty considering his struggles with control, but the results still weren't there for him in this one. Ashby certainly has the stuff to be a major asset to both the Brewers and fantasy managers, but hasn't quite been able to put it together for long stretches of time this season. He now owns a 2-10 record to go along with a 4.58 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and 116 strikeouts over 96 IP. He simply can't be trusted right now in any format, but remains a strong dynasty asset. He is a clear sit next week, as he takes on the Dodgers.

Sun Aug 14 202221:49Aaron Ashby Solid For Six
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Aaron Ashby was solid for six innings Sunday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Each of the runs came on solo homers to Albert Pujols and Tyler O'Neill. Ashby was left with a no-decision in the 6-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. If not for an unlucky 2-10 record, Ashby's 4.24 ERA and 1.42 WHIP with 108 strikeouts in 91 1/3 innings would look a lot better to fantasy managers. He should be a popular breakout pick headed into 2023 drafts.
