Harrington announced his retirement from professional basketball Wednesday, ESPN.com reports.
The 35-year-old, who was selected out of high school by the Pacers in the 1998 NBA Draft, spent 16 seasons in the league. Harrington ends his career with averages of 13.5 points and 5.6 rebounds over stints with the Pacers, Hawks, Warriors, Knicks, Nuggets, Magic, and Wizards. Despite retiring, Harrington will continue to remain around the NBA as an assistant on the Nuggets' coaching staff.

Harrington will sign a one-year deal to play for Fujian SBS Xunxing Sturgeons of the Chinese Basketball Association this season, SI.com reports.
Harrington averaged just 6.6 points in 34 games played for the Wizards last season. The 34-year-old received minimal free agent interest from NBA teams this summer, so he'll follow the path of many aging American players and play in the CBA this year. Should he impress, it's possible Harrington could land with a playoff-bound NBA team following the Chinese season; however, his balky knee could prevent such a scenario.
Wed Jul 9 201412:53Al Harrington recovered from shoulder surgery
Al Harrington has recovered from left shoulder surgery and hopes to re-sign with the Wizards as a free agent.
Harrington's knees were the biggest issue last season, limiting him to 34 games played, but he's not ready to end his playing career. "I'm just trying to preserve my joints. My new thing is to try to get as light as I can and see what happens," said Harrington, who lost 10 pounds this summer on a vegan diet. While he waits for the free agent market to settle down, Harrington has been volunteering as an assistant coach with the Wizards' Summer League team.

Thu Jun 12 201409:17Al Harrington could return to Wizards as UFA
Al Harrington is uncertain as to where he'll end up in free agency, but thinks he could return to the Washington Wizards.
The salary cap is expected to rise from $71.75 million to $75 million this summer, so the Wizards may have room to bring back the 34-year-old unrestricted free agent at the veteran's minimum. Harrington missed 47 games during the 2013-14 season due to a knee injury, but was still a core part of the Wizards' locker room and seems to have interest in returning. "I think the core that we have here is great and as many guys as he can keep, I think the better," Harrington said. "That's a great locker room in there. I'm really going to take some time off and then some time throughout the summer, I'll start evaluating if I want to play or maybe do something else."

Sun May 11 201423:12Al Harrington's playoff-best isn't enough
Al Harrington logged a playoff-high 23 minutes in Sunday's loss, contributing 11 points, six rebounds and three steals off Washington's bench.
In the Wizards' previous eight postseason games, Harrington had scored a combined two points in 16 minutes. To the Wizards' chagrin, even big games from Harrington and Drew Gooden (10 points, three blocks) weren't enough to even the series at two games apiece.

Mon Apr 14 201421:53Al Harrington scores season-high 16 points
Al Harrington scored a season-high 16 points vs. the Heat on Monday with four boards, one assist, one steal and four 3-pointers in 18 minutes.
He scored 12 points on Saturday and has played at least 17 minutes in three consecutive games. Harrington looks healthy for the first time since November, but the team still is likely smart enough to keep his minutes down considering how frequently his knees haven't held up.

Sat Mar 22 201404:15Al Harrington scores 15 points vs. Lakers
Al Harrington matched his season high of 15 points in 26 minutes against the Lakers on Friday, adding three boards and two 3-pointers.
His 26 minutes were also a season high and the Wizards were happy to adapt to the up-tempo style of the Lakers in tonight's win. Harrington's knees aren't exactly capable of this type of workload on a consistent basis, so it would be a mild surprise to see him do it again even in a favorable matchup against his former team in Denver on Sunday.

Thu Mar 6 201411:55Al Harrington plays 21 minutes for Wiz Weds
Al Harrington recorded eight points, four rebounds, and two assists in Wednesday's win over the Jazz.
The short-handed Wizards got the game they needed from Harrington Wednesday night and he even added his first dunk in over four months. "We had the AARP group in there," Coach Randy Wittman said of his lineup that included Harrington, Andre Miller, and Drew Gooden. While Harrington may qualify for the NBA's version of the Blue-plate special, his fantasy value is currently limited to the deepest of leagues.

Fri Feb 28 201400:00Al Harrington scores eight points off bench
Al Harrington played 16 minutes off the bench on Thursday with eight points, one board, one assist and one steal.
The Wizards needed some help at power forward, but the frail Harrington is not going to be the answer to play more than 20 minutes. Back in November, he played three consecutive games of at least 19 minutes, then he went down on Nov. 12 due to some wear-and-tear issues. He's only an option in very deep leagues because the Wizards seem to have learned their lessons about Other Al's knee.

Mon Feb 24 201410:31Al Harrington's conditioning still an issue
Al Harrington scored five points and grabbed two rebounds in seven minutes after Nene's knee injury on Sunday, but admitted that his conditioning is a work in progress.
"I thought Al gave us a big lift in the second half," said coach Randy Wittman. "He was panting like a dog out there but we got to continue to get him rounded into shape." Kevin Seraphin and Marcin Gortat stand to gain the most if Nene is forced to miss any games, but Harrington is worth watching for deep league owners in need of 3-pointers.

Sat Feb 22 201422:31Al Harrington scoreless in one minute
Al Harrington returned from a knee injury on Saturday, but played just one minute and failed to score.
Maybe he'll get hot at some point this season, but with Nene playing well and Trevor Booker solid off the bench, there's no reason to own Harrington in most leagues.

Fri Feb 21 201414:41Al Harrington ready to play on Saturday
Al Harrington (knee) said he's ready to play against the Pelicans on Saturday.
He's been out since Nov. 12 due to chronic knee issues and the Wizards are unlikely to get him near his 18.6 minutes per game this season any time soon. Harrington's knee kept him at just 10 games last season and he has no fantasy value right now.

Tue Feb 18 201417:45Al Harrington (knee) practices again Monday
Al Harrington (knee) practiced on Monday and coach Randy Wittman expects him to return to action soon.
Harrington looked good during a scrimmage last week but admitted that his defensive mobility, never a strong suit, is a work in progress. Even at full health he'll play a handful of minutes as a stretch-forward off the bench, a role which isn't conducive to fantasy value.

Thu Feb 6 201417:19Al Harrington (knee) looks good at practice
Al Harrington (knee surgery) returned to practice on Thursday and reportedly looked "spectacular" during a 4-on-4 scrimmage.
The Wizards haven't provided a return date but Harrington is aiming to return after the All-Star break. Given his injury history and limited role off the Wizards' bench (he averaged 7.9 points in seven appearances earlier this season), there's no reason to think he'll hold value in average fantasy leagues.

Mon Jan 6 201415:07Al Harrington says he's playing this year
Al Harrington (knee) said he's "definitely" going to play this year.
He will not set a timetable for his return from knee surgery back on Dec. 9. Harrington was expected to miss four weeks and has missed his initial prognosis, which is hardly a surprise considering how he has been unable to stay healthy. Fantasy owners can ignore him in all leagues.

Fri Jan 3 201418:41Al Harrington is back to working out
Al Harrington (knee) is back to working out with the team.
He had surgery on Dec. 9 and could be getting closer to a return. Harrington's knees will limit his minutes, so there's very little reason to grab him in almost any fantasy league.

Mon Dec 9 201320:06Al Harrington has surgery, out four weeks
Al Harrington had surgery on his right knee on Monday and will miss four weeks.
It's been a slippery slope for Harrington this season with his knee injury. This is the second season in which he's been plagued by knee injuries and his career is getting shorter by the day. Fantasy owners can leave him on the wire in all leagues since the Wizards won't be playing him big minutes once he's back in the lineup.

Sat Dec 7 201316:08Al Harrington (knee) to doctor after setback
Al Harrington had a setback with his sore right knee and he will not play vs. the Nuggets on Monday.
Harrington is headed back to the doctor and nothing about this situations suggests a speedy recovery is on the horizon. "We ramped [Harrington] up here the last couple of days individually," said coach Randy Wittman. "He wanted to really push it again. Today, had some soreness ... Irritation came back real fast." With Kevin Seraphin (knee) and Nene (right foot/Achilles) both very questionable for Monday, we should see plenty of Trevor Booker, Jan Vesely and Chris Singleton alongside Marcin Gortat.

Fri Nov 29 201319:00Wittman a bit more optimistic about Big Al
Coach Randy Wittman is a bit more optimistic about Al Jefferson's (knee) chances of returning next week.
Harrington could return and be productive or he could totally fizzle out and continue along the path to retirement. Regardless, his ceiling is at about 20 minutes per game with bursts of production every so often.

Fri Nov 29 201311:18Al Harrington hopes to return next week
Al Harrington (knee) stated that he hopes to return sometime next week to help the Wizards' fizzling bench production.
The Wizards bench has been very unproductive, and could use Harrington to allow Nene to get some rest during games. However, with regards to fantasy, Harrington isn't much more than a three-point specialist, and is more of a deep league play.
