Romero signed a minor league deal with the Pirates on Monday, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Bill Brink reports.
The contract comes with an invite to major league spring training. As a 27-year-old, Romero hit just eight home runs with a .265 average and zero steals in 123 games at Triple-A with the Twins last season, so he no longer qualifies as a prospect. Look for Romero to offer organizational depth at third base for the Pirates in 2015.
