Mon Jul 10 202312:17Manny Pina Injures Wrist Sunday
Oakland Athletics catcher Manny Pina (wrist) was removed from Sunday's game early on Sunday against the Boston Red Sox due to ongoing issues he's had with his left wrist. Pina started the year on the injured list with the same issue and had a foul tip hit off the wrist on his receiving hand earlier in Sunday's game. "He's been battling the wrist for a while," said manager Mark Kotsay following the game. "It's been a process for Manny and it's unfortunate that it's a recurring issue. We'll get him evaluated and see how we go forward with him." Pina just made his season debut early last week, but he could be headed right back to the injured list, depending on how he recovers during the All-Star break this week.

Wed Jul 5 202300:16Manny Pina Activated Tuesday, Goes Hitless In Season Debut
Oakland Athletics catcher Manny Pina went 0-for-2 with a strikeout in Tuesday's 1-0 win over the Tigers. Pina was activated from the 60-day injured list with a sprained left wrist and started at designated hitter before being pinch-hit for. The veteran will likely serve as a backup to Shea Langeliers. He has provided some power throughout his career with a .409 slugging percentage, but his .243 batting average and playing time questions may limit his fantasy value even in two-catcher leagues.

Mon Dec 12 202219:26A's Acquire Manny Pina, Esteury Ruiz On Monday
The Oakland Athletics acquired catcher Manny Pina and super-utilityman Esteury Ruiz on Monday as part of a three-way swap that included the Milwaukee Brewers and Atlanta Braves, according to a source. The A's also received pitchers Kyle Muller, Royber Salinas and Freddy Tarnok. Pina had wrist surgery in 2022 and only played in five games for the Braves. The 35-year-old veteran backstop should see considerable playing time alongside prospect Shea Langeliers next season for the rebuilding A's. Ruiz was sent to Milwaukee from San Diego in August in the Josh Hader trade. The 23-year-old struggled in his first 17 big-league games, going 6-for-35 (.171) with two RBI, three runs and a stolen base, but he posted a .900 OPS in Triple-A and stole 48 bases. Ruiz will be one to watch in deeper leagues with a chance to secure regular playing time in Oakland sooner than later.

Wed May 11 202216:55Manny Pina To Have Season-Ending Surgery On His Wrist
Atlanta Braves catcher Manny Pina (wrist) is set to undergo season-ending surgery on his left wrist. The 34-year-old first landed on the injured list on April 28 with what was deemed left wrist inflammation. Pina only appeared in five games this year and he went 2-for-14 at the plate with a pair of RBI and a run scored. Fellow catcher William Contreras was called up when Pina hit the injured list. Contreras will serve as the team's backup catcher behind Travis d'Arnaud going forward.

Mon Nov 15 202120:21Manny Pina Signs With Braves
The Atlanta Braves signed catcher Manny Pina to a two-year, $8 million deal on Monday that includes a $4 million team option for the 2024 season. Pina is a highly regarded backup catcher that will help take some of the stress off starting catcher Travis d'Arnaud as the Braves attempt to defend their World Series title in 2022. The presence of Pina as catching depth will give Atlanta extra time to develop catching prospects William Contreras and Shea Langeliers, who is the team's No. 2 prospect. The 34-year-old Pina hit a career-high 13 home runs while batting just .189 with a .732 OPS for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2021. Pina can provide occasional pop with his bat, but he's best known for his defense, throwing out 29.7% of 37 potential base-stealers last year.

Wed Sep 1 202119:32Manny Pina Placed On 10-Day Injured List
Milwaukee Brewers catcher Manny Pina (oblique) has been placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive August 29. Hopefully, Pina won't miss much time, but he has been horrendous at the plate anyway. He is slashing .181/.285/.389 with nine homers across 172 plate appearances. Pina is normally a reliable backup catcher, but won't provide fantasy value in any fantasy format. The Brewers don't need his bat and he probably won't play much over the next month or so.

Fri Jul 30 202114:03Manny Pina Has Huge Night At Plate In Victory
Milwaukee Brewers catcher Manny Pina went 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI during Thursday's win over the Pirates. Pina took Chris Stratton deep with a 396-foot shot in the sixth inning and swatted his second of the night in the eighth. He now has seven long balls this season while recording his first hits since his last homer on July 7 against the Mets. Although Pina's lack of production is partly due to limited playing time as the team's backup catcher, a .156/.273/.367 slash line isn't doing him any favors.

Tue May 25 202101:13Rays score 7 in 11th to beat Blue Jays 14-8 for 11th in row
DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) — Francisco Mejía hit a tiebreaking, two-run single during a seven-run burst in the 11th inning and the Tampa Bay Rays won their 11th straight game, outlasting the Toronto Blue Jays 14-8 on Monday. Tampa Bay moved within one win of the team record for consecutive victories. In 2004, playing as the Devil Rays, they won 12 in a row under manager Lou Piniella. After both teams scored twice in the 10th to make it 7-all, the Rays broke loose. Mejía’s hit came off Joel Payamps (0-2) with the bases loaded. Randy Arozarena doubled home a run, Austin Meadows had an RBI grounder, Manuel Margot knocked in two with a triple and Mike Brosseau added an RBI single against Tim Mayza. Joey Wendle hit a grand slam as Tampa Bay took a 5-0 lead in the first. The Rays wound up with a four-game sweep and took over sole possession of first place in the AL East. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit two of Toronto’s five home runs. The Blue Jays lost their sixth in a row. Tampa Bay scored twice in the 10th,... [More]
