Tue Feb 14 201216:12Jose Guillen hoping to make comeback
Jose Guillen has been training in his native Dominican Republic in order to make a comeback in MLB, reports Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportesLosAngeles.com.
And he has apparently drawn interest from "at least a couple teams," despite not being close to game shape. Guillen didn't play at all last season, turns 36 years old in May and was being investigated by the feds in 2010 for an HGH shipment that was allegedly sent to his wife in California, so we would be surprised if any team thinks he's worth the trouble at this point.

Tue Feb 22 201117:44Jose Guillen close to announcing retirement
According to Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes, Jose Guillen will retire if he doesn't get an offer in the next week.
Guillen is still looking for an opportunity as an outfielder/designated hitter, but let's just say we're not surprised he hasn't found a home. The 34-year-old is awful in the field and batted just .217 over the final 28 games of the regular season in 2010. He was left off the postseason roster by the Giants and also investigated by federal authorities regarding a shipment of HGH that was allegedly sent to his wife in California. It's highly unlikely he will get the chance to play his 15th season in the majors.

Sun Nov 14 201012:32Report: DEA seized Guillen's HGH shipment
According to the New York Daily News, a shipment of nearly 50 pre-loaded syringes of HGH arranged by Jose Guillen to be sent to his San Francisco home in September was intercepted by DEA agents.
This isn't Guillen's first alleged brush with performance-enhancing drugs. In 2008 he was set to be suspended for 15 games after reportedly purchasing HGH, testosterone and other steroids but received amnesty for "past acts" as part of the Mitchell Report. Guillen was left off San Francisco's postseason roster when the original story broke, but Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Guillen was inactive because of a neck injury. Baseball is investigating and a suspension could be in the offing for Guillen.

Sat Oct 30 201017:11Bochy: Guillen decision was injury related
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Saturday that Jose Guillen was left off the postseason roster before it was known that he was connected to an investigation involving hGH shipments.
The Giants originally announced that Guillen was left off the roster for the NLDS because of a neck injury. "That decision was made before all this came out," Bochy said. "I told Jose that I felt he wasn't 100 percent. Cody Ross was going to be out there." Bochy said he hasn't spoken to Guillen since right before the team traveled to Atlanta for Game 3 of the NLDS on Oct. 10.
Fri Oct 29 201011:26MLB never directed Giants to cut Jose Guillen
Craig Calcaterra of NBCSports.com reports that MLB never directed the Giants to leave Jose Guillen off the club's postseason roster.
Guillen is being investigated currently for ordering shipments of HGH to a Bay Area address that is registered to his wife. That investigation started before the playoffs and the New York Times reported Thursday that Guillen was not invited to play for the Giants in October because of his ties to the criminal activity. Apparently that's not true. Calcaterra's source says that Guillen was left off the Giants' postseason roster because of his poor play down the stretch and lack of versatility in the outfield. It makes far more sense.

Thu Oct 28 201021:35Jose Guillen being investigated for HGH ties
Jose Guillen is being investigated by the DEA and Major League Baseball for ordering shipments of HGH during the 2010 season.
Guillen had boxes of the performance-enhancer sent to a Bay Area address that can be linked to his wife. He was also involved in PED investigations during the 2007 season, when it was discovered that he ordered over $19,000 of HGH from 2002-2005. All of this could lead to a 50-game suspension for the veteran outfielder and impending free agent.

Sat Oct 16 201018:05Giants leave Guillen off NLCS roster
Giants manager Bruce Bochy indicated that Jose Guillen would be available should his team need an injury replacement during the NLCS.
Even though Guillen has apparently overcome the sore neck that cost him a place on the NLDS roster, the Giants stuck with the 25-man roster that got them past the Braves. That means no Barry Zito, either.

Thu Oct 7 201013:36Guillen left off due to sore neck
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said that Jose Guillen was left off the Giants' NLDS roster due to a sore neck.
Guillen received an injection to alleviate pain in his neck last month, but he's obviously not 100 percent. In a series where every run will be crucial, it's probably best he was left off the roster, regardless of injury. Cody Ross or Nate Schierholtz will likely start in right field during the series, though Aaron Rowand could also start in center, moving Andres Torres to right.

Thu Oct 7 201013:17Guillen not on Giants' NLDS roster
Jose Guillen is not on the Giants' roster for the NLDS against the Braves.
Guillen is an awful outfielder and batted just .217 over the final 28 games of the season, so he won't be missed. Aaron Rowand, Travis Ishikawa and Edgar Renteria made it.

Sun Sep 19 201019:18Guillen drives in 6; Giants take NL West lead
Jose Guillen homered and drove in six runs as the Giants beat the Brewers to ascend to first place in the National League West.
Guillen hit a grand slam off starter Chris Narveson in the first inning, then added a two-run single in the fifth. With the Padres losing to the Cardinals earlier in the day the Giants now lead the NL West by half a game. The Rockies are only a game back pending the outcome of their contest against the Dodgers this afternoon and the NL West could have three teams separated by half a game by day's end. Buckle up for a fun two weeks out west.
Fri Sep 17 201001:05Giants' Guillen homers in victory
Jose Guillen went 3-for-3 and hit a two-run homer Thursday against the Dodgers.
Guillen, who didn't play Wednesday because of neck pain, hit his second homer in 27 games as a member of the Giants. After a quick start with his new team, he hit just .189/.205/.270 over the first 16 days of September.

Sat Aug 21 201013:22Guillen dealing with sore quad
Jose Guillen is nursing a left quad injury that has slowed him on the bases and in the outfield.
It's the same injury that caused Guillen to miss a few games in July. "It's getting there," he said. "I've got to get in game shape. I've got to play every day. There's nothing wrong with my leg. I know I can run a lot better than this. It's something where I'm a little afraid. I've got to get mentally tough and let it go." Guillen has batted .400 in six games with his new team, so obviously this isn't anything to worry about unless the injury worsens.

Sun Aug 15 201014:59Guillen starting in right field Sunday
Jose Guillen is in the Giants' starting lineup Sunday.
The outfielder pinch-hit Saturday but will now get his first start. Guillen is expected to be the regular right fielder down the stretch for the Giants, with Aubrey Huff moving back to first base. He's certainly worthy of an add in NL-only leagues despite diminished production.

Fri Aug 13 201012:50Guillen to play right, Huff to first base?
Mychael Urban of CSNBayArea.com writes that Jose Guillen will likely start in right field, moving Aubrey Huff back to first base.
Yuck. Aaron Rowand and Andres Torres better get ready to cover tons of ground when they start in center field, because Guillen and Pat Burrell are proven to be two of the worst defensive outfielders in the entire sport. Fantasy owners don't need to concern themselves with defense, however, so Guillen is worth picking up in all NL-only and even some deeper mixed formats.

Fri Aug 13 201010:29Deal sending Guillen to Giants is 'done'
A rival executive tells Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com that a deal sending Jose Guillen to the Giants is "done."
This confirms a report by ESPN's Enrique Rojas. It's not known how the teams will handle the $3-plus million remaining on Guillen's contract, but we'd expect to Royals to at least pick up some of it. The 34-year-old Guillen is batting .255/.314/.429 with 16 homers and 62 RBI in 396 at-bats this season. He doesn't figure to be an everyday player in San Francisco.

Fri Aug 13 201008:32Giants close to acquiring Jose Guillen
ESPN's Enrique Rojas reports that the Giants are close to acquiring Jose Guillen from the Royals.
Guillen was designated for assignment by the Royals last week. He still has a little over $3 million owed to him for the rest of the season, but it isn't known if the Royals are willing to pay any of his salary. Rojas writes that Guillen could be in uniform with the Giants by as soon as tonight's game against the first-place Padres, so it sounds like this one is pretty close. Stay tuned.

Tue Aug 10 201016:22Dodgers have 'strong interest' in Guillen
Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes.com reports that the Dodgers have "strong interest" in Jose Guillen, but only in a part-time role.
Guillen was designated for assignment by the Royals last week, so he may have some more appealing choices if he becomes a free agent. The Giants are another team rumored to have interest.
