Sat May 22 202123:43Giants' Kazmir, 37, fine 4 innings in 1st MLB game since '16
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Late Friday night, Gabe Kapler called old teammate Scott Kazmir with wonderful news: The veteran left-hander was needed in San Francisco to start the next day. The Giants called up the 37-year-old Kazmir from Triple-A Sacramento to make his first big league appearance since 2016, when he went 10-6 with a 4.56 ERA over 26 starts for the Los Angeles Dodgers, who just so happened to be his opponent Saturday at Oracle Park. “It was actually pretty gratifying to be able to deliver that to him and actually through the phone I could tell that he was smiling,” said Kapler, who played with Kazmir for Tampa Bay in 2009. Kazmir quickly surrendered a two-out splash homer to Max Muncy in the first inning — the ball into McCovey Cove beyond right field traveled an estimated 423 feet with an exit velocity of 108.2 mph. Kazmir pitched four innings, allowing only one run and two hits. He walked none, struck out two and exited after 55 pitches against the World Series champions in a... [More]

But Muncy was the only batter for the World Series champions to reach base in the first three innings against Kazmir, who struck out two in that span. “It’s been a... [More]

Mon Nov 16 202012:21Schilling, Clemens, Bonds leading candidates on Hall ballot
NEW YORK (AP) — Curt Schilling, Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds are the leading candidates returning to baseball’s Hall of Fame ballot in a year without any favorites among the new names. Schilling was third behind Derek Jeter and Larry Walker with 278 of 397 votes last year, finishing at 70% and 20 votes shy in balloting by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Clemens had 242 votes for 61% and Bonds 241 for 60.7%, both well short of the 75% needed, which was 298 votes last year. Both were overwhelming favorites before suspicions of steroids use. Clemens has denied using performance-enhancing drugs, and Bonds says he never knowingly took performance-enhancing drugs. All three will be making their ninth appearance on the BBWAA ballot this year, one short of the limit. Omar Vizquel was next in last year's voting with 209 ballots for 52.6%. Pitchers Barry Zito, Tim Hudson, Mark Buehrle and A.J. Burnett, and outfielder Torii Hunter are among the top newcomers on the ballot announced... [More]

Hudson (8-9) pitched just 2.1 innings Thursday, allowing three runs on three hits and a pair of walks against the Dodgers.
The 40-year-old was expected to be on a short leash, and indeed that was the case, as he ended up throwing just 45 pitches. Considering the severe decline Hudson's gone through this year -- including his worst full-season ERA and WHIP since 2006 -- as well as the fact that his contract is up, this might well have been the final game of his MLB career.

Hudson is expected to have a short leash in Thursday's start against the Dodgers, Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area reports.
Hudson didn't make it out of the second inning in his last out for performance-related reasons, but it sounds like manager Bruce Bochy is just giving the 40-year-old a break in what seems likely to be his final start of 2015. Based on this news, Hudson should be avoided in daily formats due to his limited upside, coupled with the fact that the Dodgers still have something to play for.
