Sat May 1818:26Jonny DeLuca Hits Go-Ahead Two-Run Homer On Saturday Afternoon
Tampa Bay Rays rookie outfielder Jonny DeLuca hit a go-ahead home run Saturday afternoon against the Toronto Blue Jays' Nate Pearson. He also stole a base after getting the start in right field today. DeLuca is hitting .306 through 14 games with two home runs, 12 RBI, and three stolen bases. He has been productive in a small sample size despite a crowded outfield that also includes Josh Lowe, Jose Siri, and Randy Arozarena. DeLuca may be a rosterable outfielder in deeper leagues at this time while he stays hot.

Sat May 1814:09Josh Lowe Out Of Saturday’s Lineup, Jonny DeLuca In
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe is not in Saturday's lineup as the Rays continue a three-game set against the Toronto Blue Jays. Lowe made his season debut on May 6 after suffering an oblique strain and a hamstring issue this offseason. Through his first ten games of the season, the 26-year-old has a .263/.333/.526 slash line with two long balls. As a result, Jonny DeLuca will get the starting nod in right field and bat in the five-hole. DeLuca has been swinging a hot bat over his past six games with a .364/.462/.455 slash line. However, the right-handed bat does face Kevin Gausman today and is best to fade in DFS. Even though Gausman has struggled with a 4.95 ERA this season, he has been dominant against right-handed batters with a 23:4 K:BB ratio, suggesting that DeLuca may have a difficult task awaiting him this afternoon.

Thu May 1616:53Jonny DeLuca Riding Pine Again
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Jonny DeLuca is out of the starting lineup again on Thursday against the Red Sox in Boston at Fenway Park. Jose Siri is starting in center field again and is batting ninth against Red Sox right-hander Cooper Criswell. DeLuca has now been on the bench in three of the last four games as the Rays mix Siri back into center field on a more regular basis. It hasn't helped that both Josh Lowe and Jonathan Aranda have returned to the Rays recently. The 25-year-old DeLuca recently started nine games in a row in Tampa's outfield and is hitting .281 (9-for-32) with a homer, 10 RBI and two stolen bases in just 12 games in 2024. DeLuca could get another shot if an injury opens up more playing time, but for now, he appears to be the odd man out.

Tue May 700:13Jonny DeLuca Hits First Homer Of Season Monday
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Jonny DeLuca went 2-for-4 with a single, a two-run home run, and four RBI in Monday's 8-2 win over the White Sox. The 25-year-old has looked good at the plate in limited at-bats, slashing .333/.375/.667 with 10 RBI and two stolen bases in just 16 plate appearances. The Rays' treatment of prospects is always tough to predict, but DeLuca could be a fantasy name to watch if he can continue to hit and earn regular playing time.

Fri May 315:00Jonny DeLuca Making Rays Debut Friday
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Jonny DeLuca (hand) will make his team debut on Friday when the team takes on the visiting New York Mets and left-hander Jose Quintana. The 25-year-old was part of the return in a trade that sent Tyler Glasnow and Manuel Margot to the Los Angeles Dodgers this past offseason. He suffered a broken hand on a hit-by-pitch in spring training but raked on his Triple-A rehab assignment, hitting .300 with two homers, six RBI, a stolen base, and a 1.090 OPS across 25 trips to the plate with the Durham Bulls. DeLuca debuted with a solid .262 average with two homers, a stolen base, and a .740 OPS across 24 games with the Dodgers last season.

Mon Mar 1100:53Jonny DeLuca Out Multiple Weeks With Broken Hand
An x-ray confirmed that Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Jonny DeLuca (hand) suffered a broken right hand after being hit by a pitch during Sunday's 7-6 Grapefruit League loss to the Boston Red Sox. DeLuca is slated to be re-evaluated in four-to-six weeks, but it's a difficult setback for a player who was pushing to be a part of Tampa Bay's Opening Day roster. Over 13 spring training at-bats, the 25-year-old hit .308 with a .746 OPS, one RBI, and one stolen base. Although Ryan Pepiot was the centerpiece of this past offseason's Tyler Glasnow trade for the Rays, DeLuca slashed a respectable .262./311/.429 with two home runs, six RBI, and one swipe across 42 ABs with the Los Angeles Dodgers last year. Jose Siri's playing time in center field has become solidified with DeLuca now on the shelf, while Tampa is likely to maintain a platoon approach at designated hitter between Jonathan Aranda and Harold Ramirez.

Thu Dec 14 202320:34Rays Pick Up Ryan Pepiot, Jonny DeLuca From Dodgers In Tyler Glasnow Deal
The Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Dodgers agreed on a trade on Thursday that will send right-hander Tyler Glasnow and outfielder Manuel Margot to the Dodgers in exchange for right-hander Ryan Pepiot and outfielder Jonny DeLuca, according to sources. Pepiot pitched in only eight games (three starts) for the Dodgers in 2023 while missing most of the year with an oblique injury, but he was great in 42 innings, posting a 2.14 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 38 strikeouts against only five walks. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect better numbers over a full season, but Pepiot should have plenty of mixed league value locked into a starting role with the Rays in 2024. DeLuca, meanwhile, will be competing for a fourth-outfield role in Tampa in the spring. The 25-year-old has a solid glove in the outfield and hit .262 (11-for-42) with two homers and six RBI in his first 24 big-league games in 2023 for the Dodgers.

Wed Jul 26 202308:30Jonny DeLuca Likely Going On The IL
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Jonny DeLuca (hamstring) tweaked his hamstring during Tuesday's 8-7 win over the Toronto Blue Jays and will likely need a stint on the injured list with a hamstring strain, according to Juan Toribio of MLB.com. The 25-year-old has been solid with the bat over 24 games this season, slashing .262/.311/.429 with two homers, five runs, six RBI, and a stolen base. He's been playing almost exclusively against left-handers, and the injury will open up playing time for newly acquired Kike Hernandez, who owns a career .811 OPS off of southpaws.

Wed Jun 7 202316:20Jonny DeLuca Making Big-League Debut Wednesday
Los Angeles Dodgers rookie outfielder Jonny DeLuca is making his major-league debut on Wednesday, starting in center field and batting eighth in the lineup against Cincinnati Reds left-hander Brandon Williamson. The Dodgers' No. 20 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, DeLuca got the call to the big leagues after hitting a combined .292 (57-for-195) with 11 doubles, a triple, 14 homers, 37 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 41 runs scored in 49 games with Double-A Tulsa (32 games) and Triple-A Oklahoma City (17 games). For as long as the 24-year-old right-handed hitter is up with LA, he's likely to mostly face lefties like on Wednesday. The former switch-hitter is strictly hitting from the right side now and has impressive raw power as well as plus speed, making him worth stashing in dynasty/keeper leagues.

Sun Jun 4 202309:07Trayce Thompson Heading To IL, Jonny DeLuca Coming Up
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Trayce Thompson (oblique) is set to go on the injured list on Sunday with a strained oblique. The 32-year-old suffered the setback on a check swing in Saturday's tilt with the New York Yankees. Thompson hasn't offered much this year, hitting .155 (11-for-71) with 12 runs scored, 5 homers, and 14 RBI. His absence paves the way for the club's No. 20 prospect Jonny DeLuca to get a call-up to the bigs. The 24-year-old is slashing a strong .292/.378/.574 with 14 big flies, 37 RBI, and 12 stolen bases in the minors this season. DeLuca presents a blend of speed and power which could translate to the major-league level. The Dodgers are short on right-handed options in their outfield with Mookie Betts getting a share of infield action. DeLuca should be able to form some sort of platoon with James Outman, Jason Heyward, and David Peralta. DeLuca may not be an immediate waiver add in redraft leagues, but he's worth watching.

Wed May 17 202312:21Jonny DeLuca Promoted To Triple-A
The Los Angeles Dodgers promoted outfield prospect Jonny DeLuca from Double-A Tulsa to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday. In a corresponding move, Oklahoma City released outfielder Ben DeLuzio to clear a roster spot. DeLuca, the team's No. 20 prospect per MLB Pipeline, earned the promotion by hitting .279 (34-for-122) with eight doubles, 10 home runs, 18 RBI, nine stolen bases, 29 runs scored and a team-leading .971 OPS at Tulsa in 32 games played. The 24-year-old outfielder probably won't be a candidate to reach the majors until next year, but he's certainly one to keep an eye on in dynasty/keeper formats right now. The former switch-hitter has developed nice raw power with the bat, and he also has plus speed that will play in fantasy eventually.
