The St. Louis Cardinals activated catcher Brayan Pena from the 60-day disabled list on Sunday after he missed much of the season due to a left knee injury.Pena, 34, has appeared in just four games (1-for-8) with St. Louis. The switch-hitter batted a combined .286 (8-for-28) with a home run and eight RBIs in nine combined games with Class A Palm Beach and the Gulf Coast League Cardinals during a recent injury rehabilitation assignment.Pena has a .259 career batting average with 23 homers over 12 major league seasons. He has also played for the Atlanta Braves (2005-08), Kansas City Royals (2009-12), Detroit Tigers (2013) and Cincinnati Reds (2014-15).The Cardinals also recalled rookie catcher Carson Kelly from Triple-A Memphis, designated Memphis infielder Dean Anna for assignment to make room for Kelly on the team's 40- man major league roster and transferred right-handed pitcher Seth Maness (right elbow) from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.The 22-year-old Kelly, the Cardinals' second-round draft selection in 2012 out of Westview (Oregon) High School, will be making his major league debut.Kelly, who was named a 2016 Texas League All-Star, batted a combined .289 with six home runs, 32 RBIs and a .343 on-base percentage in 96 games between Double-A Springfield and Memphis this season. The 6-foot-2, 218-pound former infielder batted .292 in 32 games for Memphis and .287 in 64 games with Springfield. Kelly was the recipient of the Rawlings Gold Glove Award in 2015 as the best defensive catcher in the minor leagues.
