Fri Apr 2616:16Tylor Megill To Begin Rehab Assignment Saturday
New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill (shoulder) is scheduled to start a minor-league rehab assignment on Saturday and throw two innings for High-A Brooklyn. Megill is getting close to returning to the big leagues while recovering from a right-shoulder strain that he suffered during his season debut on March 31 against the Milwaukee Brewers. The 28-year-old will probably need more than one rehab start before the Mets activate him from the injured list. When fully healthy, Megill should have a spot in New York's starting rotation, making him worth a deep-league pickup for pitching depth. He ended up making 25 starts for the Mets in 2023 and held a 4.70 ERA (4.96 FIP) and 1.57 WHIP with a career-high 105 strikeouts and 58 walks in 126 1/3 innings pitched.

Sat Apr 2001:01Tylor Megill Throws First Bullpen Friday
New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill (shoulder) threw his first bullpen assignment on Friday. Megill is ramping up his throwing activity as he recuperates from a strained right shoulder that's held him to one start so far in the 2024 regular season, which came in New York's opening series of the campaign. The big 28-year-old right-hander is probably not going to be activated from the injured list before the end of April at this rate, but Megill could be an option for the Mets sometime in early May. With righty Jose Butto beginning to emerge in the rotation, Megill could be facing a long-relief role upon his eventual return. Butto has yielded a lone run while fanning 15 hitters and walking four covering 12 innings (two starts) in Queens this year, but he's a dangerous fantasy bet in Saturday's scheduled start against a high-powered Los Angeles Dodgers offense at Chavez Ravine.

Mon Apr 114:30Mets Place Tylor Megill On 15-Day Injured List
The New York Mets have placed right-hander Tylor Megill on the 15-day injured list due to a right shoulder strain. The 28-year-old won a spot in the Mets' rotation to begin the season but was removed from his first start of the season on Sunday after four innings due to what was initially described as tenderness in his right shoulder. An MRI revealed the strain. Megill made 25 starts with the Mets last season but posted a 4.70 ERA alongside a weak 5.6% K-BB% in his 126 1/3 innings of work. A strong spring that saw him toss a 3.92 ERA in six outings with 23 strikeouts against six walks in 20 2/3 innings earned him a shot in the rotation to begin the season but he will hit the shelf for at least the next couple of weeks.UPDATE: Megill said he won't throw for the next five days, but the plan is for him to begin ramping up again after that. He sees it as the type of shoulder strain that will knock him out for a couple of starts rather than the type that could cost him significant time.

Wed Mar 2017:39Tylor Megill Wins Rotation Spot
New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill has won an Opening Day starting rotation spot due to Kodai Senga's (shoulder) injury, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. As a result, Jose Butto will open the year in the minor leagues, although he'll likely be the next starter up, potentially as early as the team's 13-day stretch of no off days in April. The 28-year-old Megill earned his rotation spot in New York by posting a 3.45 ERA and 1.02 WHIP while walking four and striking out 16 in 15 2/3 Grapefruit League innings this spring. The former eighth-round pick by the Mets in 2018 out of Arizona went 9-8 last year with a 4.70 ERA and 1.57 WHIP while walking 58 and striking out a career-high 105 hitters in 126 1/3 innings over 25 starts. Megill now becomes a rotation option for fantasy managers in NL-only leagues.

Mon Mar 413:24Tylor Megill Looking Solid This Spring
New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill has looked good so far in spring training, giving up only one run while striking out seven and walking none in five innings so far. Last spring, he walked 13 hitters in 17 innings. "I couldn't be prouder of Tylor and his offseason and how he took ownership of it," pitching coach Jeremy Hefner said. "It goes back to his mentality toward the end of the season going into the offseason a real clear view of who he is, what he's trying to do, what his pitches do, how to use his pitches. For me, that's empowering." Megill is also operating with a new splitter this year as he looks to solidify his spot at the back end of New York's starting rotation to start the new season. The 28-year-old was very mediocre in 25 starts for the Mets last year with only an 18.5% strikeout rate.

Thu Feb 2212:21Tylor Megill, Joey Lucchesi, Others Now Competing For Rotation Spot
New York Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said that the team prefers that their yet-to-debut pitching prospects like Mike Vasil, Christian Scott and Dominic Hamel pitch in the minors more before being asked to make their big-league debuts in the wake of right-hander Kodai Senga's (shoulder) injury. The rotation competition with Senga expected to open the year on the injured list will essentially be among Tylor Megill, Joey Lucchesi, Jose Butto and Max Kranick. Adrian Houser could be another option. Megill is probably the best bet and also offers the most upside for fantasy managers in deeper leagues. However, the 28-year-old righty struggled in 2023, posting a 4.70 ERA with 105 K's and 58 walks in 126 1/3 innings pitched over 25 starts.

Sat Sep 30 202321:41Tylor Megill Ends Year Strong In Ninth Win
New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill fired 7 1/3 innings of one-run ball on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts for his ninth win of the year in the matinee of Saturday's doubleheader versus the Philadelphia Phillies. Megill cruised through seven scoreless innings before permitting a few singles to the bottom of the order ahead of Philadelphia's lineup turning over in the eighth frame, causing his removal at 101 pitches. The 28-year-old was provided an early four-run lead, and it was just enough, as closer Adam Ottavino allowed things to get interesting in the ninth. Megill turned in a respectable final month of play with a 2.55 ERA in 35 1/3 innings (six starts). The right-hander has served as more of an innings eater for the Mets in recent years, but he could be part of a rebuilding 2024 rotation after they moved Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander at the trade deadline.

Sun Sep 10 202321:20Tylor Megill Throws Five Scoreless Innings
New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill looked good during Sunday's game against the Minnesota Twins. The right-hander allowed two hits and four walks over five shutout innings during Sunday's victory. Megill struggled with his command, but was able to get through the threats without any damage. Megill has now allowed three or fewer runs in five straight outings. He's posting a respectable 3.12 ERA during that span. Fantasy managers should consider Megill a possible streaming option for his next outing versus the Cincinnati Reds.

Sat Aug 5 202316:48Tylor Megill Recalled And Starting On Saturday
New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill has been recalled ahead of Saturday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. The Mets are in need of starters after trading Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander at the deadline. Megill will get another chance after posting a rough 5.17 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and a 58/39 K/BB ratio across 15 starts this season. He'll likely stick around for a bit with the Mets needing arms. However, fantasy managers shouldn't expect Megill to offer much value.

Thu Jun 22 202321:51Tylor Megill Optioned To Triple-A Syracuse
The New York Mets optioned right-hander Tylor Megill to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday. The 27-year-old struggled in June, posting a 6.75 ERA, 1.90 WHIP, and 15:12 K: BB across 17 1/3 innings over his previous four starts in June. He was scheduled to face the Brewers on Tuesday, but the Mets have yet to announce his replacement in the rotation. Megill owned a (6-4) record with a 5.17 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, and a 58:39 K: BB across 71 1/3 innings. Fantasy managers can move on Megill in most league formats while the right-hander looks to get back on track in Triple-A.

Sun Jun 11 202316:55Tylor Megill May Have Next Start Skipped
According to Mets skipper Buck Showalter, pitcher Tylor Megill may have his next start skipped. New York has additional time off on the horizon, which would allow Showalter a way to "wiggle" things if needed. However, considering the 27-year-old right-hander has gone 5-4 with a 5.14 ERA this season, the latest update won't impact many fantasy managers.

Fri May 12 202314:39Tylor Megill To Start On Friday
New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill will be tasked with taking the mound against the Washington Nationals on Friday. The Mets had each starter listed as TBA coming into this series. That makes sense considering the uncertainty over Max Scherzer's availability right now. Megill has been disappointing through seven starts this season. He gave up three runs over 4 2/3 innings versus the Colorado Rockies in his last start. The Mets aren't getting much from Megill right now, so he's a fairly risky streaming option for Friday's slate.

Mon May 1 202315:21Tylor Megill Starting Monday's Game
New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill is getting the start in Monday's Game 2 of the doubleheader against Charlie Morton and the Atlanta Braves. The 27-year-old hasn't lived up to the promise he showed in 2022, as he's paired a 3.96 ERA with a disappointing 17.3% strikeout rate, 10.9% walk rate, and 1.48 WHIP across five starts. With Justin Verlander (shoulder) and Max Scherzer (suspension) returning this week and Carlos Carrasco (elbow) not far behind, Megill might be out of the rotation soon, but fantasy managers can drop him before that.

Sun Apr 2 202301:16Tylor Megill Picks Up A Win On Saturday
New York Mets pitcher Tylor Megill picked up the win on Saturday versus the Marlins. The 27-year-old went five innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out seven batters. He recently got called up from Triple-A Syracuse after Justin Verlander (shoulder) went on the 15-day injured list. It's unknown how long Megill will hang around in the big leagues. However, he should see another start or two before presumably returning to the minors once Verlander is 100%. Although Megill's track record hasn't been the most consistent, his latest performance may have earned him a spot in many fantasy lineups.

Thu Mar 30 202316:51Tylor Megill To Start On Saturday Against Marlins
With New York Mets starting pitcher Justin Verlander (shoulder) opening the year on the 15-day injured list, right-hander Tylor Megill will now start on Saturday against the Miami Marlins. The 27-year-old now becomes an attractive pickup in deeper leagues and a potential streamer this weekend. However, he'll need to pitch better than he did last year and this spring to keep his spot in the starting rotation for however long Verlander is out. Megill had a 5.13 ERA (3.77 FIP), 1.25 WHIP and 25.5 percent strikeout rate in 47 1/3 innings over 15 outings (nine starts) for the Mets in his second big-league season in 2022. He gave up 10 runs (seven earned) on 14 hits while walking 13 and striking out 12 over 17 innings in Grapefruit League action.

Sat Sep 10 202211:04Tylor Megill Throws One Inning In Rehab Outing
New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill (shoulder) threw a scoreless inning and didn't allow a hit while striking out one and walking none in his latest minor league rehab outing on Friday for Triple-A Syracuse. Megill hasn't allowed a single run in four relief innings on his rehab assignment, striking out eight in the process. When the Mets deem that he's ready to return from the injured list, he'll return in a relief role to close out the regular season. As a result, he can be left to the waiver wire to close out the 2022 campaign. Before his injury, the 27-year-old was 4-2 with a 5.01 ERA (3.60 FIP), a 1.21 WHIP, 47 strikeouts and 11 walks in 41 1/3 innings over nine starts in his second major league season.

Thu Sep 1 202223:20Tylor Megill Pitches In Relief During Rehab Outing
New York Mets pitcher Tylor Megill (shoulder) struck out the side after entering in relief during a rehab outing with Double-A Binghamton on Thursday. With Carlos Carrasco (oblique) expected to return to the rotation on Sunday, Megill is expected to pitch out of the bullpen when he rejoins the Mets. The 27-year-old had been sidelined since mid-June with a strained right shoulder. Megill owns a 5.01 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 47 strikeouts across 41 1/3 innings in 2022. The right-hander could be used in high-leverage situations and provide the Mets another arm out of the bullpen this season.

New York Mets starting pitcher Tylor Megill (shoulder) will throw a 15-pitch bullpen session on Sunday, according to Tim Healey of Newsday. The right-hander looked fantastic in April but faltered in the months of May and June, racking up a 5.01 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and .245 OBA through nine starts in 2022 as a whole. He will pitch out of the bullpen once he's ready to return to the big-league club.

Sat Aug 6 202212:24Tylor Megill To Throw Bullpen Next Saturday
New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill (shoulder) is scheduled to throw his first bullpen session next Saturday. Megill will return to the Mets as a reliever in late August or early September. After the season, the Mets have told him they'll stretch him back out as a starter for next year. Before his injury, the 27-year-old was 4-2 with a 5.01 ERA (3.60 FIP), a 1.21 WHIP and a 47:11 K:BB in 41 1/3 innings over his nine starts in just his second major league season. Megill won't have much fantasy value the rest of the way while coming out of New York's bullpen.
