Lucas (hamstring) has missed both of the Heat's preseason games.
It's not clear if Lucas will be ready to go when the Heat take the court for their third exhibition tilt Monday against the Spurs. Lucas is battling for a deep bench role for the Heat during training camp.
Sun Oct 4 201517:03Lucas will miss Sunday night's preseason opener against Hornets
Lucas will miss Sunday night's preseason opener against the Hornets, the Heat's official Twitter reports.
Lucas will be sidelined with a tight hamstring. The 32-year-old is looking to find a spot on a Heat's roster that is full of point guard depth, including the likes of Mario Chalmers and Goran Dragic. The injury certainly won't help Lucas's chances, although it shouldn't sideline him for an extended period.
Thu Sep 17 201516:46Lucas will attend team's training camp on non-guaranteed deal
Lucas, who has been working out with the Heat, will attend the team's training camp on a non-guaranteed deal, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
The 32-year-old veteran might be viewed as a long-shot to make the official roster heading into opening night of the regular season, but with the Heat looking to add depth at the guard position he may have a shot. In 21 games with the Pistons during the 2014-15 season he averaged 4.7 points, 0.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 0.4 steals, and 13 minutes per game.

Lucas saw time in 21 games this season after joining the Pistons in February.
Lucas drew some interest from NBA teams during the offseason, but rather than signing an unguaranteed deal, he opted to play China. Once the Chinese season concluded, Lucas returned to the States and signed a 10-day deal with the Pistons, who had just lost Brandon Jennings to a torn Achilles. The former Oklahoma State standout would sign a second 10-day deal before signing with the team for the rest of the season on Feb. 20. Lucas' minutes were sporadic, but he emerged as the primary backup to Reggie Jackson over the final month of the season with Spencer Dinwiddie sidelined due to an ankle injury. Over his last eight games, Lucas averaged 4.4 points and 2.6 assists while shooting just 34.9 percent from the floor. A career journeyman, Lucas will enter the offseason looking to catch on with a team and secure a guaranteed contract. If the 32-year-old is unable to do so, he could again look to play overseas.

Lucas should see a decent amount of minutes Wednesday against the Hornets with Spencer Dinwiddie (ankle) out and Reggie Jackson (illness) is expected to be limited.
Lucas played 22 minutes Tuesday after Dinwiddie left the game with a sprained ankle, and it's possible Lucas could play just as much, or more, minutes Wednesday against the Hornets.

Lucas had 15 points (7-11 FG, 1-3 3Pt), three assists, two steals, one rebound and two turnovers in 22 minutes off the bench against Atlanta.
Lucas did a nice job in relief of Reggie Jackson, who played just 22 minutes from the starting point guard position. Lucas' minutes were also likely increased because of an ankle sprain suffered by Spencer Dinwiddie after playing just four minutes. If Dinwiddie misses time it could be Lucas who reaps all of the benefits.
Sat Feb 28 201512:50Lucas logged 17 minutes off bench against Knicks on Friday
Lucas logged 17 minutes off the bench against the Knicks on Friday. He compiled four points and five assists during his short time on the court.
Lucas was recently signed on for the rest of the season to provide backup minutes at point guard while the Pistons strive for a spot in the playoffs. Fellow point guard Reggie Jackson will see the lion's share of minutes as the starter while Lucas splits time in reserve with rookie Spencer Dinwiddie.
Wed Feb 25 201515:46Lucas signed with Pistons for remainder of season
Lucas signed with the Pistons for the remainder of the season.
Lucas will remain with the Pistons for the remainder of the season as they continue to gun for one of the final playoff spots in the East. Lucas had played double-digit minutes in six straight games earlier in the month, but with the recent acquisition of Reggie Jackson, his playing time figures to sharply decline. Jackson and rookie Spencer Dinwiddie will handle most of the point guard duties going forward, as was the case Tuesday against Cleveland when Lucas saw only four minutes off the bench.

Lucas will likely be signed for the rest of the season when his current 10-day contract expires, Keith Langlois of Pistons.com reports.
The news isn't all good for Lucas, as Spencer Dinwiddie is slated to start Friday's game against the Bulls. Reggie Jackson, who will serve as the Pistons' new starting point guard, should be available for Sunday's game against Washington. Lucas may split minutes with Dinwiddie on Friday, but his rest-of-season outlook isn't promising.

Lucas scored nine points (4-6 FG, 1-1 3Pt) with six assists and a steal in just 12 minutes off the bench Wednesday.
The veteran guard is doing his best to prove that he can be trusted to back up DJ Augustin for the rest of the season, but even if the Pistons do decide to sign him for the rest of the season, it would take an Augustin injury for Lucas to have any real fantasy value.
Wed Feb 11 201520:23Lucas will sign second 10-day contract with Pistons on Thursday
Lucas will sign a second 10-day contract with the Pistons on Thursday, the Pistons' official site reports.
Since joining the Pistons on Feb. 1, Lucas has logged time in all six games, averaging four points (on 36 percent shooting), 3.8 assists, and 0.8 three-pointers in 13 minutes. If he continues to spell D.J. Augustin effectively in Brandon Jennings' (Achilles) absence, Lucas could remain with the team for the rest of the season.
Fri Feb 6 201514:19Lucas expected to sign second 10-day contract with Pistons
Lucas is expected to sign a second 10-day contract with the Pistons, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Lucas still has roughly four days left on his first 10-day contract, so it seems that he'll be the backup point guard in Detroit for another couple of weeks. The Pistons are in dire need of point guard depth after the season-ending injury to Brandon Jennings (Achilles), so it's entirely possible that Lucas is eventually signed on for the rest of the season. Although it's important to realize that he'll play second fiddle to starter D.J. Augustin this season, as the veteran has only played a total of 22 minutes over his first two games with Detroit.
Sun Feb 1 201515:26Lucas will sign 10-day contract with Pistons
Lucas will sign a 10-day contract with the Pistons, Marc Stein of ESPN reports.
The Pistons are in desperate need of some depth at point guard and Lucas will be able to provide just that. At 31-years old, the veteran still has to prove his worth during this stint in Detroit before the Pistons decide whether or not to lock him up for the rest of the season.

Lucas will sign a deal with a team in China after pulling out of a scheduled workout with the Lakers, ESPN's Marc Stein reports.
This will likely mean the end of Lucas's NBA career, given that he's already 31, and couldn't make the Wizards' roster after training camp.
Tue Oct 21 201413:27Lucas has officially signed with Wizards
Lucas has officially signed with the Wizards, Sportando reports.
Lucas will presumably step in and fill the 15th roster spot with the regular season set to begin next week. In six NBA seasons, the former Oklahoma State star has spent time with Houston, Chicago, Toronto and Utah. He appeared in 42 games for the Jazz last season, averaging 3.8 points and 1.0 assists in just over 14 minutes. At a glance, Lucas will likely slide in as the third or fourth point guard behind John Wall and Andre Miller.
Tue Oct 21 201409:17Lucas nearing deal with Wizards
Lucas is nearing a deal with the Wizards, ESPN's Marc Stein reports.
With Bradley Beal expected to miss six weeks due to a wrist injury, the Wizards are seeking veteran depth in the backcourt. Lucas bounced around in a couple of trades this offseason before the Celtics waived him in late September.
Sun Sep 28 201417:35Lucas waived by Celtics on Sunday
Lucas was waived by the Celtics on Sunday, Marc Stein of ESPN reports.
Lucas has been moved multiple times this offseason but spent the majority of last year planted on Utah's bench. With this news, he'll become a free agent looking to find a team that will take him on as an extra option off the bench.
Tue Jul 22 201419:08John Lucas off to Cleveland for now
John Lucas was traded to the Cavs on Tuesday.
He has a non-guaranteed deal and the Cavs just did this to set up another possible move. Lucas had some interest from the Bulls before this deal, and he's still likely to not wind up with the Cavs this upcoming season.

Sat Jul 19 201412:31Bulls have interest in John Lucas III
The Bulls have interest in acquiring John Lucas III.
He's a favorite of coach Tom Thibodeau and it would likely be at the veteran minimum. Lucas started for the Jazz to start the season while Trey Burke dealt with a hand injury in 2013-14, but he didn't play well. He'd just be insurance for Derrick Rose.

Sun Jun 29 201419:22Jazz want John Lucas III to mentor young PGs
The Jazz would like to retain free agent PG John Lucas III as a mentor for Trey Burke and Dante Exum.
Lucas is slated to earn $1.6 million next season but his deal is fully unguaranteed, so the Jazz have the option to let him enter free agency or keep him on a reasonable salary. It was reported in mid-June that they were likely to bring him back, which makes sense given their apparent and logical desire for a veteran guard on the roster.
