Izturis (shoulder) underwent surgery Thursday and is likely to miss the rest of the season, Ben Nicholson-Smith of SportsNet reports.
Izturis, who has been on the 60-day DL since early-May, is expected to miss the entirety of the 2015 campaign, which will likely end his tenure with the Blue Jays. His contract includes a club option for next season, which Toronto is unlikely to exercise considering his injury history.
Sun May 24 201514:31Izturis
Izturis, who is on the 60-day DL with a groin injury, suffered a right shoulder ailment while diving for a groundball Saturday during his rehab assignment at High-A Dunedin, John Lott of the National Post reports.
Izturis said he felt the shoulder pop and required an MRI, with the results yet to become available. The infielder played just 11 games with the Blue Jays last season after undergoing knee surgery, and after the groin issue resulted in him opening 2015 on the DL, it appears he'll have yet another injury to rehab.
Fri May 1 201515:22Izturis (groin) transferred to 60-day DL on Friday
Izturis (groin) was transferred to the 60-day DL on Friday.
There was some hope that Izturis, who suffered a groin strain late in spring training, could return by late April. However, that did not come to fruition, and this move ensures he won't be on the field until June at the earliest. Devon Travis will continue to hold the fort at second base.

Izturis (groin) is not expected to return to game action until late-April, Sportsnet's Shi Davidi reports.
Izturis seems to be several weeks away from returning, but the real question here is whether or not there will be a spot for him on the Major League roster when he's ready. The young Devon Travis has been a more-than-admirable fill-in, hitting .313/.421/.563 during the season's first week.
Sun Apr 5 201518:11Izturis (groin) placed on 15-day DL on Sunday
Izturis (groin) was placed on the 15-day DL on Sunday, John Lott of the National Post reports.
Izturis was shut down last week due to a groin strain, and was fully expected to begin the year on the disabled list. In his stead, Devon Travis will open the season as the Blue Jays' starting second baseman.
Thu Mar 26 201514:52Izturis (groin) will begin season on disabled list
Izturis (groin) will begin the season on the disabled list, Barry Davis of SportsNet reports.
Izturis was shut down earlier in the week with a strained right groin, and manager John Gibbons officially confirmed Thursday that the second baseman will begin the year on the DL. That means Devon Travis, Ryan Goins or Steve Tolleson will likely get the nod at second base. Izturis is without a firm timeline right now, but he doesn't figure to miss extended time beyond the first few weeks of the season.

Izturis (groin) has been shut down for the next 10 days and will be unable to play on Opening Day, John Lott of the National Post reports.
Izturis was in line to be the starting second baseman, but this injury throws a curveball into the whole situation. Devon Travis is a star prospect in the organization and could be thrust into the starting spot right away, or the team could opt to go with some combination of Ryan Goins and Steve Tolleson. Izturis' injury puts his role on the team in jeopardy as well. If the team does choose to go with Travis, Izturis would likely be demoted to the extra infielder spot, a role at 34 he may be more suited to regardless. Izturis' fantasy value should be severely limited due to a lack of consistent at bats.
Fri Mar 20 201514:21Izturis suffered right groin strain Friday
Izturis suffered a right groin strain Friday, Brendan Kennedy of the Toronto Star reports.
Little is known about the injury at this time, but the team will surely provide an update in the near future. With Opening Day just 16 days away, Izturis' status could be in jeopardy, depending upon the severity of the injury. If he's slated to miss an extended period of time, Devon Travis, with whom he's been competing for the second base job in spring training, has a better chance to crack the Opening Day roster.

Izturis will be in the mix for the starting job at second base this spring, the Toronto Star reports.
Defense will be the priority from the keystone, at least to begin the season, as Izturis, Ryan Goins, Ramon Santiago, and Munenori Kawasaki all lack offensive upside. Prospect Devon Travis could take over the job at some point, and while he'll be part of the competition during spring training, he's likely to begin the year at Triple-A Buffalo.
Fri Apr 18 201423:43Jays transfer Maicer Izturis to 60-day DL
Blue Jays transferred Maicer Izturis to the 60-day disabled list.
This was done merely as a procedural move to clear a spot for Juan Francisco on the 40-man roster. Izturis, sidelined with a ligament tear in his left knee, isn't expected to be ready to return until September.

Maicer Izturis is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a ligament tear in his left knee.
It's a tough break for Izturis, who suffered the injury tripping down the dugout steps Sunday. He's expected to receive a second opinion before undergoing surgery. While Izturis was beginning to make his claim on the starting second base job, Ryan Goins should get more of the starts there for now.

Fri Apr 11 201410:37Gibbons not ready to name Izturis 2B starter
Blue Jays manager John Gibbons on Thursday said he's "not ready to say" that Maicer Izturis has usurped Ryan Goins as the team's starter at second base.
Izturis has made four straight starts at second and is batting .385/.429/.423 over 29 plate appearances this season. Goins provides better defense but has just one hit in his first 20 plate appearances. "I'm not ready to say that," Gibbons said. "Izturis gives you some offence and some defense. Goins is a defensive specialist. We think he's going to hit enough. He's off to a slow start but I expect him to improve on that. But right now we're playing the hot hand (Izturis), the guy that's swinging the bat. If we had more guys in the lineup that were swinging it more ... we might go the other way just for the defense."

Thu Apr 10 201400:11Maicer Izturis reaches three times
Maicer Izturis went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored versus the Astros on Wednesday.
Izturis is off to a nice 10-for-22 start at the plate, so the Jays could keep running him out to second base against right-handers, maybe even after Jose Reyes gets back. It does cost them a bit defensively, which is why they inserted Jonathan Diaz at shortstop and moved Ryan Goins back to second in the later innings tonight.
