Sun Mar 2400:11Jose Iglesias, Luke Voit Won't Make Mets Opening Day Roster
The New York Mets have informed Jose Iglesias, Tomas Nido, and Luke Voit that they did not make the team's Opening Day roster. Voit signed a minor-league contract with the Mets in February but failed to latch onto the team's main roster after hitting .097 with a home run and four RBI over 31 spring at-bats. Iglesias had a solid spring, but it wasn't enough to make the team's Opening Day roster. This spring, he hit .278 with a home run and three RBI over 36 at-bats. Both Voit and Iglesias will look to latch onto another team. Neither Iglesias nor Voit will provide much fantasy value even if they sign with another club ahead of 2024 fantasy drafts.

Tue Dec 5 202316:12Jose Iglesias Signs Minors Deal With Mets
Free-agent infielder Jose Iglesias signed a minor-league deal with the New York Mets on Tuesday. The deal includes an invitation to major-league spring training. Iglesias will provide infield depth, mainly at shortstop, for the Mets heading into next spring. The 33-year-old Cuban didn't surface in the big leagues at all in 2023 but did impress in 28 games for Triple-A El Paso in the San Diego Padres system with a .317/.356/.537 slash line, .892 OPS, four home runs and 27 RBI in 135 plate appearances. Iglesias was an All-Star for the Detroit Tigers in 2015, when he hit .300 with only two homers, 23 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 120 games. He's always been a glove-first player and has only 47 home runs in 11 major-league seasons.

Fri May 26 202314:52Jose Iglesias Elects Free Agency
San Diego Padres shortstop Jose Iglesias has exercised his opt-out clause in his contract and will look to play elsewhere. The 33-year-old signed a minor-league deal with the Padres about a month ago. It appears he's ready to look for another organization after not being called up to the majors. He decided to opt-out of his deal with the Miami Marlins as well back in April. Iglesias should be able to find another team given his track record. He slashed .292/.328/,380 with three home runs and 47 RBI in 118 games with the Colorado Rockies last season.

Thu Apr 20 202321:51Jose Iglesias Opts Out Thursday
Miami Marlins shortstop Jose Iglesias has opted out of the minor league deal that he signed with the club during Spring Training on Thursday, according to MLB Trade Rumors. He didn't make the team after the preseason and will likely look for a chance to play on a big league roster. Iglesias has never been flashy at the dish and is known for his glove, but he did hit .271 with nine homers and five stolen bases in 2022, albeit with half his games coming at Coors Field. Even if he does land with another team, fantasy managers can lay off the 33-year-old, who'll likely be in a part-time role.

Thu Mar 9 202319:42Jose Iglesias Signs Minor-League Deal
The Miami Marlins have signed shortstop Jose Iglesias to a minor-league deal on Thursday. They also reportedly signed Yulieski Gurriel as well, so they've added multiple infielders to their roster. The expectation is that Iglesias will provide utility depth to their infield. The 33-year-old is likely to compete with Garrett Hampson for a spot on the Opening Day roster. There isn't much fantasy value with Iglesias, but he has been a consistent hitter throughout his career. Last season, Iglesias hit .292/.328/.380 with three homers and two steals with the Colorado Rockies.

According to Rockies beat writer Patrick Saunders, Iglesias's left foot remains sore, but the hope is that he will be back in the lineup on Wednesday.

Fri Jul 15 202223:25Jose Iglesias Pulled From Friday's Game
Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Iglesias (neck) was forced to exit early during Friday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was 0-for-2 prior to exiting the contest due to neck stiffness. The 32-year-old is considered day-to-day, so hopefully he'll avoid a trip to the injured list. He's hitting a terrific .302/.342/.407 with three home runs and 33 RBI in 75 games. Fantasy managers should check back on Saturday for another update on Iglesias.

Wed May 18 202214:37Jose Iglesias On The Bench For Wednesday's Game
Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Iglesias will be on the bench for Wednesday's game against the San Francisco Giants and right-handed starter Logan Webb. Iglesias is batting .302 with a .357 on-base percentage in 115 plate appearances for the Rockies this season. Instead, Garrett Hampson will start at shortstop and bat eighth. So far this season, Hampson is hitting .192 with a .323 on-base percentage, a home run, and a stolen base in 32 plate appearances. Fantasy managers are probably better off looking elsewhere for streaming help at shortstop.

Sat Mar 12 202221:26Jose Iglesias Inks One-Year Deal With Rockies
The Colorado Rockies and shortstop Jose Iglesias agreed to a one-year, $5 million contract, according to Thomas Harding of MLB.com. The news all but assures Colorado will not retain shortstop Trevor Story, who is currently a free agent. The 32-year-old Iglesias will join his sixth team after spending the 2021 season with the Angels. In L.A., the defense-first infielder shushed .271/.309/.391 with nine homers and five stolen bases. A move to Coors Field should boost his offensive numbers, but Iglesias still isn't a priority in standard-size fantasy leagues He's worth a flier as a late-round middle-infield option in deeper roto leagues where he can help in batting average.

Thu Sep 23 202113:01Jose Iglesias Scores Twice, Drives In Two Wednesday
Boston Red Sox infielder Jose Iglesias has taken command of the second base position, and he went 1-for-3 with a triple, a walk, two RBI, and two runs scored Wednesday against the New York Mets in a 12-5 win. Iglesias is playing every day at the keystone, although his value takes a hit batting ninth in the lineup, and he is not eligible for the postseason, so Boston may eventually explore other options in preparation for an October run. Still, he's a deep-league option with his .378/.452/.622 line over the last 15 games.

Tue Sep 14 202112:07Jose Iglesias Homers, Drives In Two
Boston Red Sox infielder Jose Iglesias got the start at second base batting ninth Monday against the Seattle Mariners, and he went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. It's Iglesias's ninth home run of the season. While Iglesias has been successful with six hits in 15 at-bats in this stint with Boston, his playing time, and maybe even his roster spot, will come into question as Christian Arroyo and others return from the COVID list. He shouldn't be on fantasy rosters.

Fri Sep 3 202120:40Jose Iglesias Released By Angels
Los Angeles Angels shortstop Jose Iglesias has been released by the organization on Friday. The veteran infielder was set to be a free agent at the end of the season. He was hitting .259/.295/.375 with eight homers, 41 RBI and five stolen bases in 114 games with the Angels this season. He could certainly be an asset to a contending team down the stretch. The release of Iglesias gives the Angels a chance to give Jack Mayfield legitimate playing time. Neither of these two have much upside with the bat and can probably be ignored in all fantasy formats.

Mon Aug 30 202121:05Jose Iglesias Sitting Again
Los Angeles Angels shortstop Jose Iglesias is absent from Monday's starting lineup against the New York Yankees. This is the second consecutive game that Iglesias has rode the bench, with Jack Mayfield taking his spot both times. Angels manager Joe Maddon stated that he wants to take a closer look at Mayfield for the future. He is hitting .211 but does have some power with eight home runs and a .408 slugging in 56 games. This doesn't affect many fantasy leagues, as Mayfield is only a deep-league option, and Iglesias is slashing just .259/.295/.375 with five stolen bases. But for those rostering Iglesias, it would be a good move to find another option to take his roster spot.

Thu Aug 26 202112:21Jose Iglesias Getting A Breather On Thursday
Los Angeles Angels shortstop Jose Iglesias is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. Jack Mayfield is manning shortstop for the game and batting eighth in the lineup. Iglesias had been swinging a hot bat this series, so it's a bit surprising to see him take a seat for the series finale. Over the first two games of the series, he went 3-for-8 with two doubles, a walk, two RBI and five runs scored. Expect to see him back in the starting lineup on Friday when the team faces Joe Musgrove and the San Diego Padres.

Sun Aug 15 202115:13Jose Iglesias On The Bench Sunday
Los Angeles Angels shortstop Jose Iglesias is absent from the starting lineup for Sunday's matchup against the Houston Astros. It is just a day off as there are no injury concerns. Iglesias has had a subpar season, hitting .269 with a .388 slugging, a year after posting a .373 batting average with a .956 OPS. He can be an option in very deep leagues to provide a decent average with a .292 mark the past three seasons, but other than that, he has little value.

Fri Aug 6 202110:44Jose Iglesias Drives In Two Runs Thursday
Los Angeles Angels shortstop Jose Iglesias recorded a single in four at-bats but did pick up two RBI in Thursday's 5-0 defeat over the Texas Rangers. He is now hitting .269 with a .378 slugging, seven home runs, 43 runs, 36 RBI, and four stolen bases across 95 games. Iglesias has been in a bit of a slump recently, going 5 for his last 37 and bringing his average down from .285. Fantasy managers rostering Iglesias for his batting average should stay patient and hope he can turn things around. The shortstop should only be a waiver wire option in deep leagues, with the only category Iglesias might contribute to is average.

Jean Segura scored Ronald Torreyes with an infield single in the 10th inning for his second straight game-ending hit and the Philadelphia Phillies got a third consecutive walkoff win with an 8-7 victory over the New York Yankees on Saturday. After Yankees star DJ LeMahieu hit a tying, three-run homer in the ninth, Archie Bradley (2-1) pitched a perfect 10th to strand the designated runner. Travis Jankowski led off the bottom of the inning against Aroldis Chapman (4-2) by reaching on the pitcher’s error. Jankowski bunted, and Chapman fielded the ball, checked Torreyes at second, then huried a throw high to first. Torreyes advanced to third. Odubel Herrera popped out, then Segura hit a hard grounder to third baseman Gio Urshela, who dived toward the line to catch it but couldn’t relay the ball home ahead of Torreyes.
