Thu Jul 9 201515:32Delmon Young: Released By Baltimore
Young was released by the Orioles on Thursday.
Young, who was rumored to be on the trade block, will end up a free agent after a disappointing half-season at the plate. After hitting .302 last season, Young has posted a .270/.389/.339 slash line in 2015. The veteran shouldn't have any trouble finding a new team, as he's much more appealing to bring in as a free agent, as opposed to via trade.
Thu Jul 9 201513:32Delmon Young: Released By Baltimore
The Baltimore Orioles released outfielder Delmon Young on Thursday.
The Baltimore Orioles released outfielder Delmon Young on Thursday. Young was rumored to be on the trade block, but he is hitting only .270 this season and the Orioles were unable to find a team willing to give up an asset for him.
Wed Jul 1 201518:24Young DFA'd by Orioles on Wednesday
Young was DFA'd by the Orioles on Wednesday, Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports.
The move clears a spot for Tyler Wilson, who was recalled from Triple-A on Wednesday. Young was hitting a solid .270 on the season, but he had just eight extra-base hits in 174 at-bats. The veteran outfielder will be subject to waivers and is likely to wind up at Triple-A.
Sun Jun 14 201511:18Young out of lineup Sunday against Yankees
Young is out of the lineup Sunday against the Yankees, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports.
Travis Snider will swap in as the right fielder in place of Young, who will sit for the second time this series. Young's .285 batting average has given him a leg up in maintaining a lineup spot this season over underperfomers such as Travis Snider and Steven Pearce, but he's shown precious little pop in his bat. Just eight of his 45 hits on the season have gone for extra bases.
Fri Jun 12 201515:22Young out of lineup Friday
Young is out of the lineup Friday, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports.
He has started five straight games for the O's, notching five hits and five strikeouts over that span. Young will be displaced in right field by Travis Snider on Friday.
Sun May 31 201522:15Young 3-4 and hit first two home runs of season in Sunday's loss...
Young went 3-for-4 and hit his first two home runs of the season in Sunday's loss to the Rays.
Young hit third in the lineup with Adam Jones out, but he had not gone deep yet this season prior to Sunday's game. He entered the game with an OPS of just .641, well off his career marks. The Orioles designated Alejandro De Aza for assignment, which shows more commitment to getting Young playing time.
Fri May 29 201515:08Young out of lineup for Friday's game against Rays
Young is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Rays, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports.
David Lough and Travis Snider have both been getting more playing time against right-handed pitchers, leaving Young and Steve Pearce with fewer at-bats. This marks Young's third absence from the lineup in the last five games, and he still doesn't have a home run through 112 at-bats this season.
Sun May 24 201512:51Young out of lineup Sunday against Marlins
Young is out of the lineup Sunday against the Marlins, Rich Dubroff of CSN Baltimore reports.
With no designated hitter spot available, the Orioles will opt to use the better outfield defender in David Lough in their lineup during the series finale. Young went 0-for-5 in his lone start in the series Saturday, dropping his season batting average to .280.
Fri May 22 201517:21Young out of lineup Friday against Marlins
Young is out of the lineup Friday against the Marlins.
With the Orioles facing Marlins' right-hander, Henderson Alvarez, Young has been replaced in the lineup by Alejandro De Aza and Travis Snider will take the field in left.
Tue May 19 201514:52Young not in lineup Tuesday against Mariners
Young is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Mariners.
Young will be held out of the starting lineup for the third time in the past five games as the Orioles take on another right-handed pitcher in Taijuan Walker. He's hitting .288 against righties this season, but manager Buck Showalter appears committed to getting Travis Snider regular at bats against righties, so Snider will slot in as the left fielder while Alejandro De Aza will slide over to right.
Sun May 17 201510:30Young back in lineup Sunday against Angels
Young is back in the lineup Sunday against the Angels, batting cleanup and playing right field, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
Young has been out of the lineup for two of the previous three games, but that appears to be just a byproduct of manager Buck Showalter wanting to get a couple of his lefty-hitting outfielders (Travis Snider and David Lough) some additional at-bats. On most nights, Young -- who is batting .280 but has failed to crack a homer this season -- should continue to occupy a spot in the heart of the Orioles' lineup.
Sat May 16 201515:26Young out of lineup Saturday against Anaheim
Young is out of the lineup Saturday against Anaheim.
Young returned to the lineup Friday after sitting out Wednesday and went 0-for-3. Alejandro De Aza will slide over to right field and David Lough will take the field in left.
Wed May 6 201516:03Young not in lineup Wednesday against Mets
Young is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Mets, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
It appears to just be a regular day off for Young as the Orioles play in a National League park and don't have the option to slot him at DH even if he were to get a day off in the field. Alejandro De Aza will slide over to right field while David Lough will get the start in left.

Young batted cleanup for the Orioles on Sunday against the Red Sox and responded by going 3-for-6 with five RBI and three runs scored.
His move to the four-spot was likely due to his favorable splits against left-handed pitching, as Wade Miley got the start for Boston. Young is off to a great start to the season at the plate, hitting .368 with seven RBI through 38 at-bats, and could receive a boost in value if he continues to bat cleanup against lefties.
Fri Apr 10 201512:47Young will serve as designated hitter and bat fifth for Friday's...
Young will serve as designated hitter and bat fifth for Friday's game against Mark Buehrle and the Blue Jays.
Young should be a fixture in the lineup against left-handed pitching, as his 2014 reverse platoon splits appear to be an anomaly. He wasn't in the lineup for any of Baltimore's first three games, even though David Lough (hamstring) is on the disabled list. That doesn't bode well for Young's workload, as Lough's return will add another left-handed bat to Baltimore's outfield mix.
Tue Mar 24 201520:12Young appears set for more at-bats with Orioles than last year
Young appears set for more at-bats with the Orioles than last year, according to MASN Sports.
Young appeared in 83 games last year and had 255 plate appearances. The Orioles used him in stretches, but mostly lined him up against left-handers. It remains to be seen whether the Orioles will actually use him in an expanded role, considering he will battle for at-bats with Steve Pearce, Alejandro De Aza, Travis Snider and an additional backup outfielder.
