Luna, who turns 32 in February, batted .283/.350/.449 with 14 home runs, 58 RBI and a .799 OPS over 468 plate appearances in 2011 with Triple-A Pawtucket in the Red Sox organization. The veteran utility man has only appeared in 27 major league games since 2008, so he's a longshot to win a roster spot during spring training.

Luna batted .138 with two homers and four RBI in 29 at-bats with the Marlins this season and .294 with 16 homers and 71 RBI for Triple-A New Orleans. He had a nice year in the minors, but turns 31 in February and isn't worthy of a spot on the 40-man.

Luna will take the roster spot vacated by Thursday afternoon's Jorge Cantu trade. The 30-year-old Luna hasn't appeared in a major league game since 2008 but he's posted a respectable .845 OPS, 16 homers and 71 RBI in 354 at-bats on the Triple-A level this season. Not bad.
