F Martell Webster (hip) and G Alan Anderson (ankle) missed the Wizards' season opener Wednesday.

Webster's strained right hip kept him out of Friday's preseason loss to the Wizards.

Webster has yet to make his preseason debut after suffering the hip injury earlier in training camp, and there appears to be some legitimate concern about the injury. Though he was able to log some non-contact work in Thursday's practice, Webster noted that he's still experiencing "significant pain" around the affected area, according to CSN Washington's J. Michael. While the ailment doesn't figure to result in Webster missing extensive regular-season action just yet, the Wizards are worried that the swingman's injury may linger over a long period of time, which could hinder his overall effectiveness when he's on the court.

Webster is dealing with what Randy Wittman called a "strained hip," and the veteran will sit out Tuesday's exhibition opener. While the issue is minor, it's not overly encouraging for Webster, who dropped 20 points this offseason in an effort to relieve pressure from his joints and surgically repaired back.

Webster underwent the third back surgery of his career and was limited to 32 games last season. A dynamite three-point shooter prior to the latest surgery, Webster has completely transformed his habits in order to make an impact this season. At his peak with the Wizards, Webster was primarily a three-point specialist with a positive impact in the free-throw category. The loss of Paul Pierce and early-season uncertainty of Jared Dudley provides Webster the opportunity earn rotation minutes, especially as a stretch-four. He just needs to prove he can remain healthy.

Webster managed only 3.3 points (26% FG, 23% 3Pt, 75% FT), 1.4 rebounds, 0.5 assists, and 0.2 steals in 11 minutes per game during 32 regular season games in 2014-15.

Webster missed the first two months of the season recovering from surgery after suffering a herniated disk in his lower back. In 2012-13 and 2013-14 he held a prominent role with the Wizards, playing 29 and 28 minutes per game respectively. However, the addition of veteran Paul Pierce and breakout year for sophomore Otto Porter helped spelled the end of Webster's place in the regular rotation. He appeared in just one postseason game, playing four minutes in the team's series-clinching blowout win versus the Raptors. Webster is on the books for a combined $11.4 million over the next two seasons.

Webster scored six points (1-6 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 4-6 FT) with six rebounds, one assist and two steals in 28 minutes during Wednesday's loss to the Pacers.

Webster saw added playing time due to Bradley Beal leaving the game with a right ankle sprain. Should Beal miss time, Webster and Rasual Butler will pick up his minutes, but both are only options in deep leagues.

Webster (knee) is available for Wednesday's game at Phoenix.

After colliding knees with the Lakers' Jeremy Lin on Tuesday, Webster left the court and didn't return. It's uncertain if he'll actually take the court Wednesday, as he received two DNPs in five games leading up to Tuesday's contest.

Rasual Butler and Otto Porter Jr. are taking up the majority of the minutes off the bench at small forward, which has taken Webster's role away from him in Washington.

The Wizards were down big to the Mavericks in this one, so Webster wasn't put in the greatest situation to start his season. Over time, expect him to gain a larger role in the offense off the bench. In 78 games for the Wizards last season, Webster averaged 9.7 points, 1.2 assists and 2.8 rebounds. His next chance to see game action is Friday versus the Bulls.

Because his return during the long road trip was qualified as "possible", there still isn't a ton of clarity as to when he'll return. Even when he does return, there's no guarantee that he'll contribute enough to be a viable fantasy option.

Webster did seem to shake it off and we probably wouldn't even mention it if not for Paul Millsap missing extended time earlier this season for his knee contusion on a similar-looking injury. Webster should be good to go for Friday vs. the Lakers.
