Mon Aug 17 2015 | 15:10 | Cordier called up from Triple-A New Orleans on Monday |
Cordier was called up from Triple-A New Orleans on Monday, Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post reports. |
The 29-year-old right-hander will take on a relief role with the big club for the first time this season, replacing David Phelps (elbow) on the active roster. Cordier managed a 1.04 ERA in 31 appearances with the Giants' Triple-A Sacramento affiliate to start the season despite walking 25 batters in 34.2 innings, mostly thanks to an 80 percent strand rate and .244 opponents' BABIP. |
Mon Aug 10 2015 | 21:56 | The Marlins signed Cordier to minor-league deal |
The Marlins signed Cordier to a minor-league deal, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. |
Cordier made 31 appearances for the Braves' Triple-A affiliate in Sacramento, and he's already made a pair of scoreless appearances with Triple-A New Orleans in the Miami organization. With a 0.90 ERA across his stops in the minors this year, the 29-year-old could get a look in the Marlins' bullpen this September if they can find room for him on the 40-man roster. |
Sat Aug 1 2015 | 19:46 | Cordier released by Giants on Saturday |
Cordier was released by the Giants on Saturday, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. |
Cordier threw 34.2 innings for the Giants' Triple-A affiliate Sacramento and posted a 1.04 ERA, but control has been a major issue for the 29-year-old in his career, and his 43:25 K:BB ratio with Sacramento did nothing to change that notion. It's unclear where the hard-throwing right-hander might land next. |

Cordier elected free agency, Chris Haft of MLB.com reports. |
The 29-year-old right-hander refused an outright assignment to Triple-A and will instead test his luck on the open market. Cordier struck out 13 but also walked seven in nine innings with the Giants' Sacramento affiliate this season. |

Cordier was activated from the disabled list Sunday and designated for assignment. |
The 29-year-old had just finished up a rehab assignment at Triple-A Sacramento, where he struck out 13 batters over nine innings while allowing two runs. Though he doesn't have much experience at the major-league level, Cordier's fastball easily touches the high-90s and occasionally hits triple digits, which could prompt another team to add him to their 40-man roster. |

Cordier (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A San Jose on Thursday, Joe Ritzo of sjgiants.com reports. |
Cordier could be an option for the big-league bullpen in late April, but it's also quite possible he'll be assigned to Triple-A Fresno. If he's with the Giants, Cordier will likely be used in medium and low-leverage situations. |

Fri Mar 27 2015 | 13:40 | Cordier (forearm) threw off flat ground this week |
Cordier (forearm) threw off flat ground this week, but will start the year on the disabled list, CSN Bay Area reports. |
Cordier has been shut down after experiencing forearm cramps this spring. The fact that he is throwing is a good sign that the injury isn't too serious, but he will start the year on the DL in order to save a spot on the 25-man roster. When healthy, Cordier regularly touches triple digits on the radar gun, but doesn't offer anything else other than an average - at best - slider. |

Cordier made his major league debut in Wednesday's loss to the Rockies, tossing an inning while walking one and striking out one. |
Cordier is an 11-year minor leaguer who got his first taste of major league action Wednesday. He routinely hit 100 MPH on the radar gun, touching 101 MPH a few times. While that is impressive, his 5.06 BB/9 career mark in the minors indicates that he needs to exhibit better control if he ever wants to be a permanent major league pitcher. |

Cordier will be recalled by the Giants on Tuesday. |
Cordier owned a 3.59 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over 52.2 innings in Triple-A this year, and will provide the Giants with bullpen depth down the stretch. |

Giants signed RHP Erik Cordier to a one-year contract. |
Cordier, 27, has a 4.29 ERA over eight minor league seasons. The right-hander reliever made 44 appearances in 2013 at Triple-A Indianapolis (Pirates), posting a 4.58 ERA and 65/28 K/BB ratio over 53 innings of work. The Giants will give him a shot at a bullpen job. |

Wed Mar 14 2012 | 23:42 | Braves option RHP Cordier to minors |
Braves optioned RHP Erik Cordier to Triple-A Gwinnett. |
Cordier allowed two runs (one earned) over 4 1/3 innings this spring while striking out three and walking one. The 26-year-old right-hander had a 5.14 ERA and 65/51 K/BB ratio over 20 starts between Double- and Triple-A last year. There's little chance the 2004 second-round pick makes it as a starter at this point, but a move to the bullpen could give him a shot. |

Wed Jan 19 2011 | 14:30 | Cordier has minor elbow surgery |
Braves prospect right-hander Erik Cordier recently underwent a procedure on his right elbow. |
According to Mark Bowman of MLB.com, Dr. James Andrews cleaned some "debris" from Cordier's right elbow. As a result, he will be a little behind to begin spring training. Cordier, who turns 25 in February, posted a 3.82 ERA over 143 2/3 innings between Double-A Mississippi and Triple-A Gwinnett last season, averaging 7.3 K/9 and 4.8 BB/9. The former second-round pick has mostly been a starting pitcher in the minor leagues, but he probably profiles best as a reliever in the long-term. |

Braves purchased the contract of RHP Erik Cordier and added him to the 40-man roster. |
Cordier has been a starter throughout his minor league career but better profiles as a potential setup man. He can reach the mid-90s with his fastball but has a 4.8 BB/9 rate during his minor league career. |
